  1. T-Mobile, for example, also offers unlimited data.

If using up a limited data allotment is a concern for some, that's understandable (and unfortunate), but please realize, it's not an issue everyone has.

Then again, if this is accurate...

...perhaps it's up to us, with unlimited plans, to remember what a minority we're in. I'm pretty sure neither Verizon nor AT&T offer that, and it seems a lot more people are with them, so Internet streaming music just isn't a particularly good option for most people.

I am in a dilemma now where I am due to upgrade my iPhone, but I currently have unlimited data with Verizon. If I upgrade to a new phone I lose my unlimited data, and I stream all day while I am at my desk. So I need to either switch to T-Mobile or Sprint, or buy the phone outright. If I buy the phone for full price I won't have to change my current plan.

  2. I need to re-up in the next couple of weeks.

My free 6 months expired Dec. 7th, I'm surprised I haven't heard from them trying to get me to subscribe.

I am due to expire next month and the started sweating me already. They even sent me a "courtesy message" that interrupted my music, to tell me that my subscription is expiring soon. I like the music and sports channels to much to give it up, so I need to work a deal soon.

  3. Hi all, thanks for the replies, my sticker said 47/47/47, I just looked at it.  The car was built and was being delivered to the dealership when Ford announced the payments.  I'll give them a call.

I think you just missed the cut. I bought my C-Max on August 10th and they announced it on the 17th (I think). If you bought after the announcement I don't believe you are eligible, even if your sticker had the 47/47/47. You may want to confirm that. As I said I bought MaxWell about a week before the announcement and I received my check quite a while ago.

  4. Ya you should have got it at the purchase but know it might not have seemed important at the time.  Fore sight isn't always possible.  It would be way more expensive to do it after the fact if possible at all. ;)

I didn't need it because I already had my Garmin. I am planning to upgrade it and just wondered if the in dash system would be a viable alternative. It's not. Thanks everyone for the info.

  5. I did not get navigation with my SE because I have a Garmin Nuvi that works great and I hardly use anyway (I end up using my iPhone with the Apple or Waze nav more). However, I am considering updating my maps on the Nuvi or getting a new one and wondered if it was possible to get the MFT navigation added after the fact. Is it merely a software or firmware upgrade for MFT?

If it's possible I want to compare the cost effectiveness of upgrading my Nuvi to getting my MFT upgraded. I would prefer to do it through the built in display, but either one would work for me.

  6. My experience sounds like yours.  My m.p.g. increased exactly .1 every time I drove the C-Max; short trips to town and back.  I too got up to 43.1 but then it stayed there for four subsequent trips so I thought I was done.  As soon as I emailed friends I thought 43.1 was my "max" on my Max, it moved up to 43.2.  I think we both may have reached the top but might see one or more .1 increase over time.  I am loving this vehicle!!

I think I may have spoken a little too soon. Right after starting this thread I seem to be getting back to normal. I am now up to 3.3 MPG and I seem to be getting slightly better FE  on the freeway and even on short local stop-and-start trips. So I may be approaching my ultimate max, but so far it is still improving. One thing I need to do is monitor tire pressure and see how that helps also.

  7. I went on Sunday. It was a long 2 hours and unfortunately because of their confidentiality precautions I have no idea who the companies are that the survey was done for. They basically separated the survey into discussions about what we like/don't like about our own cars and similar ones and our views on 3 prototypes.

I suppose you could guess what the companies were based upon the body styles of the prototypes, but I have no idea. None of the three prototypes looked like Fords to me based upon the front and rear design features, but I am just guessing really.

Anyway. I can't complain, they paid $125.00 plus free parking at Universal Citywalk.

  8. What tire pressure are you using ? I run higher than the recommended on the door label. Currently, I'm running the tires sidewall spec of 51 PSI. I plan on changing it to 55 @ the 5K mile mark. That's when I'll rotate the tires and verify wear patterns. I've been running 51 psi since it was new. I also changed my oil @ 1500 miles (500 on the ICE) to Royal Purple 0W20 synthetic. These changes will increase your mpg's without hypermile driving techniques.

I haven't been good about checking my tire pressure so I will have to start monitoring that. Also I plan to do an oil change at around 5K so we'll see if that helps as well.

