  1. I still think it is only practicable for around town driving compared to Hybrid. I don't think it would get as good MPG's  on trips and I can't justify the loss of trunk space. IMO

The Energi does very well as a hybrid.  I've been using my Energi almost exclusively for long distance trips and my MPGe is about 46 right now after more than 6000 miles in about two months of ownership.  It also has plenty of cargo room for 1-2 people for trips.  If you had kids in the back seat, I think either might be tough to get by for the cargo space.

  2. Today is my Maxus first birthday according to Ford Etis.  Live long and prosper.  First year no problems requiring service other than upgrades.  Good job Ford.

It's nice to know of someone without problems.  Often, it seems like owners post problems and it seems like everyone is having a problem.l

  3. I like the navigation on the C-Max.  Many cars won't let you set a destination while driving.  I find this annoying as a passenger.  I want to set the navigation.  The Ford let's you do it.  However, if you use the touch screen too much while the car is in motion, it does disable it and states "features have been disabled for your own safety" - or something like that.

  4. I have found that it is more traffic and stops than SOC at the beginning of the trip.

Having a high charge on the battery is not a great help in a residential area as the speeds are low and you burn up that charge without a lot of miles to show for it. Being able to cruise through green lights and not having to push hard because the guy behind me wants to go 10 over the limit are much bigger factors.

My commute is only 7 miles. As many of you know, a longer trip with 40-45MPH speed limits will greatly raise mileage. Sometimes I have had to run errands after work which drag the overall trip to 15 or 20 miles. In those situations 60 MPG is not difficult to achieve.

Is there an elevation change as Frank mentioned?  It can make a big difference.  It would be best to keep data on the roundtrip to rule out elevation as a factor.  It would be interesting to see how much temperature affects mpg.  It is interesting to see how much it varies though.

  5. Jus, are you still using premium fuel as stated in an earlier post?  Does it improve mpg sufficiently to justify the somewhat higher price?  I finally bought an Energi and have started experimenting with fuel efficiency.  It's interesting to me that the EV miles are very large with some tanks, like yours with 833.8 miles.  This also means that when you use gas, the mpg is quite low.  Your 833.8 mile trip had just 13.32 mpg when excluding EV miles.  The average is just 21.56 mpg when excluding EV miles for the 600+ club.  With EV Later or the "plug-in" battery discharged, Energi owners should need similar if not identical methods to improve mpg.  Anyway, I've read a lot of your posts and can finally start trying it out with my Energi.  Thanks for the information. :)

  6. This seems pretty unfair for the people who have been waiting months for the C-Max they ordered. :cry:Here's a dealer in Fairfield, CA with over a dozen of them on the lot and a truck just came to deliver more. It almost makes you wonder if Ford is deliberately focusing on sending their allocations to places with warmer weather and making the people in colder areas wait until it warms up to reduce the amount of negative publicity from owners complaining about low gas mileage.

This isn't correct.  My blog is misleading.  I posted this blog in October but added other photos that would be useful to those investigating the panoramic sunroof yesterday.  The dealer in Fairfield didn't just receive a shipment.  That statement was from October, 2012.  I'm changing the date back to the original publication date.
