  1. There are 4 averages. 1) Trip 1 2) Trip 2 3) Lifetime for which a reset will reset EV+, etc 4) And a 4th average which you can reset by holding down the ok while in empower/enlighten/engage etc.
  2. Has anyone checked to see how far off the odometer and speedometer are? I don't have an empty enough stretch of highway to test on. So, an indicated 60mph vs scangauge to see how far off the speedo is. Then a scangauge 60mph vs gps to see how far off the car's computer is. And then, let's say for example indicated speed is same as that reported by scangauge (meaning that the ODO would be accurate as far as the car knows), but like with a lot of cars out there, it is actually over reporting, (indicated 60mph = 58mph according to GPS), then driving 600 miles and consuming 12gallons would actually be 580 miles with that same 12gallons which would mean 48.3 mpg instead of 50mpg. Of course i doubt the computer is smart enough to do this, but if this was the case and we're actually getting more real world results, wouldn't that be the goal in the long run?
  3. As long as Ford did not misstate the results of their tests run to the EPA's specifications, then I'm ok. Someone (credible automotive journalist) should just put the car on a dyno, and run the EPA tests so we can all be done with this.
  4. So, does that mean its possible to go 62mph in reverse since that's the maximum "speed" in EV mode going forward? Who's going to volunteer to test it out?
  5. EV+ took 8 trips and 12 days to register at work, still haven't registered at home yet.
  6. EV+ finally showed up for me this morning as I got into the parking structure at work. I'm usually parked on the 7th floor so being able to make that last leg on EV should be a noticeable plus. Of note, today marks the 8th time I've driven to work in the last 12 days since I've picked up the car. I've driven home much more than that (at least 12 times) but it hasn't learned that yet. the last 1/2 mile as I approach home include several elevation changes that add up to equal a climb of 160ft (some declines in there as well), for about a net climb of 140ft over 1/2 mile. (100ft climb over 0.2mi = ~10% followed by a 20ft decent over 0.1mi = ~4% followed by a final 60ft climb over 0.2mi =~6%) 1
  7. Ok, so in Empower mode, you can see a threshold for when you will go from EV mode to ICE on mode. And the Brake Coach + Fuel economy graphs give you feedback on how you've done in braking, cruising and accelerating, but is there anything be it built in (which I don't see) or say in a scanguage, the can tell you the threshold for when you go from Regenerative braking to using the regular brakes? I guess I want to be able to learn what the maximum amount of braking force is that I can use with the regenerative brakes so I can stop in the shortest distance while generating the most amount of charge for the battery.
  8. I am currently at an indicated 38MPG on this tank, less than 350 miles total in 1.5 weeks. My normal commute is 11 miles each way, equal mix of city and highway. But because its been so cold here lately, my car is still not in the "normal operating temperature range" as displayed on the temperature guage (between the brackets) by the time I'm at work, and same when I get home, and so, the engine is frequently running in order to warm itself up. I know I will benefit from the EV+ when it finally learns my work and home, as I'm frequently almost completely charged up by the time I arrive. I also park on the 7th floor of a parking structure at work, so, EV+ will hopefully allow me to go up the structure on batteries alone. At home, within 1/2 mile of where I park, there are several elevation changes that I also hope I can do while on batteries alone. There is first a 100ft climb over 0.2 miles, followed by a 20ft drop over 0.1 miles, followed by a 60ft climb over the final 0.2 miles.
  9. Page 122 of the manual Left side screen (left of the speedo) - Scroll down to Settings -> Driver Assist -> Eco Cruise -> On.
  10. As stated above, i wonder if it's because the car sensed a key inside so it unlocked itself? You can then press the lock on the key fob to manually lock the doors. Is that what you did?
  11. My understanding is that the Cmax does NOT automatically lock when you walk away (I was hoping that it would as that was the case w/ my Mazda). So, if my above statement is indeed correct, then for you today, 1) When the doors were not locked, one kick to open. 2) When doors were locked, two kicks to fully open. In my experience, it has nothing to do with the doors being locked or unlocked in that 1) With the doors locked, I can do 1 kick, liftgate unlatches, 2nd kick liftgate opens, 3rd kick liftgate closes. 2) Right afterwards, I would unlock the doors, then lock them again. 3) 1 kick to unlatch AND unlock -> seems like it is because it was recently opened?
  12. I believe EV+ is on by default, but you wont see the EV+ until after the car has had enough opportunity to figure out what your frequent destinations are. ECO cruise however is off by default, IIRC.
  13. No regrets in buying a C-Max, slight regret in paying $1500 for 5yr/100k Premium care warranty, since it was my fault for mis-remembering the "online" price I saw on these forums.. I didn't want one with such an early date, late Sept according to the window sticker(picked up 12/5/12), especially since for some reason the vehicle wasn't on the lot, but i figured that as it was only with 37 miles on the ODO when I picked it up, it was fine.. Seems like the fit/finish not as good as was on my 2006 Mazda. Will see what else happens.
