  1. I'm a boxer and have a little pair of gloves with colors of Mexico hanging from my rear view mirror. Never had a problem. :)

It isn't necessarily a "hybrid" thing.  Last Christmas vacation I had an 18 wheeler pull up on the tail of my Flex and flash his lights and honk for me to move over.  This was at 1AM in the morning at the merge of the the Florida Turnpike and I-75N where there are four lanes!  I was in the third lane from the left with my cruise set at 75MPH...  There was nothing in the two lanes to my left, or the one on my right, and I mean nothing even faintly close.  I just turned off the cruise and let my Flex start slowing down until he decided to pull around me.   Just south of Ocala  FHP had the idiot pulled over, I honked and put my window down and gave the trooper a thumbs up in the hope that it might help convince him to cite the "professional" driver who was acting like an idiot and speeding.

The best "cure" I've had for tailgaters was the windshield washers on a mid 90's Chevy pickup.  When driving at highway speeds if I "washed the windshield" about two thirds of the washer fluid blew over the cab and landed on the car behind me.  The "blue goo" spray caused many a tailgater to back off... :)   Maybe I need to realign the rear window windshield washer on the C-Max.... ;)

When I had my 2005 Colorado pickup I used to drive in the right hand lane at 55mph on my daily commute.  I made a sign for the back window that said:

"I drive slow to conserve gas, pissing you off is just a bonus!".

Many drivers would give me a thumbs up and a big smile as they passed me.

I think I may have to make a sign for the back of the C-Max.

All are gems worth a smile before or after getting on the freeway.

It may not be safe to drive 65 on a southern Ca freeway when traffic is flowing, but no one can make you drive over it.  I am good with 62.  I get uncomfortable trying to maintain 55 when cars ar going 80.  It just feels wrong.  Maybe I need a zinger MPG bumper sticker too.

  2. Again bull - it is a piece of hardware, hardware can be fork lifted out and replaced with a full functioning piece - if it is as claimed this can be a explanation on the dead batteries and other electrical issues that have been reported. Be the same - if the software cannot be updated because of this, then it is defective and should be replaced with the newer version that is shipped with the newer cars and already have the new update. This is the 4th big fallacy that is being told

    Absolutely.

The is shouldn't even be open for discussion by FMC or a dealer.  If the hardware can't load or run the software than it is defective and falls under the bumper to bumper 3year 36k fix or replace deal we signed up for buying a new car from dealer.

  3. I got my Max on 2/2/13.  I am in Costa Mesa.   I know that a few members on the Energi site have attempted flashes at the dealership and were disappointed with the results.  I will get up to Villa Ford, where I purchased the car in the next month or two for the TSB if I can verify that members here or on the Energi site can actually get their systems updated with a the newest and hopefully not too buggy version.

Hope that some pre 2/6  build owners have success with the 3.5.1 reimage before I make a fruitless dealership run where no useful information is gleaned and time is wasted.

Yep.  Ford needs to make it work with the Hybrid and Electric vehicles that have just been and are now being brought to market.  Making it work mean putting the right face on and the best foot forward to ensure postive ownership experiences and market feedback in the form of our relevant user beta.

  4. Thanks.  It helps.  I have been trying to get my finesse Karate kick down, but I still get the clunk trunk.  No big deal.  It was bothering me at first, but I am sure a software fix will arrive for the sleeper cell.

I was a bit scared by ceemax71's post about there being no flash for pre 2/6/13 build date cmaxes.   His post said the the 3.5.1 version will not stick in the earlier builds.  If this is true than I assume it is a hardware issue for the earlier builds that IMO needs to be replaced in good faith, because the software is rather hard to manage and prone to frozen screens and reboots. with or without devices in the USB ports.

Again, hopefully a good software patch will cure the ills.

  5. Not sure if its the Ipod classic or I just need the flash, but my hands free nav is a non syncing stinker.   Freezes screens and has blacked out and rebooted during navigation a couple of times.    I guess I need to go and try to get flashed.  I also have a kick liftgate that has a 1 in 3 failure rate when it just unlocks.

Car is awesome despite the problems with the liftgate/nav package.   Hoping the right software/firmware Ford team can give us some coding that will be the ultimate fix.

  6. If you go above $100 and want a cord go PORTER-CABLE with a Lowe's coupon found in post office change address packets.

My Friend used the big DeWalt when he was a pro.  He used it for fiberglass RVs.  I borrowed his DeWalt and Bonnets for my huge Glass Shell on my 8' F 1-150 Mongo Shell, before gas prices took that guzzler the way of the great Auk and the dinosaurs.  I miss the truck and the shell.  I had fishing rods and surfboards hanging from its ceiling.   DeWalt was awesome for that oxidized white gelcoat, but way too beastly for our little Cmaxes.

If you want a cheap rechargable cordless waxer buffer that can do minor paint repairs (small scratches and dull paint areas) with a bit of cutting compound and a pad, this one is great with an extra SM Arnold pad or two if you can find it online for around $40:

I got a white car after owning a few midnight blue and black cars.  I have grinded, sanded and polished a few surfboards with Milwaukees and used the above mentioned DeWalt, but honestly those are powerful sander/grinder/buffers that require a very light touch.  I prefer to stay on the turds and regularly wash and wax, because I am afraid of burning through the paint when trying to correct a blem with a high speed unit.   They really require professional level skills to avoid taking off the clearcoat or worse.

