I'm leaving EV+ off since the car seems to run better with it off and is more predictable. Plus and this has got me some flack from one owner, but with it off I'm seeing much higher mpg numbers almost immediately.

Clock issues have been happening to me since I took delivery back in September. I'm also having allot of instances where the car won't back up and I have to do a power down power up cycle. Annoying but tolerable. I assume Ford is reading all these problem and will have a solution at some point? Hoping

I had my dealer apply the exterior protection package. Keeps my Platinum White paint looking nice even when dirty. Big plus is bird poop doesn't seem to damage the surface of the paint where it landed from above. So far well worth the price I paid for it.

Installing The Torklift Central Hitch
mtb9153 replied to ArizonaEnergi's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
Was wondering how loose fitting the rack fits into the reciever tube on the hitch? I had a Smitty Built hitch on another vehicle and it was a sloppy fit when the rack was mounted and pinned in with the hitch pin. When my bike was mounted there was a bit of play left and right, not much maybe 3/8" at most. But I could see it moving in the rear view mirror everytime I made a turn the bike would move back and forth with it because of the slop. Curious what you were experiencing. -

Hope your summer plans include driving through Michigan? If we ever hear anything more and some dates? -

Nice that it seems to bolt right up. I love when aftermarket designers do that. I had one of those on an S-15 Jimmy I had years ago. Those things are heavy, I don't need a boat anchor tied to the tail of my C-Max -
Live Long and Prosper, sorry had to do it...

doesn't include mine built in September :) thanks for the heads up though
-
sorry I'm not naming mine, just don't care for the idea. I sometimes say my Max, but thats it.

on my last tank I took mine down to only 1 mile from empty. Took more than 12 gallons to refill @ $4.11 per gallon. Glad this only happens to me once every week.

Who says it can't be done-Post Highs here-over 25 miles traveled

From Speed6ing 2 C-Maxing I think I've passed you on 280 near El Monte Road? I've seen a Max like the one in your profile on more than one occasion. I frequently drive up 280 to Page Mill when my commute takes me to Palo Alto. Just wanted to mention it. Next time I'm the Platinium White Max with black factory wheels and blacked out front grille. -
Ok since it is possible that the weather here in the bay area has affected my recent numbers increase, I will keep track of my readings for the next 10 days. I just looked at the 10 day forecast and we are suppose to return to the normal temps for this time of year. Temps are forecast to be in the 60's unlike the last two days where we hit upper 70's and low 80's. I will try alternating every other day driving in EV+ to see how it affects things. I will at the end of each day's commute take pictures of my screen in the morning before my commute and afterwards for the next 10 days and post to the forum at the end.

I don't see how that could be. I doubt anything is wrong with my Max since it was just into Ford and they supposedly did a complete checkup for scheduled maintenance.

Okay I decided to see what would happen to my lower mpg numbers vs. what most of you are posting by turning off the EV+ mode. I did this last night and was eager to see what if any affect it had this morning during my Silicon Valley commute from West San Jose to Cupertino about 10 miles. This morning my average MPG was reading 40.4 which had been showing for weeks. As I got onto the major Avenue from my house to highway 17. Within a mile the avg mpg jumped to 41.3, then by the time I was on the freeway it was reading 42.5. I've never seen my average that high since buying the Max in September. After driving the freeway and then onto city streets in Cupertino it had dropped a bit to 42.2. I switched over to the trip 1 screen and it shown my overall mpg as 43.9. Once again an all time record for my Max. Driving around this afternoon it got up to 44.3, much to my excitement, another all time record. So in conclusion switching off the EV+ mode seemed to make a big difference for me. Plus I like the way the ICE kicks in and out, much smoother and quieter. I used to get a big thump as it kicked in, it is much smoother now. I'm looking forward to a sustained drive (of several miles) on the freeway with cruise set to 60-65 to see what improvements there might be? What percentage of battery vs. full EV I get. Not sure if the weather has played anything in this improvement? Because the last couple day's the bay area experienced spring like weather. We hit 82 by mid afternoon. Today was a bit cooler with maybe 79 at the same time. I am a supervisor for a guard company and drive a set number of miles and route everyday to check on all my employees. So it is pretty easy for me to be consistent with my daily driving. I am going to try and setup my Logitech webcam to my MacBook laptop to see if I can monitor and record the doors on the front of my radiator using my video capture software, Adobe On-Location. If I succeed I will post it to the forum or if it is too big to attach, I'll give a link to YouTube for anyone interested. Later.

