I had a chance to go back to the dealer after picking the car up, since they didn't adjust the windshield wipers correctly when they put the car back together (they were touching each other). It gave me a chance to talk to the mechanic who worked on the car. I asked him to explain to me how they went about working on this particular issue. He explained that the codes give them a "general idea" of the area causing the issue. In my case it was pointing them to the area under the cowl, near the windshield. He unplugged, cleaned and re-seated all of the connectors in the area, in hopes that this would fix the issue. He further explained that the electrical tolerances in our cars are so narrow, that the least bit of variance can trigger the light to come on. He then complained that Ford Warranty doesn't give the mechanics much time to search around on issues like this, because they don't want to rack up any more charges under warranty than they have to, so it's sometimes frustrating to the shop, because they can't spend much time on these types of problems. If that's the case, they must've been flipping out over the charges they incurred while this car was in the body shop for 3 weeks, as they looked for all of the water leaks, HA!

Thanks for the advice, i appreciate it! Picking it up tonight. The dealer essentially told me that they can't diagnose it unless the light comes on while it's in the shop, which I just don't understand. I find it hard to understand that Ford would engineer this thing to light up a trouble light and record codes that don't point to the problem. Guess we need to just drive it into the ground, and hope it doesn't got into "limp mode" on the freeway.

Just talked to my dealer, they acknowledged the lights, but can't seem to do anything about it. They will keep it a few days to see if they can replicate it. Frustrating. We like the car itself a lot, comfortable, easy to drive etc, but if these issues keep coming up, I'm not going to put up with it. Ford can and should do better than this.

AZgman, you should open up your hatch and take a good look at the body panels on each side of the hatch, and around the hinges on top. This is where the sheet metal is welded together. If you see any gaps in between the welds or around the hinges, you will probably have a place where water can get in. The problem with this, is water incursions can happen and run under the interior panels. It will then pool up around the battery area, which is not a good thing. We also had leaks under the black trim piece on the roof, which can only be found by running water around it, then removing it. we live in Seattle, so we didn't notice it until the rainy season hit.

I've had this car 13 months now, been without it for nearly a month earlier this year while my dealer chased down multiple water leaks on the roof and in the hatch area. Now I'm getting a yellow wrench light. Taking it to the dealer again. I just had the oil changed and they updated the computer with a new program based on a recall notice. I only have 5200 miles on this car, and I'm very disappointed in it from a quality and reliability perspective. Especially being so far down the road in its product cycle.

We got the car back about a month ago, so far so good, it looks like they got it sealed up, as I have not noticed any leaks. The problem was there was no seam sealer on the passenger side along the hatch area and also on the roof under the moulding. They had to seal almost the entire seam on the passenger side and repaint that area. I'm very disappointed and complained to the dealer about it, feeling that Ford should do something to make this right. I'd like to have an extended warranty, so I don't have to be concerned about other potential quality issues that I can't see, but that was denied. I've been a loyal Ford owner for 32 years now, but this has changed my view of the brand and of my dealer. My parents purchased a new 2015 Edge over the winter and i've noticed that it also has several places where the seam is bulged out and will most likely leak, so it will be going back to their dealer for them to fix it too. I don't know if any Ford rep's monitor this site anymore, but if they do, please take note that Ford NEEDS TO WORK ON QUALITY! . We get intersted people asking about the car, but after this and being ignored by Ford, i find it difficult to recommend they visit a Ford dealer.

On day 18, without my cmax now. The body shop has claimed they found multiple places that it was leaking and has sealed them up. Some were under the black trim strip on the roof, under the hinge on the rear hatch, and a seam below that on the right side. Just waiting on the body shop to return it to my dealer.

update: The Ford dealer found the problem. A seam on the right side, under the hatch, was where the water was getting in. They sent a picture to Ford and they said that it appears as if the factory didn't put a gasket in that should have been there. So off to the body shop to get it fixed and repainted. I'm so angry about this. I've been a Ford guy all my adult life, and I halfway would've expected this in the 80's, but it's completely inexcusable now. Yes they are fixing it, but now I'm wondering what else they didn't do. $32,000, and I'm having bodywork redone with 1500 miles on it. I'm sure ours isn't the only car either. I still need to fill out the owner survey, and it's not going to be nice, nor will I recommend anyone buy a Ford. This car is too far into its product lifecycle to have this kind of problem. At this point I'd probably just get my money back if that we'rean option, which it won't be. So all you Cmax owners out there, you might want to examine your body seams, because you might have the same isues.

It's definitely not washer fluid, it's water from steady rain. When the car is parked on the street and angled toward the passenger side, the water leaks in through the right hand side battery vent opening an pools up on the interior plastic panel. Very disappointing, since it's only two months old. I hope the dealer can figure it out. I'm not filling out my survey until it's resolved. If it weren't for that vent I wouldn't have noticed it.

I just bought a 2016 cmax and I have water leaking in through the air vent above the batteries in the hatch area. Anyone else noticed this? I'm getting it into the dealer next week.
