Could this haul a washing machine?

Could this fit in the C-Max with rear seats down?

 

Alternatively, I guess I could try hoisting it on a roof rack.

It should fit fine if its on its side.  You have about 28 inches of vertical height to 32 or 33 inches wide.  No way I'd try the roof.

Yes.  That will be front to back in the car where there is over 4 feet.

Well... if it can't, I'll be horn swaggled! 

 

It's 36" between the rear shock towers, long enough for an 8' stair chair rail, and tall enough for a drop leaf table behind the front seats. Just watch for damage on the bottom from the seams and tie-downs.

Update: successfully hauled a washing machine. And this car is damn fun to drive on winding country roads.

 

A few months back I was looking into replacing this car with a Chevy Bolt, but the Bolt is a B class car and it wouldn’t have this level of cargo capacity.

 

And another thing is that when car reviewers review cars, they often overlook important things like the size of the opening for loading bulky things.

Well done with the washing machine!  My wife and I kept thinking "maybe we should buy the Escape", but your experience confirms we made the right choice.

 

Ride quality of the Escape was more truck-like (probably intentional in this day and age of suspension tuning).
