Can you order a new lower c-max cargo net?
scottwood2 replied to jkaminsky's topic in Accessories & Modifications
I like that. I have problems with items falling out the back sometimes when the hatch is opened. This would help that. My xB had one back there and I loved it. I see it lists only the Energy models. Will this work on the SE? -

I agree with Jaz that Detroit is a whipping boy when it comes to bad news. I go to Detroit a lot and enjoy the many things it offers. Our river walk is awesome. Downtown is nice and growing a lot. Midtown is an area with a wait list for housing and not uncommon for a wait to get into many restaurants. I avoid this area some because of the long waits. Belle isle park is a gem and a lot of money has been put into this recently. We just held a Grand Prix race there. I also really like Dearborn which borders Detroit. When we have guests in town we take them to many places to see the city including Dearborn. The Middle Eastern food in Dearborn is incredible. Many of our guests keep talking about this food long after they leave and want this to be the first stop when they come back. Detroit also has a great zoo and the Detroit Institute of Arts is a world class museum. Don't get me wrong, Detroit has bad areas and it does have a long way to go to catch up to other cities but recent years have brought on a big change for the city. But in general every city has bad areas. You just need to know where to go.- 12 replies

Why doesn't Ford build a Transit Connect hybrid?
scottwood2 replied to jackalopetx's topic in Competing Products
I think they will keep the C-Max or some kind of replacement for it. Ford already said they want a Hybrid that is designed as a hybrid from the ground up and that is being planned. I think the problem with vans and such is that the mileage change is not that great. GM did this on the trucks and had 20% better FE. So the Transit Connect would go from 20 to 24 MPG. 20% sounds good but only 4 mpg does not. It did not work for GM. -

I live close to there and drive by every once in a while. It is sad to see the production go but they are not closing the plant, only changing what is made there. That is a good thing to see. I think the change happens in 2018?- 12 replies

Nice job on the mileage. Welcome. I also have a love for pinball machines. Would love to hear more about your collection.

Interesting. I too would like the heater control change. Sometimes the ECO mode would be nice but most of the time I create my own ECO mode when I drive. Nice thing about me creating my own ECO mode with my driving habits is that I can accelerate instantly when needed without having to worry about hitting a switch.

Congrats and welcome to the fun club. I still love to drive the car as much today as I did 18 months ago when I picked it up.

This seems to be coming on very fast, cars, semi trucks etc. Faster ramp up than I thought. Did not know 1.3 million people die every year in car accidents. Thx for posting

I know there are some posts on this forum about this. I remember someone looking at Focus wheels too. I used Plasti-Dip on my wheels and made them black. I know of at least a few others that has done this.

How much does gas need to cost for hybrids to pay off?
scottwood2 replied to Louder North's topic in Articles, News & Reviews
I don't see much of that around here anymore. More automated signals seem to want to make you stop for every light. I think they do that to bunch up the cars more and to keep traffic speed down. Just a guess on my part. They are also very hard to time sometimes. I go to work early and very light traffic at that time. Some lights will stay green for only 5 or 10 seconds if no one is going through the intersection. I swear that some traffic lights are just staying green long enough to get you close to the intersection and then change to red just in time for you to make a quick stop. :drop: -
The SE might be a little different but when I unlock the doors with my remote the exterior lights come on including the mirror lights so the car surroundings are lit up but I don't think the interior lights come on.

Ford Model E to replace C-Max (reports)
scottwood2 replied to djc's topic in Articles, News & Reviews
I understand the want to push for cross country trips with Tesla but I don't understand why you would want to do so. Here is what I found for Tesla charge time "Tesla supercharging stations charge with up to 120 kW of power, or up to 16 times as fast as public charging stations; they take about 20 minutes to charge to 50%, 40 minutes to charge to 80%, and 75 minutes to 100%." So if I want to take a nice vacation I can travel 170 miles (what I found for range on a model S) or just say 200 mile before I run out of battery. At 70 MPH I would have to stop less than every 3 hours to recharge. If I find a super charger and it is available then I have to sit there for 40 min just to get to 80% charged or 75 min to full charge. That said roughly 25% of my trip time is recharging (if the chargers are on the direct route and available). So my 20 hour trip to Florida is now 25 hours or more. I think this is a step in the right direction but it has to be better than that to get me to buy in. The same 20 hour trip in the C-Max (1400 miles) costs about $70 right now. On top of that the same trip might end up being 2 or 3 days in a Tesla compared to 1 to 2 days in the C-Max. Not to slam the Tesla here. It would be the same or worst (depending on the recharge rate) for any all electric right now. To me right now having a way to recharge on the fly is the best way to go. Plug in and recharge when you can and not have to stop for recharging. -
C-Max vs a king size bed
scottwood2 replied to scottwood2's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
Well, I did not take a pic with it loaded in the car so I it is just my word on this. The bed was an Ikea short headboard bed. Ikea beds come in kits so that saves space. We also used the front passenger area with the seat folded down for the long parts. There was two of us and my other half was stuffed in the storage area for the ride back. It did fit and the hatch was closed. It can happen if you load it the right way. -
The cost to do these repairs can climb quite quickly. I would rather see it totaled if it were my car. My previous car was in a somewhat costly repair due to an accident. I drove it for many years after the repair and it was fine. If you get the right repair shop it can be OK. Only time will tell. Good luck. i would be interested in seeing a pic and the estimated cost of repair if you have that but I am sure you have more on your mind than worrying about that. Glad you are OK.

Sorry Mark but I don't agree (at least with the research I did). The SEL also had issues and I also think that the 2013 (any model) is more prone to this problem. The 2013 had many reports of this with many fixes. These were fixed as time went on. That is why I decided to get a 2014 and not a 2013. The newer the car the less of a chance of having this issue. I do agree that the issue seemed to be more with SE with the standard displays (non touch screen) in the early years. I have an SE with the touch screen and I have been happy with it. There is plenty of information on the issue here on this site. I spent months looking into this and actually the number of SE models with the touch screen was much lower than the SEL. The big unanswered question here is now many people in the survey purchased these models with no problems. i would think the SEL sells more than the SE.

Did the FE improve any when you when to 50 PSI (Assuming the 2 to 3 MPG hit was at 45 PSI)? You said the ride in the city seemed thumpier but you thought the handling was not as good in the city as the OEM tires? I would have thought that thumpier would be stiffer and better in the city? Thx for the reply. I like the run flat idea too. On trips away from everything would be nice to have in case of a flat.

I wonder how bad they are? I don't like the corning in this car very much. My Scion xB was fun to throw into turns. Not so much with the C-max. Maybe these tires would help that? I don't mind a stiffer ride.

I totally understand that but it is pretty common today to have to use more than one browser. To me, It is amazing that everything works as well as it does. I have sites that I have to use IE to go to still. I don't like IE but do use it to get what I need. Even on my phone i have sites have have issues with one browser but work fine with another. Generally these are pretty much free sites so I can work around some issues. Of course In the end it is his choice to not use this site too. I just stopped using a website because it had too many pop up ads. I don't want to use an ad blocker because I do want to support these site but they can go too far (IMO). I also refuse to use sites that require me to sign up before I can read or shop there. Again to each his own.

Question: Looking at the instructions, it states a "USB drive" and then states "SD card". Can I use a USB thumb drive? From instructions: "Please note you will need a USB drive in order to proceed. This update is compatible with A3, A4, A5, A6 and A7 SD cards only" Thx
