2013 CMax. 73k on the odo, 33k miles on the tires (OEM size 225/50ZR17), tread is down to 4/32 and 5/32. Wear is very even, always run at 38-40psi, never any loss of air, no balance issues. Rotated every 5k miles.  Almost entirely highway miles, 65-75mph. Basically, the car is driven very gently (38-40mpg)

At the dealer for oil change and brake fluid change, and they red-flagged the tires as approaching the time to replace. Treads look great, still showing strong sipes, but shallow, at 4/32 and 5/32.

Does this sound like acceptable wear? I'm wondering if I'm into the "meat" of the tread, and therefore the longest wearing portion of the tread?

Thanks.

I have 74k miles on my OEM Michelin's and I'm getting 5/32 for outside and center, 4.5/32 inside for rears. 4.5/32 for outside and center, 4/32 for inside for front tires. I use and recommend 50 psi for OEM tires to get the best wear.I got 64k on first two sets of Michelin's on my car.  If original tires they are atleast 5 years old and also road surface conditions effect wear.  :)

Thanks. Bought the car used (Ford CPO), had them swap tires(which were new!)/wheels from another used CMax, which is why I ended up with the Contis. They would not have been my first choice.

After researching at TireRack, which agrees for the most part with your observations, I've also learned that these Contis don't go much beyond 35-40k miles, so I guess I'm doing okay. I really didn't know they're considered "performance" all season...sigh...(they're also quite noisy...)

I have gotten 70-75k on two sets of OEM Michelins so far - mostly running upper 40s for psi.  I do go on down to, or near, the wear bars (2/32 I guess it is).  I also rotate at 5k intervals - helps prevent cupping.

What's a good rotation pattern for this car?

OEM Michelins are non-directional, other brands should be verified.  Both front tires straight back, both back tires crossed to the front.

Tried posting link, no joy.  Just Google C-Max Owners Manual or read the one in the glove box.

I cross rotate very time which minimizes cupping caused be direction of rotation. :)

I'm going to do this (and 5 k rotations) as I've got to get past 45k miles with "no unbearable noise." :)

We have experience with several sets of the Conti Extreme Contact DWS 06.  Rotating straight front to back has worked fine.

They have a much higher speed rating than the C-Max.

jmcgliss: So, how many miles are you/did you get out of your "...several sets of ContiExtreme..." tires?

The original tires are very long lasting (70K miles +); remain quiet when worn and are OK on dry surface.  I just keep mine at 38PSI because the C-Max has such a stiff ride.   However, the grip is terrible on wet and light snow with these long last tires.  I would sacrifice a few MPG for better grip.

Are you kidding me? :headscratch:  Our Michelin's are V rated which is faster than the car can go. :)  I disagree with you on being terrible on wet and snow with many miles in those conditions, they may not be the best, but definitely not terrible. IMO with 198k miles on my CMAX. :)

Back again. Only 34k miles on the DWS-06, plenty of tread left, but they are LOUD!!!! , especially in between 30-50mph. One of them is "wah---wah---wah---" like a bearing about to fail. I'm not exactly sure what rotation pattern the dealer used, but for whatever reason, tires are screaming.

Now, another controversial discussion:Maybe I'll start a new thread...

Several different run-flat options. Our 2013 needs a tire mobility kit (expired). We don't want to install a spare tire in the hatch area.

Opinions on the runflats?
