djc
No confirmation from principals, but report is that Ford will collaborate with Google to build self-driving cars. Presumably basic car would be a Ford design, with added Google software and electronics. _Might_ be a Focus or Cmax body. http://www.reuters.com/article/us-ford-autonomous-google-idUSKBN0U50BF20151222

djc
I wish they made a car that made the loan payments for me. Well, hang on. As long as the car is self-driving, maybe when you are not using it, it can help earn its keep - as an Uber cab and doing Amazon deliveries. Just pay for Uber when you need it. Sort of like living in NYC without the city and/or high prices.
kostby
As reported elsewhere, a big concern with self-driving cars is that THEY ALWAYS obey the pre-programmed rules, such as speed limits and 4-way stops.Human drivers do not! http://www.slate.com/articles/technology/future_tense/2013/10/robocars_do_they_need_speed_limits.single.html obob

Rather odd, how trying to drive properly, legally, and efficiently is often viewed as a bad thing in our society.

When I went to driving class for getting a speeding ticket the police officer teaching the class said something similar, something like you can count on being OK at 5 mph and usually 10. So I have set the cruise to 72 in a 65 so as to not worry about tickets. As I recall, I did get a speeding ticket in Massachusetts for 10 over, 35 in a 25. The ticket that got me into class was something like 42 in a 30. It probably helps not getting tickets being in a C-Max and american built utility car, verses a sports car. I'm all for taking these idiots out of the equation by giving them cars that are obviously smarter than they are behind the wheel.
