  1. The APIM (the computer that runs SYNC) is just a ARM based system that should be able to run any number of operating systems. However, what does Ford gain if they spent the manpower to put their new QNX version on it? They already sold the car, they got their money.

LOL...No disrespect but so is a Raspberry Pi, Pogo Plugs, and countless smart phones ...that doesn't mean much.

  2. hello @dumbcomputers, just received the backup camera which goes in the license plate light bracket along with the correct color led light for the other side light.

i have a question - what did you tap into to power the little LED license plate light in the backup camera unit.. i tapped into the yellow/black wires tied to the now unused license plate light bulb housing on that side.. however the backup camera LED light seems to have 2 modes - bright and dim - when the car is off - after a few seconds it goes into dim state whereas the other side license plate light turns off completely - but the backup camera LED stays in dim state w/o shutting off..

    have you seen this.

    thanks

I tapped the LED to the original license plate light for the left side. I'm not sure if it is really 2 modes...my guess is that since the LED's are so small they are running from the power left in the line. My LED actually broke after a few weeks....I already got a replacement from the seller but I haven't replaced the original on yet.

When I swap it I'm thinking about tapping both LED lights to the same lead to see what happens. I'm hoping that the right side LED will pull enough power to turn both off.

  3. I was reading some articles today about the 2015 ford focus and they mentioned SYNC 2... I have a 2013 c-max and did not know what version of SYNC I have. When I go to the ford website and login, it says I have SYNC Gen2. Is that the same thing as the SYNC 2 with the 8 inch screen they put in the 2015 focus? If the SYNC 2 they are putting in the Ford Focus is different, will I get the update?

I HIGHLY doubt it...my guess is a change in hardware + software.

  4. Fixed the issue with not being able to turn on the camera in any gear (*even when parked). It would have help if I read the directions before I installed it..LOL. On a Cmax you have to set the vehicle selector switch from "0" to "1" and set dip switch 11 on. Once I did that it enabled the steering wheel control to manually enable the camera when not in reverse:D

Lockpick is the bomb!!! Highly Recommended.

  5. 3. Since I will have a free license plate camera - I was thinking about mounting it on the front - I did temporarily wire the video to the front port of the lockpick - it fired up just fine. I am considering using the 2.4ghz video transmitter rigs for the front side so as not to have to punch holes in the firewall. Any suggestions on what to tap for power on the front side?

FYI, you can't use a rear camera on the front. The image will be reversed unless it has a toggle on the camera to switch from mirror view to non-mirror view.

I finally hooked up my Lockpick today and it works GREAT!!!! I'm surprised how quickly the video turns on once put into reverse. My only issue is I am unable to toggle the rear camera on while I'm driving forward...got to call them on this. I read on the Focus forums that this was a firmware issue with newer cars and a firmware update might fix this.

  6. The light/trunk handle piece is held on by 4 small nuts on the inside of the hatch. If you take off the plastic interior panel you can see them behind it.

    Hello everyone,

Just finished hooking up a rear cam to the lockpick in my c-max. As others have mentioned - running the video wire can be tedious - I used an RG6 wire w/ RCA heads as my camera didn't come w/ an RCA video cable.

The major issue w/ my install is that the camera is a license plate model - and it blocks finger access to the hatch release.

I have placed an order for the same camera as @dumbcomputers and also the LED light - I will replace the licence plate rig once it comes in (and seal the hole I drilled behind the license plate!). Btw, @dumbcomputers - any suggestions on how to route the video/powercables from this camera - do you have to take the license light/trunk handle piece off? if so how do you do this..

  7. I was at PepBoys last week and noticed they are now stocking Plasti-Dip spray cans in black, white, also white pearlizer top coat.  Also the new Blaze fluorescent colors in hot pink, blue, green.  Just wanted to share if anyone is considering using this product on their wheels or elsewhere like I have done.  Price might be a bit cheaper than ordering directly from www.dipyourcar.com since there's no shipping charges.  Also saw it at AutoZone, both told me it was a new item they are carrying.  FYI.

Home Depot, Lowes, and some Walmarts also carry it.

  8. Great for a spare tire or replacement for a damaged wheel. I used these for only 2,200 miles before replacing them with aftermarket wheels. $190 each Shipped North America USA ONLY. I currently have 3 left. Comes with center cap but does not come with TPMS sensor or valve stem.

  9. It seems clear to me that this adds a NEW rca input (three actually) which is active when in reverse (the other two can be toggled via steering wheel) and there is no need to cut or splice anything. Simple.

Let me know how you opt to run the cables to the rear camera.

    Thanks

I already ran them. I goes from the hatch through the factory rubber junction, through the headliner down the rear left pillar out to the rear fuse box. From there it goes above the battery then behind the plastic behind the rear  passenger seat behind the driver then under the carpet. From there it goes under the door sills along the left of the car and up to the front. It is completely hidden.

  10. Looking forward to finding Centerline wheels on sale for myself. They currently don't allow looking up wheels by car for the 2012 Focus or C-Max, but we all know that 5x4.25= 5x108. I'm glad to see that people are running 40mm offsets instead of the 50mm stockers. Most all of Centerline FWDs are 42mm.

I'm curious if anyone knows the weight of the Ford factory 17's? Centerline wheels in 17" are typically 15-16lbs depending on the style. The ones I bought for my Focus were 15 lbs. This is a dramatic difference between the stock Focus 17" wheels that are 22-24lbs. In my ZXWs case I wanted to find a wheel/tire combo that would weigh the same as my stock 15's with stock tires- approximately 38 lbs. In the case of the C-Max, I'd like to increase fuel economy by lowering the wheel/tire weight. Assuming Ford still makes heavy cast wheels for durability- then that's at least 6 lbs off each wheel. If I could go down to a 16", that would reduce the possibility of wheel damage due to potholes. The Centerline forged wheels are more sturdy than cast, but any wheel with a low profile tire is subject to damage from big potholes.

Um... and having American made wheels is a must for me, sorry. I like Chinese people, and I wish all the American CEOs who give manufacturing jobs away to them would have to move there and have their job taken by a Chinese in America. Diversity FTW!

    Thoughts on the wheels?

My stock wheel weighed in at 22.6 lbs but the wheel weights were still on it...so let's say 22.5.

  11. According to that video it adds 3 video inputs (beyond the console connection). One cable that is active when in reverse, which you will need to extend to the back of the car, and two others on the lockpick box itself. The two others require some funny stuff with the switch on the steering wheel.

Sounds like it will work for your needs, regardless of what semantics Joseph wants to get into.

Yep. I think it will. It even supports a front camera which you can have automatically turn on if you like which turns off when you exceed 8MPH. I'm not sure why Joseph thinks you need to splice anything to install it. It is 100% plug and play no modifications to the car...it is easily removed if you need to get warrantee work done on the car;) The only thing I won't get is the bending reverse lines when turning in reverse, but I can live without that.
