  1. I just did mine.  I  live in a colder climate and noticed that the windows were not clearing as fast, the cabin wouldn't warm up very fast and the windows would fog really easily if you tried to breathe.  It wasn't like this when I first got the car.  After reading the forums, it dawned on me that there is a cabin filter.

I have prepaid maintenance so I assumed the dealer had been changing it.  I seem to forget the dealer I used to go to is pretty sketchy.  Thankfully I don't go to them anymore.  So rather than wait for my next maintenance cycle, I decided to replace the filter right away.  We will have more cold weather, winter is far from over in Canada, so more airflow and faster cabin heating times are important.  I have just shy of 60,000 km and the filter was filthy.  Shoehorned the new one in there.  T15 bit fit perfectly.

Immediately I could feel more air coming out of the vents.  I'm amazed at how much that dirty filter was restricting airflow.  I think I'll make this a yearly routine right before the cold temps hit.  And I hope that the 2nd time around I won't have any bruised knuckles.

Anyone know the best place to pick up an air filter?  In Canada, it's $40 for a Motorcraft filter from the dealer, $48 for a Napa gold filter from Napa and $33 for a Fram filter from Canadian Tire.  The Fram filter doesn't fit very well and I won't purchase it next time.

  2. One of the options for the Ford Extended Warranty is $50 for light replacement.  I had a LED tail light go out on my Mercury Milan Hybrid and it was a $500 part, you had to replace the entire assembly, not just a bulb.  I figured that might make the coverage worthwhile.  It never occurred to me that changing a headlight bulb would be such a difficult issue.  Maybe the extra $50 is a good investment.

  3. The Cmax seems roomier, and the higher seating makes the view out better.  Probably better use of space in the Cmax.  The trunk on the fusion hybrid is not too bad.   The trunk in the fusion energi is tiny.  We do a lot of cross country trips and we like the fusion for that.  Plus i have a spare tire in the trunk of the fusion.

  4. This is definitely an issue I have, in trying to figure out city/highway. Once I leave my neighborhood, since I live at the edge of the city, 40 mph is about the lowest speed limit I see. This also is a challenge with mpgs -- I have that minumum of 40 mpg speed limits but often still have lights every 1/2 mile or so. This means I accelerate up to 40 or higher, then may need to stop in half a mile or mile, so I don't get a chance to cruise under electric power long enough to "pay off" the energy used to accelerate. Worse, the lights tend to use pressure plates to determine when to change, making the lights hard to predict.

I have the same issue, except I commute on an beltway that goes around the town with a 45 mph speed limit.  In the past 20 years there has been so much development that it is now 3 lanes each direction with duel turning lanes at lights spaced about every 1/3 mile to accommodate all the new big box stores, corporate campuses and subdivisions.  It seems the common and accepted way to drive this is to race from one stop light to the next then sit for five minutes at a red until the next heat.  Putting along at about 30 mph gets you close to synced with the lights (and about 4 fingers per segment) but is an invitation for fender benders.

I finally figured a route through town at 30 mph.  Ironically, it takes the same amount of time to drive even though the trip is two miles longer.  Since the beltway goes around the city, there are several alternate options available to me, some good, other not so much.  When I used to drive to work at 4:30 am I could time them and cruise along with only one stop, Now I start at 7:15 and get caught among all the "good neighbors" late for work heading to the insurance companies HQ and State Office in their BMW's.

  5. The Torklift doesn't - there are multiple sensors.  And thus rhe foam padding on the vertical arm of my bike rack!  Hint: Never install the hitch or load bikes with the key in your pocket!

Thanks for the info.  I just bought a Curt hitch from one of the forum members that turned his lease car in, and I'm worried the hitch will prevent the auto open.  Anyone here install the Curt hitch?
