OK, I just towed the C-Max yesterday and turning on the heat or A/C does keep the ICE running. I have yet to try pushing the pedal all the way to the floor, but will try that soon. Thanks to all who gave me their thoughts.

I will experiment on these 2 ideas. It is just surprising the manual does not make mention of this issue. Thanks again for the suggestions.

I must be missing something here. I know you may need to depress the pedal to the floor to start the ICE, but if I depressed it for 1 minute the RPM would increase too high. Let me rephrase my question. I depress the pedal to start the ICE running. Then I take my foot off the pedal. What sometimes happens is the ICE stops running before the 1 minute is up (sometimes only 15 seconds) and is operating on the battery. I believe I am supposed to let the ICE run for 1 minute. I hope this clarifies my question. Thanks for trying to help.

I have not spent a lot of time on this forum, but yes, I did pick up the C-Max (Titanium) in Montana last May. I must say that I love the car. The visibility is one big advantage. I must also add that my other car is a 2017 PriusV. I am to old to be hot rodder, so how quick a car is off the line is not important to me. Both cars have ample power in my book. I prefer driving the C-Max, but that might be because of all the technology the C-Max has. I should have ordered the Prius the same way. Never too old to learn.

Yes, I understand that, but what happens is the ICE shuts down after about 15 seconds. The question is, how do I keep it running.

I tow my 2018 C-Max and have a question no one seems to be able to answer. The manual says that one needs to start the car each morning (when towing) and let the engine run for 1 minute. That sounds great, but after about 15 seconds, the ICE (internal combustion engine) shuts down changing to hybrid mode thereby not allowing me to run it for 1 minute. How doing I keep the ICE running?

I have a 2017 Prius V and ordered a 2018 C-Max. Although I will be the primary driver of the C-Max and my wife the Prius, it will be interesting to see how the mileage compares.

Why all the Prius Bashing. A little defensive? I bought my first Prius in 2017, put 115K miles on it and the only service I had done were oil changes. My history with Ford has been problematic. I bought a 2012 Focus because I can flat tow it behind my motorhome which is on an E450 chassis. The focus has had major transmission clutch work done 3 times and my motorhome had it's engine removed to replace valve guides due to service bulletin about excessive oil consumption. Then, the transmission blew. I never did like the Focus, but there are not many options that are automatics you can flat tow behind a motorhome. I recently found out that you can flat tow a C-Max, so I bought one that was in route to Montana from Michigan. That was the first week of March and I am still waiting it's arrival. Now I am being told it will arrive toward the end of the month. We will see.
