I was mesmerized by the amazing thing. No wonder she delighted in it so much! (And it smelled just like her too. A nice emotional balm to go along with it's other attributes)

    I kept it. :)

Oh, snakebitten,  What an beautiful, poignant story. Thank you so much for sharing with us.....a bunch of virtual strangers.......with one common thread that started binding us. And as time has gone on, some of us.....the lucky ones....have found other threads.

I echo our other members condolences for the loss of your beloved. It is never easy, and we are never ready.

We hope you will stick around and share your adventures with your C-MAX.

    Peace,

    Adair

  2. First 600+ mile tank today, our 3rd fill since purchase on March 26th, 2014.

    attachicon.gifIMG_5273med.jpg

Pump showed 13.412 gallons, odometer displayed 614.3 miles, for a hand-calculated 45.802 mpg versus car's cheerfully optimistic display of 48.1 mpg.

And you don't even have 2,000 miles on the car yet!!! Imagine what you'll be doing when the car is *broken in*!! I'm going right now to add your name to the list. Congratulations kostby, and welcome to the 600+ Mile Club.

PS....I'm using the car's stated MPGs....that's what we've been using for everyone else.

Hi, kids, my wife and I are two old folks who started off Friday looking for either a small SUV or a hybrid sedan and ended up with a C-Max after the internet salesman at the Ford dealership (a terrific guy named Ryan) called it the "hybrid version of the Ford Escape".   We think that description apt if not complete.  And after driving it we never even got as far as the Toyota dealer (to check out the Prius V, which after reading things makes me glad we didn't bother -- however, I've driven my friend's Prius Sedan and it's a whale that I would *never* buy).

I'm actually pretty amazed we got a hybrid (even though it was on the table I was pretty sure we were going to get a small SUV since we came from a Durango and wanted the same sort of layout if not size).  But this is one of those rare cases of anti-buyer remorse (you know, you go out and order a car and then start reading about it and think you made a mistake).  The more reviews and info I read about the C-Max the more right I think we were and the more excited I am about getting it (the one we want is being delivered in the next couple of days and we'll pick it up Thursday).

Anyway, I'll stop by here I'm sure to ask questions and look for tips and tricks (and perhaps share any we discover).  It's been a LONG time since I've been as excited about a car as I am about this one (our Durango is 14 years old, bought brand new in 2000, and will now serve as only a backup).

Welcome Kelleytoons! You are our 2,301 member! Unless you retired at 50, we are probably of the same generation. I predict you will LOVE your C-MAX! I have a 2013 SEL that i special ordered and couldn't be happier with it. I got all the bells and whistles, and some I haven't even used yet, like Park Assist. Can't wait to hear your thoughts after you've driven for a few days. There are some amazing, intelligent, creative, and resourceful folks on this forum. You'll have some fun reading, and then figuring things out as you go along. Please don't hesitate to throw a question out there if you don't see an answer you need. With folks on both coasts, there's almost always someone on here.

    Again, welcome!

  4. I made it.  Actual fuel added was 12,2 gal.  Fuel warning was only in red for a couple miles.  Still had 15 to empty. Apologize for upside down pic.

Doubt I will reach it again until fall arrives.  Have not been using AC much but will now that I made this exclusive club! And this was my second tank!

Congratulations! And welcome to the club shinytop!!! You are our 60th Member!!! :yahoo:  Can't wait to see what you do next!!

  5. I bought a 2012 Subaru Impreza based on Consumer Reports rating of this car and it is terrible - underpowered, noisy, and doesn't go between oil changes without you having to add a quart or more.

I am looking at the Cmax but have seen posts other than CR's discussing CMAX frequently not starting or tires going flat or general unreliability.

I have looked at a lot of the posts in this forum and it appears that most of you like/love the CMAX.  The CMAX is a bit more than I would spend on a vehicle (I'm also looking at Mazda 3) but I am looking for something that is going to last me 10 years (100,000 miles).

My question to all of you - if you had it to do over again - would you still buy the CMAX?

    Hi knahs42, and welcome,

I'll do a better *welcome* later (I'm at work now), but to answer your question, Without hesitation, I would buy my C-MAX again. I love this car!

