2016 cmax water leak

What side of the car is the leak on?  Do you smell washer fluid?

The rear washer hose is routed along the right (passenger) side above the rear side glass with a loop that drops down near the back of the right side vent in the hatch area.  The loop has a fitting to connect / disconnect the hose from the front of the car to the hose to the rear wiper.

I seem to recall someone had a leak in the rear washer system.  I can't recall what the outcome was though.

It's definitely not washer fluid, it's water from steady rain. When the car is parked on the street and angled toward the passenger side, the water leaks in through the right hand side battery vent opening an pools up on the interior plastic panel. Very disappointing, since it's only two months old. I hope the dealer can figure it out. I'm not filling out my survey until it's resolved. If it weren't for that vent I wouldn't have noticed it.

Good luck Cmax16. My 2015 had body panel alignment problems and a leak that I could hear when driving, coming in somewhere at the front under trim. Ford called out an engineer (who didn't even look for it). Our case got escalated up to the executive office and we received word that Ford will be sending us a buy back offer. Feel free to message me if you can't get anywhere with your dealer and I can give you some pointers on how to navigate through your interactions with Ford.

I found this article I found very interesting.

This is a completely different part of the car, and likely (as nsteblay suggests) it is simply a misaligned rubber seal.  Why would you immediately rush to judgement and start talking about lemon law stuff?

Let's see if we can find the leaky shingle before we take a bulldozer to the house, OK pal?

update:   The Ford dealer found the problem.   A seam on the right side, under the hatch, was where the water was getting in.   They sent a picture to Ford and they said that it appears as if the factory didn't put a gasket in that should have been there.  So off to the body shop to get it fixed and repainted.  I'm so angry about this.   I've been a Ford guy all my adult life, and I halfway would've expected this in the 80's, but it's completely inexcusable now.   Yes they are fixing it, but now I'm wondering what else they didn't do.   $32,000, and I'm having bodywork redone with 1500 miles on it.   I'm sure ours isn't the only car either.   I still need to fill out the owner survey, and it's not going to be nice, nor will I recommend anyone buy a Ford.   This car is too far into its product lifecycle to have this kind of problem.   At this point I'd probably just get my money back if that we'rean option, which it won't be.   So all you Cmax owners out there, you might want to examine your body seams, because you might have the same isues.

Sorry to hear about the problem but glad they found it.

Do you have a pic you could post?   Not exactly sure where you are talking about.  Thx

"So off to the body shop to get it fixed and repainted."

Repainting because of a missing gasket???

I hate to add fuel to your fire BUT.

Several years ago we bought an SUV from an unscrupulous dealer.

The first time I washed it I found overspray and a misaligned gasket.

I was young and naive so I let the stealer talk me into letting his body shop "FIX" it.

I suggest you have "your" dealer STOP and you need to seek a second opinion from a reputable body shop!

if the seal is between body panels....  IE  it wasn't sealed properly when welding at the factory prior to paint.  then yes  the car will need to be repainted.

and its  one of the roof seams.  then  yeah in all likely hood the entire car will need to be repainted.  since by the time they try to blend the roof with the rest of the panels  you end up with most of the car getting repainted.

Document the amount o time the car is out of service.  this is one main aspect of lemon law.  if the car is out of service for more than X number of days  your state lemon law may force a buyback

Upon return of the car  ask to take the car into a lighted paint booth.  this way you can do a thorough inspection. with good consistent light all the way around.

you will be looking for paint lines on body parts and trim that were not removed and replaced.    also look for overspray on windows where they did a bad job taping up....look for any sanding marks, orange peel, ect...

A good body shop will remove trim and you may end up with a better paint job than the factory.   If its a quality repair,  I'd have no qualms,  but I'd ask the dealership for some money back...  It was a brand new car...  this is a pretty major fck up...

  • 2 weeks later...

On day 18, without my cmax now. The body shop has claimed they found multiple places that it was leaking and has sealed them up. Some were under the black trim strip on the roof, under the hinge on the rear hatch, and a seam below that on the right side. Just waiting on the body shop to return it to my dealer.

  • 1 month later...

We got the car back about a month ago, so far so good, it looks like they got it sealed up, as I have not noticed any leaks.   The problem was there was no seam sealer on the passenger side along the hatch area and also on the roof under the moulding.   They had to seal almost the entire seam on the passenger side and repaint that area.

I'm very disappointed and complained to the dealer about it, feeling that Ford should do something to make this right.  I'd like to have an extended warranty, so I don't have to be concerned about other potential quality issues that I can't see, but that was denied.  I've been a loyal Ford owner for 32 years now, but this has changed my view of the brand and of my dealer.   My parents purchased a new 2015 Edge over the winter and i've noticed that it also has several places where the seam is bulged out and will most likely leak, so it will be going back to their dealer for them to fix it too.

I don't know if any Ford rep's monitor this site anymore, but if they do, please take note that Ford NEEDS TO WORK ON QUALITY! .  We get intersted people asking about the car, but after this and being ignored by Ford, i find it difficult to recommend they visit a Ford dealer.
