  1. We've updated our reliability stats for the C-MAX to include owner experiences through June 30, 2016. Reliability information elsewhere is based on a survey conducted in April 2015--well over a year ago.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year (lower is better):

    2014 C-MAX: 26, moderate

    2013 C-MAX: 35, moderate

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds", to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

    2013 C-MAX: 74, < 1

I'd love to have stats for the 2015 and up, but we need more participants to make this happen.

For the repairs behind these stats, reliability information on other models, and to sign up to help improve this information:

  2. We've updated our reliability stats for the C-MAX to include owner experiences through the end of 2015, about eight months ahead of other sources. In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year--lower is better:

    2014 C-MAX: 14, low

    2013 C-MAX: 43, moderate

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds", to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

    2013 C-MAX: 67, 2

No stat? Then we especially need more owners involved for that model year.

  3. We've updated our reliability stats for the C-MAX to include owner experiences through September 30, 2015. In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

    2014 C-MAX: 10, low

    2013 C-MAX: 34, moderate

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds", to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

    2013 C-MAX: 70, 2

We'll have further updates in February and in May. Additional participants are needed to provide precise stats for all model years (we especially need more for the 2014 and up).

  4. That's the idea. We especially need more owners involved with the 2014 and up.

Our reliability stats for the C-MAX now cover the year ending June 30, 2015. (Others are over a year behind, and so report how these cars were doing when a year younger.) Repair trips per 100 cars:

    2014 C-MAX: 24, low, small sample size

    2013 C-MAX: 29, low

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds", to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

    2013 C-MAX: 79, 2

For the descriptions of all reported repairs, results for other models, and to sign up to help improve this information:

  5. So, how have these cars been doing lately?

Our reliability stats for the C-MAX now include owner experiences through March 31, 2015. (Others are nearly a year behind.)

In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year ("low" is best):

    2014 C-MAX: 30, moderate, small sample size

    2013 C-MAX: 29, low

Plus, the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

    2013 C-MAX: 80, < 1

No stat for a model year? Then we very much need more participants for it. Same for those with small sample size notes. Next updates in August and November.

  6. New stuff this time. We've updated our reliability stats for the C-MAX to include owner experiences through the end of 2014. Plus we've added reliability trends graphs. These indicate how a model's reliability has changed as it has aged, and how different model years performed when the same age.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

    2014 C-MAX: 26, low, small sample size

    2013 C-MAX: 23, low

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds", to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

    2013 C-MAX: 82, < 1

We'll have further updates in May and in August. The more owners participate, the more comprehensive and precise these will be. We especially need more 2014s and 2015s.

  7. You seem to assume that this survey is like most surveys. It isn't. The stats exclude problems that appeared before members joined. Instead, once someone signs up they are surveyed after the end of each quarter going forward. We follow up as necessary to minimize the chance of non-response bias. This system works--we have many cars for which only a small percentage of owners have reported repairs.

An extreme case: with the 2015 Forester, we had zero repairs reported for 66 cars. As you suggest, this would not happen with the typical reliability survey.

  8. We've updated our reliability stats for the C-MAX to include owner experiences through September 30, 2014.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

    2013 C-MAX: 23, low

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds", to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

    2013 C-MAX: 77, < 1

Additional participants always helpful. Especially need more for the 2014 and up, to get them included.

To view the repairs behind these numbers, check the stats for other cars, and sign up to help improve this information (next update in February):

  9. We've updated our reliability stats for the C-MAX to include owner experiences through June 30, 2014 (making them about 14 months ahead of some others).

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

    2013 C-MAX: 26, low

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds", to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

    2013 C-MAX: 76, < 1

Next updates in November and in February. The more owners participate, the more comprehensive and precise these will be.

    2013 C-MAX: 28, low

  15. I went to the site to sign up and found out into is not encrypted.  So for the same reasons I have not joined Pandora, I can not join Truedelta until they get a true site encrption.

We do encrypt passwords in the database. We'll look into encrypting the sign up / login process. Do forums do this?

  16. Same here. My antivirus was giving me a warning so I did not go any further. If you can correct this I will join.

Sorry about this. Someone snuck some adware into a third-party tool. Fixed some time ago. We ended up hiring a security firm to help harden and monitor the site.

  17. I wanted more up-to-date car reliability information that included actual repair rates. So a few years ago I started getting people together to make this possible. TrueDelta now updates actual repair frequencies, not just dots, four times a year, to track cars closely as they age.

We've had excellent participation by owners of many Ford models, and provided initial reliability information soon after launch for the new Fiesta and Focus. I'd like to do the same for the C-Max, just a matter of how soon we can get enough owners involved.

Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.

To encourage participation, participants receive full access to all results, not just those for the C-Max, for free.  I'll share results for the C-Max in this thread after each update.

  18. I drive a Prius and a C Max and I must admit, I am very annoying to drive behind.  I have come to the conclusion that on my drive to and from work, my driving habits don't make any difference at all in commute time.  There is lots of traffic, so people who pass me usually end up next to me at a traffic light a few miles away.  I have 700 miles now and am up to 40.9 MPG overall.  I am not sure if I ever want to reset the lifetime total.  It would be a neat stat to have an overall MPG average of several years. I use this feature on the Prius and found that I got about 51 mpg over a whole year.

How do you feel the two cars compare?
