Can I charge the 12v battery from the jump start terminals??

The manual talks about jump starting the 12v battery by hooking up jumper cables to the two terminals located under the hood on the drivers side of the engine compartment.  It then talks about charging the battery by hooking up the charger to the battery located at the rear of the car in the cargo area.  This is a very inconvenient location to find and access so I am wondering why you couldn't use the jump start terminals under the hood to charge the battery?   Opinions anyone, please?

Speaking for myself, I would use that technique, as long as it was with no more than a medium-current charger (like 10 Amps or less).

Any more and I'd want to do it with the battery disconnected and out of the vehicle, although that does look like a nuisance.

I can't imagine they'd have put any circuitry between that post and the battery other than just a heavy cable.

I've been using this a few times hooked up to the positive and negative posts underneath the hood to keep the 12V battery "topped off".  So far, it hasn't "smoked" anything!  So far, no dead battery either:

I think I answered your question, unless I am not understanding your question.  From what I understand of your question, I've been doing exactly what you are asking.  I haven't noticed any issues using the battery tender described above.

Yes you can charge the 12v battery from the terminals in the engine compartment.  I have done it.  Those terminals are directly connected to the 12v battery and connecting a charger there is electrically equivilent to connecting the charger directly to the battery terminals.
