Yes, Jus_A-Cmax perfectly describes one of my favorite features of this amazing chariot. The "awareness" of me being present and responding to my lightest touch of intention, gives it a personality. Clever engineering that has to be carried out properly for it to not come across as gimicky. Elegant, if you ask me. Oh, Momshugs, since you have some missing items, please make sure you have the black rubber cup divider for the center console cup holder. If it is there, it will appear as though the cup holder is 2 completely isolated indentions. If it is missing, you will see an open divide between the two indentions. Perhaps not a good description, but there is a "removable" insert for that cupholder area. Good luck with collecting all the goodies that belong to your new C-Max.

Why I'm glad they got rid of the lifetime MPG...
snakebitten replied to Kelleytoons's topic in Fuel Mileage
My precious wife put the first 6600 miles on her Cmax. (I had no interest in the funny little car. But she loved it. and THAT is what mattered to me) Then the "funny little car" became mine. When I first drove it, I noticed that Trip 1 and Empower had the same mpg. And trip 1 had the total miles of the car in it. She had never hit "reset" (that is so her, by the way) The mpg (lifetime) was 40.2 At the time, I thought that was impressive! (little did I know) Anyways, I will NEVER hit reset. And I will warn the techs that do my service to NEVER hit reset. Kind of sounds silly, I know, but those 6600 miles are hers. And now part of her legacy. I want them to be a part of the lifetime sample. I can always just use the trip 1 or trip 2 to save my own mpg samples. Proud to say that the lifetime has increased to 43.8 as of this morning. I smile and think of her everytime it clicks up a tenth. I figure she grins and calls me smarty pants. -
I'm just thrilled there IS a 2015! Perhaps the Edsel predictions were premature. :)

Such a misunderstood car. Thus the amazing "value" that it can be found at. I personally think the car is worth every penny of MSRP. It's just an amazing package. But I got a deep discount on a brand new one and didn't even know that my salesman was doing anything but treating me with love. LOL Had no idea the thing was a pariah that they needed to get off the lot. -
LOl A true Gent, you are sir!

Well said Nick. :) An accurate 2cents, in my opinion. I do admit that my daily commute might be quite different than some, but my 56.mpg does NOT require me to drive sloooooow or to aggravate anyone else on the road. (disclosure: there are some folks that during rush hour, are aggravated with EVERY car on the road in front of them. I am not counting those poor stressed out souls) Instead, it is just "practicing" the techniques that you fine folks have documented here until it now has become quite natural. I suspect that now that I have broken the 700 mile club, I might just dial back my attention to the whole thing a bit, and see where it takes me. If I had to guess, I will never drop below the 50's. My repeatable commute just won't require it. I think I owe Ford at least $475.00 If not more.

THANKS Just A Cmax! However, it is just my (or yours) luck that I had to stop and get gas\coffee this morning. What can I say? :)

Fantastic thread! Some really great folks around here. My stereotype of hybrid drivers was way off the mark. LOL (Of course, I never thought I would be one) Love getting old. Age is the ultimate myth buster.

Thank for the cheering on, Sea-MaxSea! Pretty sure your predictions are gonna come true too. I'm at 640 miles with the little "Miles To Empty" gauge saying 101 miles. Even a Podunk cowboy like me can do that math. :) So in a couple of days I'll be able to confirm. Won't repeat what my driving style is, since I reported that earlier, but the difference in this tank from the last was simply making sure I filled it up at the pump, AND, actually setting the trip meter immediately. (instead of deciding to a couple of trips later) Yep, this car is simply amazing. I can now drive the thing properly second nature. And my daily ~50 miles of driving are completely repeatable. So for me, this will become an honest to goodness 51-56 mpg transport. Still can't get my head around that.

I'd LOVE to find a source for PURE gasoline. But alas, I live in an agrigultural part of the world and I would have to venture into the BIG city to find some. Not devoted enough to a small carbon footprint to subject myself to such a task. I put it this way when the kids have asked "Dad, why did you raise us out here in the sticks?" "Hmmmm, let's just say that I always felt that man was not meant to live where helicopters fly around at night with a search line on. You DO realize that if you see THEM, then whoever they are looking for is sure to be close by?" Thus, I'll just have to be happy with my current ~55mpg. :) About 350 miles into this tank, with the computer saying 412 miles to go until empty!

Just A Cmax, Are you the kind fella most likely to update the Honor Role? Not whining, promise. But would love to see my name in lights! :) Actually, you might wait a few days. My current tank is forecasting the next milestone. (700) I'm a couple of hundred miles into it and it is stating "Miles To Empty 577". (I realize anything could happen between now and then though) Not sure why the continued increase in performance, because I'm actually trying less and relaxing more. Maybe that actually helps. Cheers

Thanks for the welcome C-MaxSea. I might add I didn't set the trip 2 meter until I had driven a few miles into the tank. Not many, but a few. I also didn't even think to squeeze any fuel into the tank beyone the initial auto-shutoff at the pump. I suspect had I "prepared" for the challenge properly at the pump, I would have been a viable candidate for the 700 mile club. Saying all that, I DID squeeze a bit of extra petrol (about a 1\4 of a gallon) into the current tank and immediately reset the trip 2 counter. I'm going to see what happens if I do as you suggest and "relax and enjoy the C-Max", but use the now native techniques of driving the thing efficiently. Again, thanks to all who have made the effort of teaching others the proper way to actively operate this thing. I'm thinking of dropping by my dealer and letting a couple of the fellas know that I am available to walk any potential customer throough the TRUTH about this car. I owe it forward, if you know what I mean. :)

Well, I just couldn't resist. :) After lurking and reading and digesting all the tricks of the hyper-miler trade that you gents (and ladies) have documented here........ I must admit that I placed a couple of restrictions on myself before I even considered participating: 1. I will NOT make anyone in a vehicle behind me participate unwillingly in my pursuit of joining this club. 2. I will NOT be concerned with accerlerating from a dead stop to the posted speed limit in EV mode. I just do not want to be a member that bad. 3. I will NOT travel below the posted speed limit. (Although if coasting can extend my EV and there is nobody behind me, I will include this technique in my strategy) I also am willing to admit that on cool mornings, (70's) I did indeed choose to roll down the windows and benefit from the added efficiency of no AC. But I am on the coast of Texas. In July. There are few hours of the day that fall within that temperature range. Anyways, it turns out is was almost childs play for this magic little chariot. What a delight it is turning out to be. One other addmission is that I am not much of a carbon footprint concious fella. So I don't want to be a hypocrate. I am enjoying this simply because I am facinated and impressed with what we are, as a species, capable of achieving. Seems like nowadays, every time I go to sleep they invent something amazing. I wake to a new world. Simply fascinating.

Thanks for the kind words Frank. If you knew Brenda, heading to the other side on Easter Sunday just plain makes sense. Our journey was a most amazing 33 years, I assure you. Full of adventure. Truly blessed. :) At the risk of getting scolded as an off-topic newbie, let me reiterate that I am a validated, and tickled pink, with now my amazing little Ford 9600 miles. And as of yet, not a single issue beyond an oil change and tire rotation. And with some of you hyper-miler's assistance, getting 55-60mpg on my daily 46 mile commute.
