Kelleytoons
I recently read an article about car dealerships, about how they have basically used their money to have the laws either changed or kept in place so that no real fair practices can be allowed. There's no other industry in the world that operates in such an unscrupulous manner, and it doesn't surprise me that folks who make a living selling cars there are so tainted themselves -- it's hard to work in a criminal environment and not become one. I realize that some folks think "well, business is business" but we would not stand for these kinds of things anywhere else. It's truly revolting to consider what goes on there, but it's also almost impossible to change given the money that changes hands to politicians for this. I think about car salesmen the same way I feel about drug dealers -- they might be very nice people outside of what they actually do, but I wouldn't want my sister to marry one. wab

While my grandfather ran a tight ship, my uncle was a shady bastard.....and some of the sales guys they hired.... no scruples... I think you also need to keep you eyes on plumbers, AC guys, electricians. C-MaxSea and ptjones
Adrian_L
When you sell a car, do you lure people in with low prices but then refuse to sell at that price, saying you added $2000 in improvements that actually only cost you $100? I pay the price on the price tag or I walk out. For my new C-max. everything was included on the window sticker except for a $200 freight charge or tax or something. My memory is a bit fuzzy---but it is basically something that all Canadian dealerships do not have to put on the sticker. It was annoying but it wasn't a deal-breaker on a $30,000 purchase. I saved $3000-4000 at the end of the day, after shopping around at ALL the Ford dealerships in a 50 mile radius. Dealers get away with stuff because consumers let them get away with stuff. Go in there all-business, refuse the BS hot chocolate and doughnuts and you'll be fine. Edited November 5, 2015 by Adrian_L

Make a deal by email, contacting the various dealers in the area and, only after you have agreed on a deal, go in the dealership to sign the papers and pick up the car. ptjones
kevbot13
OP here, I found my car! Best part is I paid all of $3 less than the price which was quoted to me over email...I was simply amazed at their integrity throughout the whole process (after my previous dealer experience). As a super sweet bonus, they were also able to beat my current insurance payments by over $100/month all while keeping/beating the same coverage I had...(They had an Allstate office inside the dealership). The only thing, and it's a tiny one, that could've set me off was how hard they tried pushing their aftermarket warranty. After turning them down on that they accepted that I was there to buy the car and only the car so they didn't offer me any other packages. My guess is that's how they make the majority of their profit. KBB suggested retail price was $15,300 and I got out the door for $14,375 for everything (tag/titles, taxes, doc fees, state inspection, etc) for a car in excellent condition. The car is loaded with everything except the panorama roof so you can consider me a happy guy. Autocheck indicated no accidents, dealer serviced only, private owner (not a rental) and oh yeah, brand new tires just thrown on. For anyone looking at another car in the DMV area be sure to check out Fitzgerald Hyundai/Subaru. No absurd freight fees or "prep" fees, just quality service that you usually don't get from a dealer. ptjones and markd