  6. I guess my #1 problem was that I wasn't exactly LOOKING for this place. I stumbled upon it when googling the recall my C-Max is under and saw you guys talking about it.

I actually have a million questions and theories swimming around in my head that I was going to try to formulate into an ask.reddit post that was going to get downvoted into oblivion and never seen by anyone with any sort of legitimate input. I have a feeling those questions may fare better here. I will try to get everything sorted out later after browsing around to see if my questions have already been answered and seeing how people react to certain questions.

    My background:

I am 28 from Wisconsin. Married with a 9 month old (which means a big ass car seat with all the side impact protection you could ever want thanks to the wife's paranoia).

I have a 25 mile commute to work which means I drive around 260-270 miles a week.

Bought a USED 2013 C-Max Hybrid for around 18k. Had 5000 miles. It was one of only 2 used C-Maxes in the entire area and had the lowest mileage of the two. There were several new ones to choose from but sticker price started at around 26k. I feel like I got a good deal. This is the youngest car I have ever purchased.

I am a Network Administrator who is a techy and a gamer. I find this personality has a direct influence on how I drive. I primarily drove a Toyota Rav4 before which got around 24MPG. I was never big into minmaxing (a gamer term) when it came to fuel consumption. I think you guys call it hypermiling. That all changed when I got my C-Max. Getting those instant results for MPG, brake coaching, etc really turned my driving habits on their head.

My lifetime average shows 43.2MPG (reset when I purchased). I frequently get about 47MPG on my commutes, typically not below 44 unless it was a bad day. Because of this my lifetime average continues to creep higher.

I run Empower on the left screen which has been invaluable in training my foot to stay in EV. HVAC is typically on because of the little one in the back. I take him to daycare every morning and pick him up on the way home.

Looking forward to engaging in some discussions!

:clapping: Loved reading your post Bandit, and welcome to our (mostly) happy little C-MAX family! Sounds like you and your car are a perfect match! Have fun learning all the cool stuff it does. Some you may never use, some you'll wonder how you ever drove without! Tons of reading and even more helpful folks here. Glad to have you!

  7.

Regardless, I was able to break through the 700 mile barrier. Not much chance of bettering this in the near future as I will be spending too much time on the interstate.

    attachicon.gif710 miles.jpg

Gee, when you break your old PR, you really crush it! Can you tell summer is here in the midwest?!!! Well done HP! That's just super! So nice to see these higher numbers rolling in once again. I'll get your name in it's proper new place this morning. Congrats!

  8.

Just got home from work and took this.  Sorry for the glare.  I will update again when i actually get fuel.

Did not have the guts to keep going so here it is.  All country roads, no city driving, temps in the 70s.  Not too bad for the second tank!

Seriously? Second tank???? That's amazing! Way to hit the ground running rjdeeme29! I will get your name on the Honor Roll *toot sweet!*

  9. Welcome Maxx! We are happy that you found us.......and that you've already found some answers to your questions! If you've had your C-MAX for 10 months, you've probably learned a lot on your own, but there are still tips and tricks to be found, and lots of good reading. Our members are a very helpful group! There is such a wealth of knowledge and experience here that it amazes me sometimes. Because many of us have been here since the *Dark Ages* of 2012, there is probably not much with the C-MAX that someone hasn't experienced, so if you don't find an answer, by searching, then fire away with the question.

Tell us more about you, if you want.....what part of the country are you in? Nice warm climes or areas with frigid winters? Mountains or flat lands? City or country? What led you to your choice of the C-MAX? (Sorry if that's being too nosy)

    Have a great weekend!

  10. Adair,

Your braking score of 96% seems low. Is this what you typically get on your commute?

    Hi HP,

To be perfectly honest, the winter was so grim, plus I had other things on my mind, that I didn't really pay attention to the brake score % I looked at the MPGs, sighed, wished for summer,  and let it go at that. This is the first pix I've taken of the end screen in probably 10 months.

