Well I drove from Newnan,GA to Williams,AZ to drop off my wife at her Mom's. Then drove to SF to go to a Exhibition and then back, 5020 miles, 103.4 gals of Premium, $199.56 Total and 48.6mpg. average for the trip. Not to bad. :yahoo:  I could have saved atleast $20 if I used Regular but didn't want to give up the better mpg's. :)  Fortunately I almost didn't have any rain( it rained in central CA) and no snow, but the winds where brutal at times with 20-30mph head winds. I had one stretch from ABQ to Tucumcari, NM, about 150 miles I had about 20-30mph tail wind and was averaging almost 60mpg going 65-75mph. After that winds reversed and I was getting in the 30's OUCH! :drop: I still managed somehow to get 51mpg on that tank. If you are interested you can click on my Fuelly icon and see how I did. :)

That is quite the trip and great mileage.

I am going to be driving to Florida.   About 3000 miles total.   I love driving the C-Max but I put on over 20K miles last year.  Part of that was a trip to Atlanta and the mountains.

I also have a Chevy pickup and put on about 2500 miles a year on that.   Because of that and the low price of gas I will be taking the truck.  I would rather drive the C-Max but don't want the miles to climb up too fast.

What does it mean for the miles to go up to fast? The faster the miles go up, the more FUN you are having. LOL   With 128K mi. I must be having alot of FUN! :)

Paul

128K miles is a lot of miles.   So you put on about 50K a year?

It is a fun car to drive and I will miss it on this trip.   I only bought the truck to pull a boat which I have sold now.   Still might sell the truck at some point but it is nice to have it for hauling sometimes.  Also the resale is pretty good on them.  At least until fuel cost goes way up again.

I have had MADMAX for 3.5 yrs. now which works out to 36K mi. a year.  Needless to say I have been having alot of Fun. :)  It is amazing that my average fill up was about $24 and that was with Premium too. It cost alot more to stay in Motels than the gas to travel. ;)  I did get an air mattress and sleeping bag that I was thinking of trying out in the back with seats folded down. It might work for camping out too.  I will try setting it up tonight and take pics. :)

Out west I can't keep it below 75 in AZ and NM. Hurts the MPG, but I just can't handle the slower speeds... Even CA is 70 (so everyone drives 75-80). Desert can be so boring.

I got about 36 on my last trip to Albuquerque from LA. Mostly at around 75. The Energi has a slightly worse final ratio though, and is 200 lbs heavier.

You didn't say what outside temps you had and  I believe the NRG is 300lbs heavier, not a biggy. ;)

For me I find it is less stressful to drive 60-70 mph than 70-80 mph and not so worn-out when I get to where I'm going. IMO :)

I have made the trip to AZ probably  seventy times in the last 11 yrs. so for me it is a video game kind of. With trying to find Semi Drafting Partner going the speed I want to go, then drafting using P&G and coasting when available. If drafting not available use the terrain to P&G and Coast.  The MPG penalty for driving faster than 69 mph is pretty steep, it is better to draft going 75 mph than going by yourself at 69 mph in FE.  Sometimes this game can bug my Wife alot, she's in a hurry to get there, but at most we save a couple of hours on a 28-30 hour trip. :shift:  :drop: :)

Paul,

Lets see.

Heat was over a 100 in the desert.

EPA says that for every 100 lbs extra, it causes 1-2% decrease in MPG.

I don't draft semi trailers. I consider it unsafe.

We have been over this a lot on these forums, but it is illegal to coast in neutral, so I don't do it (but wouldn't at highway speeds anyway).

It is 804 miles to Albuquerque. At 75 vs 65 MPH, it takes 1 hour and 35 minutes less time to drive. I always choose the time over MPG. I find that length of the trip is far more tiring than speed.