Anyone noticed a problem starting in Reverse?
mtb9153 replied to CNCGeek's topic in General Discussion
I have had this happen to me many times, most recently this morning. Push the start button everything does what it normally does however the car won't move. I did notice when this happened the engine light was on. I pused to off and then back on and everything was fine. Last night I was adjusting my EV+ mode to off after reading another owners comments of improved mpg after doing so. This morning I noticed the battery was very low only the lower 1/4 blue. I think I didn't turn off the car before leaving the garage so it was in accessory all night. This probably had something to do with the false start problem this time. -
I HAVE FOUND THE ILLUSIVE MPG SWEET SPOT!
mtb9153 replied to Generalbeluga's topic in Hybrid Driving Tips & Tricks
I'm going to try and interface my USB Logitech web cam with my MacBook Pro using Adobe On-Location software which in theory should allow me to capture live video feed onto my laptop hard drive. The only thing which might create a problem Is the length of the cable I will use to connect the webcam to my laptop inside the car. Stay tuned for more info. On a side note, I tried turning off the EV+ mode on my Max this morning. Drove down the street from my house about 2 miles to catch hiway 17 freeway. Almost immediately my mpg went from 40.3 to 43.2. To date since I bought my Max I've never got that high of an mpg reading for combined city and freeway driving with Ecodrive set to 60mph -
I HAVE FOUND THE ILLUSIVE MPG SWEET SPOT!
mtb9153 replied to Generalbeluga's topic in Hybrid Driving Tips & Tricks
Do you have a copy of your shutter door video available for anyone to view it? I'd been interested to take a look. If I had one of those tiny Go cameras, I could give this a try since I can capture the footage to my MacBook Pro laptop using Adobe On-Location software I use for my Videography business and store it directly to my 1TB internal hard drive. I do have a small ball shaped USB webcam that I rarely use anymore. Maybe I could try that route. I can't put my HDV Canon XHA1 camcorder out in front of my Max it is too big and heavy plus it cost me $4k -
Is that figure your average mpg shown on the left screen? Or is it your overall mpg which is displayed on the trip 1 screen? Driving at 70 will drastically reduce your average and overall mpg readings. I always drive on the freeway with my cruise control set to 60-62 and I stay in the slow lane so not to piss anyone off. But I still seem to do it anyway. My average with my current tank is reading 40.4 and the overall mpg on trip 1 is 42.4

Everyone I have pics in my gallery of my caliper covers, take a look plus the black factory wheels I painted with plasti-dip

I like the WeatherTech All Weather best, the rubber look doesn't bother me and the price is right. Main thing is the dead pedal area is properly covered to protect the carpet. I bought similar black rubber mats from Ford Parts, but they don't come even close to protecting the left foot area. I work with acrylic sheets so I custom fabricated and crudely devised a clear covering for the left carpet area. Doesn't look the best, but it protects the left foot carpet since I sunk the $$$ for the mats from Ford.

Well, I bettered my last tank of gas with the one I just finished. Still not seeing the numbers most of you are, but I can live with this. Much better than what I sold to buy the Max. I wanted to take a screen shot of the miles before empty, but I didn't take the pictures until after I refilled the tank and that screen changed to reflect my now full tank. So you'll just have to take my word for it that it read 1 mile before empty. The pictures I've attached is the screen shot showing the overall miles and the other is a shot of the gas pump when I finished refilling the tank. I topped off to the nearest dollar, but the pump stopped at $52.50. Looking for even more miles but not sure how I'm going to get it. This last tank was the best I've got so far and I really tried to do everything right to get it. I just don't think there is more to get from my Max.

Come to the south bay, I'm seeing at least a couple a day. Plenty in Sillycorn Valley. I've seen a few in Palo Alto as well where I work part-time. When I bought mine in September it was quite awhile before I saw another. I think I had the first one in the south bay. No one has come forward to challenge me on that claim of September 20th. -
I'm sorry I will never name mine, just can't get into naming my car.
