I had mine connected to the tow plate as I did not want to hang from the grill without reinforcement. I just bought a 2015 Energi and an RVI2 breaking system. What settings are you using. I have not towed as yet. The RVI book says one thing about Hybrids and the RVI tech service says that customers are using the Vacuum Brake settings as it has a dead pedal (breaking assist with the engine off).
