Loud roaring noise from rear tires.

My cmax SE only has 15k miles. On local interstate highway at about 60 mph there's a loud roaring noise from the rear tires. New to hybrids and first cmax. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

FWIW, I have about 38K on my OE Michelins, and the distinct roar from the rear passenger-side tire has disappeared now that the snow tires are on. your noise could be the tires, or something else. 

 

Note that my noisy tire has been on the same corner for its entire life. I chunked the sidewall on the RF tire early in ownership, so the same tire always had the most tread, and went on the front. The entire set's below 3 mm tread left now, so, I can't complain about them making noise. I won't hear it ever again.

I had a chunk of sidewall come off my left rear about a month ago. Had to buy two new tires at 37,000.

When did the sound start and how did it progress.

 

Sound at other speeds ?  Metallic roar or more like a vibration - more understanding of "roar?"  

 

If you look at the tires, is the inside of the tires worn more than the rest of the tires, a sign of cupping.

 

Have you rotated the tires, and if so how often and how recently ?  And how does the sound change with the rotation ?

 

One common problem, cupping, with earlier C-Maxes that produces sound can be found here.

I would think cupping of tires is most likely given your low mileage.

Had new tires put on at 50k miles.  Rear "stock" tires were definitely roaring before they were changed and got worse every day.  Replaced at 3/32 so it was time.  New Michelin Premier A/S are much quieter, almost silent, and have gotten about the same gas mileage.  

 

Try rotating the tires and see if that helps.  Could also be a bearing but 15K miles seems low for a bad bearing.  A tire could get a chunk in though, and the rear seems to transmit road noise into the cabin much more "efficiently".  LOL

Did you have the alignment checked? I do cross rotate my tires to get 80k+ miles on them and cut down on the noise issue. :)

 I did not have the alignment checked.  Maybe a rotate and alignment would have helped.  I did rotate the tires every oil change, so they were well rotated.  New tires are still very quiet so I'm glad I made the change.  Considering the thread depth was 3/32, they were due to be changed.

2018 titanium cmax and noticed, since new, the rear tires roar more than I'm used to, making me think the bearings are going bad prematurely.  Hopefully, just tire noise, but will see if anything changes after I rotate the tires.  Currently @ 8,000 miles and about to do an oil/filter change and tire rotation.

Be sure to cross rear tires to front (with fronts going straight back) as recommended in the CMax owner's manual. I have not had any rear tire wear noise for the last 25K miles on my latest set of tires when following this cross pattern.

 

(With my original OEM Michelin tires, I did not cross rears to front and had tire noise due to uneven wear at 35K miles...despite regular rotations).

I have a 2013 C-Max.  After the first few years, I experienced tire noise.  Starting around the second year, I had the wheels aligned - and each time, they needed it.  So I would suggest, when you get new tires, have the alignment conducted.

I think using 50 psi helps to cut down the wear on the edges of the tires which is where the noise come from, I have 85k mi. on my OEM fronts and I cross rotate about every 5-10K miles. You could have a bad bearing also and I would have it looked at.  If the car hauler chained down the car to much it can damage the bearings.
