  1. I don't buy it... Even with the sliders up at heavy traffic, mostly highway, aggressive driving, and AC Always on, which is way more extreme than what we really do, it says 44.1.

    We average 36 or so.

In reality our driving would be medium traffic, mostly city, spirited driving, and AC sometimes on.  For this it says 46.5.

For any trip where I see 46.5, I'll see 3 trips that are in the 20s.

Maybe it needed a slider for typical trip distance: Mostly <3 miles, mostly 3-10 miles, mostly 10-40 miles, mostly >40 miles.

[Oh wow - I see Fuelly says our avg. is 34.2 now.]

  2. I don't understand something about this feature which I do not plan to use, I'm too chicken to try it.  If you are suppose to keep your foot on the brake to abort if need be?  I'm assuming this means just having your foot poised and ready since actual foot pressure on the pedal would defeat the parking assist feature...right?  Just wondered for those of you who better understand the workings of this feature.

"All" it does is steer and prompt - it's up to the driver to brake and shift when prompted to do so.

  3. We got ours today in Plano, TX. (just North of Dallas).

...Nice to have somebody send you a significant amount of money just-cuz   :)

I'm still happy doubling the MPG of our previous car, and never expected to hit the EPA numbers anyway.

  4. Assuming you mean for Intelligent Access (i.e. pushbutton start):

I went through this when we first got our C-Max.

I found several writeups of procedures to try, but none of them worked.

Turns out you have to take it to the dealer (then hope they know what they're doing.)

At the time, my dealer spent almost 5 hours and still couldn't get it done, but I've heard people say that their dealer did.

  5. I've always wondered what the MPG of the ICE would be like if charging the HV battery could be removed from the equation.

(If that's what the elusive "sweet spot" is all about, it sounds quite significant.)

It seems a bit counterproductive to be charging while accelerating, but you can often see it doing that as indicated by the up-arrow.

I'd like to have a selectable mode that would only charge by regen and by what's generally considered engine braking.

(Okay, you'd also have to maintain enough charge to start the engine. Running the A/C would probably have to disable this mode.)

  6. Mine didn't get better till after the power steering failed at about 7000 miles.  After they replaced the Steering Gear Assembly and whatever related work, it hasn't been twitchy at all.  Now smooth as butter even at highway speed.  Tells me the twitchiness was a symptom of the real problem (I think somebody suggested overtightened linkages?)  But good luck getting a dealer to do anything about it unless it fails.

  7.

Here is a much cheaper Rear View Option but,.......unfortunately they don't provide access to the Manual.  It looks like you just need to tap into a Power Source / Negative Connection and plug into a video source.  All for under $20.00.

Unfortunately won't work with the CMax (without a lockpick or the like,) because the display is locked out unless you're in Park.

I'm curious as to what features that are being locked out you want?  The only thing that ever gets locked out for me, is anything related to the keyboard. That gets enabled as soon as I stop (don't have to be in park).  I'm curious if blocking that command would screw up the hybrid display on MFT (not that that is mission critical).

I'd like for a passenger to be able to watch a video on the MFT display wihle driving.  OTOH, it's only 640x480 composite video, so it's probably not worth all the trouble when you can buy a better resolution tablet for a hundred bucks or so.

  8. My dad's business was doing well for a few years there, and he got me a new '75 Firebird with a 350 in it, back when I was about 17.

Then when it got up to about 30K miles, he sold that and got me a Trans Am with a 400 in it.

It was a good thing I was in his fleet insurance, because I lost count of the number of tickets I got.

I drove that like it was a tank, and commuted to college in it.  By the time it had 120K on it, it had a cracked frame, multiple replaced panels, a bad oil pump, and would only run a few miles before losing oil pressure.  Ended up selling it for salvage.  Yeesh.

I'm so glad our son is nothing like the reckless driver I was at that age.  He's now 24 and hasn't had an accident or ticket.  (Jinxed now?)

  9. If there's a little bump in the steering each time it over-corrects, that's this problem.

If it smoothly over-corrects, I'd say that's just a difference from what you're used to - the steering on a C-Max has less play than any car I've ever had.

  10. If at highway speed, the normal slight pressure on the wheel to correct drift has the desired effect, then you don't have this problem.

OTOH, if you consistently have to correct to the same side on various roads, you should have your alignment checked (soon).

  11. I voted Other because there was no Doesn't Matter choice.

Really, I agree with some of the other posts that say the EPA score is about comparing the same rating methodology across all cars.

So if they want to change the rating system for all cars or all hybrids, that's fine with me, but don't just change this one.

  12. In my Ranger, I bought a visor pouch thing that slips on with two elastic straps.

Never used the storage at all, but I can slip it outward to fill that gap when I've got it pivoted to the side.

(I think I put a ruler in it for some stiffness so I could use it with the window open too.)

But in the C-Max, the visors are taller and at a strange angle, so I don't know if that trick would work.
