  1. Thanks everyone for your replies. Will read further for tips to counteract the cold engine temp and the 89 octane fuel. The seasonal graphs are great. Her commute is 45 miles round trip, with speeds on county roads averaging 45 mph. The 54mpg-to-date is over 6400 miles since May 2018. She's spoiled now! This summer she made a few trips on Chicago area expressways where 70-80 mph is the norm - and mileage drops accordingly.
  2. This is our first season of cool weather driving. My wife is noticing a drop in mileage despite maintaining the same 40 psi tire pressure and minimal use of the heater. What steps can we take to improve mileage when temps drop below 40 F degrees? She's spoiled with a 54mpg average!
  3. The 2018 we bought in May was one of three dealer courtesy vehicles they has with about 2,200 miles on the clock. The lease incentive was great. They have one left which is surprising, and one new model, both in white. One or two blue ones the dealership had ordered sold quickly - though it's been a rare color to spot on the road.
  4. I've been using the Lucas product this summer in our Subaru 2.5 litre turbo engines that are prone to misfire codes. It calmed everything right down.
  5. Two events close to us in the Chicago area look like for plug-in EV's only. No love for hybrids or 700+ mile range?
  6. I thought some German cars have 12v batteries under the back seat. It's not unheard of to find them in the cabin.
  7. The 51.9mpg average is my wife's 2018 SE. We've been using 89 octane in hot weather, but the first fill was 93. I suppose we could try a tank of 87 to see what happens.
  8. If we only had a brash national leader who would let people have it: "To all you stupid mopes who can't follow instructions, don't research your purchases, and have no common sense - blaming others will no longer be tolerated". One can hope.
  9. Wish the announcement had said "Ford Hybrid vehicles are not affected since they do not use charging cables to obtain their 700+ mile range".
  10. There could be a clunk sound if a link is broken, but the other failure is when one or more of the joints get tight and bind. So instead of smooth articulation of the suspension you feel an undulation. Just repaired two rear end links in a different car as I mentioned, and problem solved. One side had normal range of motion while the other side was bound up. Just a suggestion to check - cheaper than struts, too.
  11. We get the same reaction. "C-Max - what is that?" Then my wife shares her consistent 730 mile range (after 4400 miles of ownership) and you can see their interest perk up. Granted, our MPG is better than average, but it's attainable. Fuelly shows there are thousands of owners in the 42+ MPG camp. What will Ford or Lincoln have for us when our lease expires in 2.5 years?
  12. Sway bar links are the first wear items to check, especially when you mentioned a diagonal motion. Just replaced rear links on a different car (with 155,000 miles) and handling is tight again.
  13. I'll have to try the ANC disconnect.
  14. I was on the phone with our insurance agent today and mentioned my wife's 730 mile range. She could not believe our 55mpg-65mpg mileage and wanted to share C-Max info with everyone in the office. I didn't have the heart to say 2018 is the final production. They were equally excited to explore the Fuelly app.
  15. Our 2018 is very quiet overall - better than we expected for the price. Although yesterday with both rear windows cracked open for ventilation there as a "buffeting" / drumming sound that was unbearable until I closed one of the rear windows. It almost sounded like it was being amplified, too. Our other cars are more tolerant of having rear windows down a few inches.
  16. Congrats. We hope you love your C-Max as much as we do!
  17. Our dealership has five new 2018's in stock, and one courtesy vehicle with ~2000 miles.
  18. We bought Smartliners on ebay for the front only. Coverage extends up behind the pedals on the left side / dead pedal area. Perfect fit. In the rear, we have Ford's all-weather mats we negotiated for at time of purchase.
  19. What is the pattern of advertising and promotion over the same period? Or the pattern of incentives. Not sure you can talk about demand and unit sales without considering those variables.
  20. Unrelated to C-Max, I heard of a dealer that had stockpiled parts for replacing FOCUS dual-clutch units that were faulty. Techs had perfected the job to a mere 2.5 hours. Practice makes perfect
  21. I saw a story that the Fusion may continue as a Subaru Outback style of vehicle. We've wanted a Fusion wagon since forever. Would love to see the C-Max powertrain in that vehicle.
  22. Congrats! We've been reluctant to drive anything else since owning two 2005 Legacy GT turbos.
  23. How do you feel about leasing versus purchasing? With $6,000 in total incentives we found a good 3-year lease deal on a 2018 SE. We've also purchased cars and kept them for 10+ years, but thought with technology changing a lease made sense (at 15,000 miles per year). Numbers aside, we really love our C-Max. Good luck with your search!
  24. My wife's 2005 Subaru Legacy GT Limited 2.5L turbo manual averaged 24mpg. Her 2018 C-Max is averaging 50.2mpg for the same 45-mile commute.