  11. If you've been here a while, you know that I drive the same route to and from work every day. 17 miles of rolling back roads, a couple of stop lights and stop signs, speeds from 30-50 mph. It's a peaceful, usually uneventful route in my little Zen car.

My previous best on this route was last August when I got 61.3 MPGs. Today was even better.....63.1!! This was driving the speed limit and with AC. I love my C-MAX!

Now, let's see if I remember how to upload a picture!

  12. Woo Hoo!!! Way to go Frank! Nice way to start off the summer......and summer does make a difference, doesn't it? I have a question for you......do you see much impact from using the AC? Mine has little to no effect on my mileage......nothing like using the heater in the winter. And I do use the AC just about every day now.

Oh, and I'll get Post 1 updated right away

(10 min. later) Hey, wait a sec.......did you just jump in at 707 miles here? Skipped right over the 600 level? WOW!

  13. Been drinking the hybrid coffee for 20+ years - the real stuff that is, it's called half caf. ;)  And could never swallow the 'drive by committee' dash of the Priiius.  So right Marc, I could never buy a pure ICE car again - so antiquated, gives me the heeebie jeebies just thinking about it.  (Hope there's a full EV or equiv in my future. - let's see, would that be full caf or no caf?   ;))

(PS  We gotta have some fun with those Priiiiiuses - all in good fun.)

(PSS Could not swallow the battery hump of the Energi either, even though it is the best car on the planet)

Soooooo NOT upset with Ford for bringing out the two best hybrids on the market.

Oh, and getting 46-48 mpgs like any good tree hugging granola type like me should/could/can if they choose/really care - at least in fair weather Seattle where it is cloudy and cool (40-60 degrees) 360 days of the year! ;) ;) ;) miserable, wet, mossy, snails, slugs, eeeeeeeeky weather!

PSSS John, you have hinted at the crux of the 'numbers problem' - the EPA 'tests' do not test appropriately for the hybrid design of the C-Max. The C-Max is designed for caring/careful driving, not accelerator/brake driving like our culture has ingrained in us. ("accelerator brake, accelerator brake" line from Bob Newhart) The C-Max is ahead of the curve, and the EPA (as always) trailing the curve. IMHO  As an example, the C-Max is way more temperature sensitive than speed sensitive, and should probably be rated for climate conditions rather than 'speed' conditions (think California vs Northern Canada e.g.) Maybe after they kill a few good cars they will figure it out.

Drive like you care, but only if you wish and never too slow,  fair weather / save the planet it's the only one we've got,  nick

Can I like this post more than once??

    How about LOVE it?!

  14. Well, it looks like I dropped into this thread on the right night for one and about 2 months 2 late for another!!! BUT, really nice job Nick!! Way to go! You are now officially moved up on the list!

And welcome to the 600 + Club, Bemyax!! So sorry I missed your announcement 2 months ago!

I think I have everyone caught up now, but if I've missed anyone, please email me @ arenning@aol.com. Family medical issues have kept me away, but I'm back (at least more regularly now) and I want to catch up with everyone!

  15. So I guess the word 'RESOLVED' should be added by one of the Site Admins to the title of this thread. And despite delays, once the issue was posted in this forum on May 15th, the resolution took just over 3 weeks, and seemed to center around a delivery-company problem, NOT Ford itself. That's certainly NOT the 'worst customer service ever in ford'!!!

    Done.

  16. Hi Mildred, and Welcome to the Forum! When I got my C-MAX, the dealership set me up with one of their tech guys for an hour to go over some of the features of my car. He was good, but I've learned way more from the members of this forum. So you came to the right place.

I know it can seem a little overwhelming at first, and you wonder if you'll ever master it all, but take it a day at a time......a ride at a time. As others have said, in the beginning just drive it like your old car. Soon the car will begin to *teach* you how to drive it. (When I was told that, I laughed, but it's true!)

Depending on the package you got with your car, there are some features that you may seldom use and some you will wonder how you ever got along without! The technology is amazing! But don't let it scare you....play around with stuff and find the features that work for you.

There is a ton of great information here, and incredibly helpful members, so read, read, read previous posts, and don't be afraid to ask questions.

    You're gonna love your car!