  14. Well, I guess the thing is not "not activating" the hatch. I am sure the hatch is activated as something happens, be it the hatch opening completely, or the hatch only popping up from latched to unlatched. I've adjusted the maximum lift to height down slightly, will continue to monitor and report.
  15. I went to check again at lunch. Seems like the first try will necessitate a second kick... Whereas if the the liftgate was just activated (locked or unlocked), one try will do. A first try = not recently activated (within last 5 min) When I'm done with work today, will unlock doors then try the kick. The power liftgate buttons however work every time?
  16. How "loud" is the liftgate when it unlatches and again when it closes? Mine seems loud. I haven't had a chance to listen to another one, may need to make a trip to dealer and see.
  17. Hi all. Let me know if this is "normal." - Car is locked. - Approach car from the rear and "kick." Liftgate unlatches but does not open. - Kick again. Liftgate opens. Whereas - Car unlocked. - Approach car from the rear and "kick". Liftgate unlatches and opens all the way. It would seem to me that the foot activate liftgate should be programmed to open with a single "kick" even when the car is locked. Anyone care to comment? I did not see anything in the manual saying that a second kick would be necessary if the does are locked.
  18. Thank you both. I set up my Fuelly differently this time around after reading that bit in the manual. Guess the new way (odometer) has it's benefits as it's one less thing to jot down.
  19. Maybe someone can help me with this one. I haven't had the car long enough for it to have learned my frequent destinations (have had it for less than 1 week), so, I cannot say whether or not this is the case, but from reading the manual in regard to EV+ mode, it would seem like every time the trip computer is reset, the EV+ is cleared and so, the computer would have to spend another 2-4 weeks to relearn? Does anyone have experience? Is it with Trip 1, Trip 2 or is it with a reset of the "lifetime summary?" From Page 181 of the owner's manual: EV+ Mode Your vehicle recognizes your frequent destinations and allows for more EV driving as you approach them. For example, when nearing your home it should be easier to stay in electric mode. The EV indicator displays EV+ when this mode is active. Frequent destinations are learned by your vehicle. These locations can be cleared through the information display. The EV+ feature can also be turned off. See the Information Displays chapter for more information. The EV mode usage changes are based on the following criteria: • 1/2 mile (1 kilometer) from a familiar destination, your vehicle starts to raise the accelerator pedal based EV mode threshold. • 1/8 mile (200 meters) from a familiar destination, your vehicle is in full EV mode. • Infrequent destinations have no increase in EV driving. Note: Learning frequent destination takes approximately two to four weeks of use. Note: Familiar destination locations are reset through the information display when the trip information is reset.
  20. I just wanted to say Hi! to you all, and briefly introduce myself and explain why I decided on the C-Max Hybrid. I have been driving a 2006 Mazda Mazdaspeed6 since I bought it new in August of 2006. I currently have 117,xxx miles on it and have averaged, 20.3mpg for the last 93,xxx miles I've been keeping track (I actually had the first 20k miles which are not tracked on Fuelly on a spreadsheet which was lost when the hard drive crashed). For those who may be unfamiliar with that car, it was at the time, one of the quickest and fastest 4 door sedans for that price... and I've had a lot of fun in that car... Then I got married :). I didn't really complain about the 20mpg, or the premium gas, or the price of gas, or the 6 speed manual transmission, but my wife.. 1) Does not know how to drive a stick, and isn't inclined to learn to do so 2) would like to be able to save some money on gas (...by spending 30K on a new car) So, we were going to get a car anyway. It was just a matter of what. I had considered an Explorer, but it was not fuel efficient enough for her, plus it was a big vehicle, and optioned the way I would have wanted, would have cost > $40,000. We won't be needing the extra space unless my yet-to-be pregnant wife is blessed with triplets (no family history of multiple births) I refuse to drive/own a Prius, just like I refuse to buy/use an Apple product. I am in no means an environmentalist, but if I was forced into owning a hybrid, I wanted to make sure it was something I could enjoy driving like I have my Mazda. I have always been partial to Ford, so Ford Fusion/C-Max would best fit our needs. I look forward to many years with this car. I have every confidence that things will work out. I plan on keeping detailed fuel economy records... as you can tell by my Fuelly signature, I've logged many many many fill-ups. By the way, price paid was X-plan pricing $28,277 + taxes etc. I DID pay $1500 for the 5yr/100k Premium Care Extended Warranty, but I'm thinking I should "return" then repurchase for the lower rate? (I've seen ~$1100 on these forums?)
  21. Aside from the dealership and aside from my own (which I picked up 2 days ago), this is the first C-Max I've seen in person. And its a Taxi Cab. I was wondering when I'd see these replacing the Escape and Fusion Hybrid as well as the Prius Hybrid Taxicabs that are all over the place in San Francisco. Sorry I could not take more pictures but I had lunch and a coffee in one hand and the phone in the other.
