I finally did it!

I finally got to 600+ miles on a tank (with 19 miles left to empty).

Driving was probably 75% city, 25% highway, regular fuel, E10.

One negative (and something for folks to be careful about): the C-Max displayed showed that I had used 12.3 gal, but the fill up took 13 gal at the pump, so I was closer to running out of gas than I thought while driving.

I'm always wondering how many miles I can get on a tank in my C-Max, but I don't want to risk running out of gas during a trip.

So...I just let one of the trip odometers run until I got close to, but not over, 13.5 gallons of gas used up (since that is the fuel capacity in the C-Max) to see how far I could go. Of course, this wasn't a single trip (and I actually filled the tank once or twice while the trip odometer was running), but it was fun to see how far I could go.

Driving mostly in the city (no AC, heat occasionally), I got to 603 miles for the "tank" of gas (see attached pic).

I'm looking forward to seeing pics from other forum members getting 610 miles - or even more! -  for a "tank" of gas (i.e. not more than 13.50 gallons of gas used).

In my opinion, Ford really got the sheet metal right with the 2013 Fusion - it is a very sharp looking car!

Add me to the (unfortunately) growing list of C-Max owners who go down to the garage in the morning and find that the battery is dead. Similar to other posters, there was absolutely no electric power available: no dome lights, no radio, no headlights, no lights on the dash - nothing.

Further, given that just about everything in the car is electric, when the battery is dead, you can't unlock the doors, nor can you shift the gear into N to roll it to a more convenient location.

I called Ford roadside assistance, and I will say that I was pleased with their service - it was quick and the car started right up with a jump. After the jump, everything seemed to be working find (ran fine, radio stations still there, phonebook still there, etc.). I took it to the dealer, but they couldn't find anything wrong with it.

Ford should follow these posts for an "early warning system" of possible problems. I think there are now 3 or 4 members of this forum with the same problem, and I think that indicates a common problem.

One the plus side: I got 50+ mpg driving to and from the dealer!

In addition to the other fine suggestions on this thread, I would emphasize the need for someone from Ford to monitor the site, especially for problems experienced by new C-Max owners. I think it would provide Ford with a very valuable "early warning system" on potential problems.

For example, I think I am now the third member of this forum that has had the problem with the car being completely dead in the morning. I got a jump start and took it to the dealer (they couldn't find anything wrong) and mentioned that this problem has come up for other users (via this forum). But...the dealer had no idea about the dead battey problem.

If Ford would consistently monitor the site, and communicate the findings to the dealers, they could really get out ahead of any potential problem

We used to drive a 2007 Caravan around town for errands and such, and the C-Max is better on every level - especially the mileage!

I have the SE version, not SEL, but I think the SEL will play a DVD but through the R/Y/W inputs under the center arm rest (next to the USB inputs). But, you would need the DVD player that can hook up to those R/Y/W inputs.

To echo the above comment, I think that there are two break-in periods. The first is for the car/engine, and the second is for the driver.

Indeed, I find that leaving a couple minutes earlier than usual for my destination has the greatest positive impact on my mileage (and then I do get 45+ mpg).

The actual mileage on the C-Max is very good, especially considering the size, roominess, and horsepower of the vehicle.

None the less, I think Ford made a mistake pushing the 47/47 mpg claims, especially for the highway number (at speeds greater than about 65mph the car doesn't operate as a hybrid - just as a fuel efficient gas engine).

I think that they should have marketed car with 45/40 mpg. It would still be a great selling point with that mileage (especially with the other great features of the car), and would also be more comparable to what a wide range of drivers are getting (and I would put myself in that group). Drivers would be happy to get the claimed milage and, if you are able to get higher mileage, then you will be just that much happier.

It was a combination of events that pointed me towards the C-Max.

First, my wife went to a local fall festival and there was an engineer from Ford showing the Focus Electric. I was interested in a new car that got better mileage than our minivan (probably about 17mpg around the city), but I wasn't really interested in an all electric car. Still, I went to the Ford website to learn more - and that is when I saw the information on the C-Max.

I had to wait awhile for the local dealership to get one in to test drive, but after I drove it, I was sold on it - it drives just like a "regular" car, but with great gas mileage.

And the rest, as they say, is history.

I haven't needed any service yet on my C-Max, but I have been quite happy with the dealer I bought it from (and I have owned a couple of Fords in the past as well).

That said, I think Ford could have done a better job preparing their dealerships for this new car. Sometime you will read on this forum of the new car owners knowing more about the C-Max than the dealership.

I have been more excited and happy with the C-Max than any other car I have owned (about 4 others) - and its the SE model without any options.

The car is fun and easy to drive, and once you drive it for a week and realize that you have only used up about 3 gallons of gas (and get 40 to 45 mpg), you definitely won't have any regrets!

Bonus: I think you will find several other dog lovers on this forum who are happy with their C-Max.

The CMax does come with an inflate kit, comprised of tire sealant and an air compressor that you plug in the 12V outlet. It is stored under the front passenger seat.

I just use regular 87 Octane - nothing special.

I haven't had that many fill ups yet (one of the primary benefits of a hybrid!), but so far the car fuel guage is pretty close to the amount the car takes at the pump.

Of course, we'll have a better idea after 3 or 4 months with the car.

You can order the cargo liner online (look for accessories at Ford.com) that is tailor made for the C-Max. It is then delivered to a local dealer of your choice where you pick it up.

The delivery time took about 10 days, but I was very pleased with the cargo liner.

I have the SE package with just the plain MyFord (not the touch system), and you still get three years of SYNC for free with the great services, such as the traffic alerts described above. You can even get turn by turn directions using sync services, but without the street view.

Just go to syncmyride.com and you should be able to sign up and get the free services for three years, although I think you will need the VIN for your car.

I also use the traffic alert feature even when I am in my old car. I just "ask" sync to send me texts when there is a traffic problem - and it goes to my phone regardless of the car I am in.

You can find the recommended tire pressure for most cars in the door sill of the driver side door.

Mine is also the same, and I have the SE model.

The recommended tire pressure for the C-Max is 38 psi.

Does anyone slightly over-inflate the tire pressure (to, say, 40 psi) to try to increase their mileage? If so, how has that worked for you?

While I'm still on my first tank of gas, I'm generally getting about 42 to 44 mpg depending on the trip, city versus highway, etc. While I am very happy with the mileage, it is lower than the claimed level of 47 mpg. In fact, I think it would be very difficult to consistently get 47 mpg.

Of course, I would be curious to hear if other C-maxers are able to get the claimed mileage (and how).

I got the car from dealer stock and was able to negotiate a little bit on price. It helped that Ford had a $1000 cash back offer at the time of my purchase (although I had to bring the promotion to the attention of the dealer).