  9. Nope, you're not broken in yet. Matt and I have shown the break-in continues to above 10,000 and even pushing to 15,000. Not sure of your route but simple Pulse and Glide can save you more gas and even simple things like on a down slope, utilizing "jus-enuf" EV to maintain speed will help greatly. When I did > 50% freeway driving, I would average 53MPGs. Keep at it and no, you don't need to go to "super hypermiling" either. Also sometimes tweaking your route a wee bit can help as well.

Typically on my ride in to work I get between 40 and 43 MPG, mostly on the freeway. On the route home I take a canyon route and streets and I typically get between 50 and 54 MPG. As long as I don't do a lot of short local trips with plenty of stops I tend to see the occasional increase. This is the first stretch of days where that hasn't happened.

Also I try to use Ecocruise as much as possible and go just fast enough to stay in EV when traffic permits.

  10. It looks like MaxWell has topped out at 43.1 MPG. Up until recently I picked up about one tenth of a mile on my 60 mile round trip commute. That is with me driving straight to work and straight home, with no short trips in between. Normally it would be one to two days to pick up .10 mile. I have now been at 43.1 for about 4 days and I am guessing I won't gain much more fuel economy without resorting to some super hypermiling. We'll see.

Don't get me wrong. I am pleased to have surpassed 40 MPG, but I had hoped to keep up the progress. I should be at 5,000 miles by the end of this week. So it should be fairly broken in by now.

  11. We bought our cute C-Max hybrid 2 weeks ago, and we are really loving our new beauty.  I'm enjoying this forum, but honestly, I didn't know driving this car would be so "involved."  I have absolutely NO idea what I'm doing when it comes to efficient driving.  The dealer didn't really give us a good tutorial.  Any pointers would be appreciated, but please, baby steps.

    Thanks in advance.

PS:  We live in a metropolitan area, but take weekend road trips frequently.

First, welcome to the club. I have had my C-Max since August and after about a month I think I had gotten the hang of driving for maximum EV. It's just habit now. In fact I find it amusing that I used to be one of those guys that would race around the "slow car" just to beat them to the next light. I am amazed at how many times I end up at the same light, sometimes for miles.

It did take some getting used to, but I actually enjoy driving in a more reserved manner. Plus with my Sync system, Sirius and improved stereo over what I had in my old car I am usually in no rush to get where I am going. Better for my blood pressure.

  12. How does MTE go up in a matter of a few miles? Today I was on my way home and when I checked miles-to-empty it was at 88. I was about 2/3 of the way home on my 30 mile commute. After about another 5 miles I checked again and it said I now had 122 MTE! How does this happen and why? This isn't the first time it happened either.

  13. Hmmmm.....I do drive 60 miles a day with nowhere to charge at work.  So, I'm not sure this would be the best switch.  I don't know.  I really do miss the extra cargo room that the Escape had.  So going smaller might be a bit much for me.

Same here. I have a 60 mile round trip commute and I needed the cargo space. If I could live without the cargo space I would have gone with the Fusion Hybrid. I actually didn't even know about the C-Max when I went to look at the Fusion. Once I saw the trunk I figured I was out of luck. Fortunately I noticed the C-Max in the showroom and started looking at it.

No way I would be able to go plug in with my current commute.

  14. I just realized that I have had MaxWell for exactly 2 months. I bought it on August 10th. In that time I have:

    • Found out about the MPG downgrade less than a week after taking it home
    • Had the headliner recall and the Sync software upgrade
    • Received numerous calls, emails and letters from the dealership thanking me and asking if there is anything I need
    • Attended a dinner for Ford and Mazda owners with the Sync display for a Q & A session
    • Received $550.00 back from Ford
    • Went from around 37.5 MPG to 42.1 MPG lifetime as I am learning how to drive a hybrid
    • Already put over 3,400 miles on it
    • Enjoyed every minute of driving it so far

It seems like I have had it for a lot longer, and so far aside from a few difficulties getting the software upgrade my experience has been positive.

  15. I don't have nav in my car, but I do have a Garmin Nuvi GPS that has worked well for the most part. However, over the last year or so I have never used it because the GPS on my phone works just as well. I use the map app on my iPhone 4 or Waze and they usually get me where I need to go, or close enough. I actually like the Waze app a lot, and it is free.