  7. I am still debating the two.  Good to know that the slightly more difficult CURT install was without hiccups.  How long did it take you?

I have purchased a couple of Curts from etrailer, but I noticed autoanything has a 15%off coupon.

The Curt's install pdg is way better than the hidden hitch/draw tite instructions.   The only thing I don't like about the Curt other than the 1.25" vs TORKLIFT 2" is that Curt requires the use of stabilizer straps on the 1.25" hitches or the warranty is voided when using it as a cargo or bike hauler rather than for a trailer.

That said I have had CURTs on a Prius and an xB and never used straps for my bike rack and never had an issue.  I also trailer an AL trailer for fishing kayaks, but without a wiring harness that will wait.

Is the Curt discrete?  Says it is concealed and looks to be so on the MFG's PDF.

Sensors are a combo on the bottom and rear on the bumper.   Sorry to hear about your Sandyfied fit.  Congrats on the Cmax, does it compare at all in fun to drive factor with the Fit?

  8. I was disappointed that Ford decided not to added the privacy glass (tinted windows) to the rear windows as was done on my three previous Fords. Either way I decided to have them tinted and here are the results. I went with Suntek CXP 35% on fronts and 18% on the rears and back window. If you've tinted your C-Max lets see the pics and don't forget to mention what percentage tint you used.

Looks nice.   Wish CA would let us go darker on the front sides.  Seems like a large percent of the drivers in SoCal do it anyways.   I am thinking or doing limo tint on the hatch and rear sit windows and whatever is legal on the front sides.

  9. That guy is on crack. I drove down Box Canyon Rd from the 118 this morning and thats a much, much tighter road than Mt. Baldy. That has some really, really nice inclines and the beauty of that road is that it links the 118 to the 101 and I swear, I barely used any gas, mostly EV, gotta luv the hybrids. I have also driven up to the top of MtBaldy when it was not snowed in so I know both roads. In regards to body roll, theres nothing there. It cornered and braked extremely well, no loss of brake feel at all. Tight and good feel sterring and its the 2nd time I have taken Max down this road and I just luv it, LUV IT!

Now, its not as much FUN as driving Box Canyon in my Jaguar but thats not apples to oranges. I see he quotes a 0-60 figure and provides none of his own assessment, unlike Dan at mpgomatic.com.

Another dumba$$, short and stupid review imo.

Tighter hairpins than Mt. Baldy road?  I gotta check that out some weekend.

ER, I share your pain! I'm in Michigan and we're experiencing the coldest week of the winter.....-9* -- +9* this week. I was using the remote start, bun warmers, defroster....everything! That, plus a few shorter than usual trips, and letting my husband drive a few times, will have me at my lowest mpg yet...probably 31 average for this tank. But I'm not in the least worried. I saw what it can do in warmer temps the weekend of the 12th when we had 50+. I love my C-Max right now, but I know the best is yet to come!

Keep the Faith!  With the comfort and handling, wife and I will be happy with the low to mid 50s here in SoCal.

  10. I would have thought you would see big jump up at 62mph being able to go into EV good percentage of the time. I know I can stay in EV at 63mph and at least get 50mpg with covers at 70deg.F.  I also think CMAX would catch up with PriusV by 50mph.

Wife and I drove ours today and were getting around 45mpg at 65.  Time will tell.  Hopefully posters hear will dial in this little max's sweet spot,  My 06 prius was usually 41.  If I was heavy footed it was 38,  Best tank was 56 - limited by several days with 40mph limits in YNP and then a cruise back to ID.  75mph =40mpg max in a Gen II prius for me.

Good to be back in a Ford,  sold my 92' twin tanked F-150 5.0L due to gas prices in 06 going to $3.25 and getting sick of filling the two 20 gallon tanks.  Hope this little sucker works out.  Seems to be a tight engineered lil' eurominvan with very high qc.

  11. Got it, installed easily, works fine. Very low profile - hitch fits entirely behind the bumper, only the (1 1/4") receiver is visible. Works with kick-activated liftgate opening, but I think the sensitivity is a bit reduced. No impact on rear proximity sensors (unless you have your bike rack mounted of course).

Thanks for being the first.   I am looking at the same hitch following your lead.  Any issues with it to mention?

Gotta have at least the hitch for a bike carrier.  I can stuff shortboards in the max, not sure if I am going to drill landing pads for racks, it is hard to get past messing up the roofline for me.

Hatch foot sensors still ok with hitch?

  12. HI folks,

Just picked up a Cmax Energi in Oxford white.   Great little car, however I am worried about the dead 12volt threads.  I hope Ford has figured out what the drain is and fixing it for all us U.S./Canada first gen early adopters.

Looks like these forums might need a bit of categorization?   Hope to share lots of information regarding this exciting new vehicle with you.

    Regards,
    Brig
