ptjones
Don't usually go on long trips with bikes on the back, but did this last weekend. It gave me time to figure out MPG penalty with increase of speed. This is what I saw: 35 mph( 0 mpg's), 45 mph(-1 mpg),55 mph(-2 mpg), 60 mph(-3 mpg) and 70 mph(-5-6 mpg). 70 mph is a big hit on the mpg's, Paul obob
SnowStorm
But how did the absolute mileage compare between bikes and no bikes at the same speed - like 65 mph?I agree that 70 seems a big hit - I usually drive 65 in 70 zones (its not illegal). ptjones
ptjones
I would say at 65mph around 41mpg without drafting and 46mpg with. When I got home I was at 46mpg on 500 miles on the tank and around 200 miles going 45-55mph. I was probably drafting half the time on the interstate going 60-75mph and 65mph not drafting. ;) Without the bikes I would have been getting over 50mpg. :) Paul
