Yeah, the turning circle's pretty big. I don't remember any other Focus-based models being quite this way. And I don't recall reading about Euro C-Maxes having this issue, I think it's a specific setup for the NA C-Max Hybrid/Energi.

Tapping power for a dashcam
takingittothemax replied to David McC's topic in Accessories & Modifications
I have my dashcam powered by the 12V socket in the center console bin. The camera came with a super long USB cable and a 12V socket adapter. I tucked the cable under the ceiling trim, along the trim for the A-pillar, along the seal in the footwell and under the carpet protector. Tomorrow I'll take a photo/s for you. -
Can we change to "Energi member" ?
takingittothemax replied to stolenmoment's topic in Forum Suggestions and Help
@stolenmoment If you're interested in, I can photoshop an Energi badge onto your avatar. I'm afraid that's the best we can do until it's enabled further up the food chain. -
Greetings, and an Initial Question...
takingittothemax replied to Still_FORD_For_Me's topic in Welcome
It's a C segment car, that means it's around the same size a Focus, Golf or Corolla. Ford used this naming convention for many of its Euro minivans. There was a B-Max based on the Fiesta. They also had the larger Galaxy based on the Mondeo/Fusion. There was a sportier "coupe" version of that called the S-Max, presumably because it's sporty. Either of those should've been the E-Max. -
So this problem popped up a few months ago, and with a lot going on I haven't really had time to try and fix it. Our 2014 SEL Hybrid has the MyFordTouch system with Sony audio. 85-90% of the time when I put it in reverse, nothing comes up on the screen. If I'm in reverse long enough, it will will usually tell me "Camera is unavailable. Please contact your dealership." Sometimes the camera will work fine a bit, and then cut out. (This most often happens when I don't need it, of course!) And other times, the camera image is upside down or the camera works fine but the guiding lines that turn with the steering wheel don't work. There's been a few posts of late about camera issues, so I'm guessing it's not an isolated incident. Has anyone been able to fix their camera in the past? Is it just a case of removing the camera unit and cleaning the wires/unit, or replacing it? And how does one remove the camera to check it out? Thanks!

C-Max suspension/handling upgrades
takingittothemax replied to Ymbiz's topic in Brakes, Chassis, Park Assist & Suspension
Nice! I love the look of the C-Max with ST wheels. I've been thinking of doing that upgrade, but (you know) money and fuel economy. Actually, how is your mileage after going to the ST wheel and tire combo?- 12 replies

Oh man, glad you're okay. Really loved the look of your C-Max Hybrid 'ST'. Sad to see it totalled. Let us know how it goes insurance and finding a replacement!

I had the same issue with the 2014 that I bought second hand. As SnowStorm suggested, I got mine through wrecking yard. Check out https://www.car-part.com/ it lists parts from lots of wrecking yards nationwide.

Who is going to jump to the Escape Hybrid?
takingittothemax replied to markd's topic in General Discussion
So happy for you. Finally! Keen to hear your impressions (both initial and longer term). And look at all that trunk space! The Ford hybrids/PHEVs of the C-Max's era were so poorly packaged. -
Glad to have you here. How much did you spend on your transmission fix? Did go down the salvage route?

Anyone thinking of a Maverick Hybrid?
takingittothemax replied to takingittothemax's topic in General Discussion
Oh, yeah. The press release says it has an "in-house-designed and manufactured electric traction motor". The release also mentions a CVT. I'm still suspecting it's the same eCVT setup as before, but I could very well be wrong. Both the Escape and Maverick will have a 2.5L Atkinson cycle 4-cyl. The Escape makes a total of 200hp, while the Maverick will only have 191hp. Escape Hybrid is FWD or AWD, while the Maverick Hybrid is FWD only. -
Anyone thinking of a Maverick Hybrid?
takingittothemax replied to takingittothemax's topic in General Discussion
Given that the drivetrain will be shared with the Escape, it'll be an eCVT. Journalists just write CVT as shorthand for a stepless transmission even if it's a Ford/Toyota style eCVT. -
Ford just launched the Maverick pickup this morning. Based on the Bronco Sport and Escape, it has a unibody structure (unlike the Ranger and F-150). It starts at just under $20k with a standard FWD 2.5 liter hybrid (2 liter turbo is optional with FWD or AWD). Given the starting the price, I'm expecting the interior quality to be more like the EcoSport than our C-Maxes.

What year used C-Max should I buy for elderly Dad
takingittothemax replied to Pinkstar8's topic in Welcome
There was potential transmission problems with earlier models. These were fixed with cars built August 2015 and later. I'd suggest an SEL or a model equipped with a reversing camera. Makes parking a lot easier. Also has the bigger screen. Not sure if all SELs have powered tailgates, but if you can find a car with one, it helps a lot. -
Who is going to jump to the Escape Hybrid?

I think the supply chains and tech for mass scale chip building are mainly in China & Taiwan. It would take a lot of time, effort and skilled labor to bring that to the US. Apple wanted to do something like that for the Mac Pro, but the didn't. In the end they just did final assembly in the US. -
Glad to have you here! And glad that you like your C-Max. As an ex-New Yorker & still living on Hudson, I see quite a few C-Maxes around. The S-Max is Mondeo based, while the C-Max is based on the Focus. If Ford had brought the Grand C-Max or S-Max to the US, it would've been just the right size for us, but the C-Max is brilliant for city living as it can squeeze into spots a lot of other cars can't fit into! Also, side note, the S-Max is now available in Europe with a 2.5-liter hybrid! 2021 Ford S-Max Hybrid, Galaxy Hybrid: Dying MPVs go out green (betweentheaxles.net)

Any advice on Hybrid Battery warranty replacement, how to tell?
takingittothemax replied to bigapplempv's topic in Batteries
I live right next to NYC, and when I first got my 2014 SEL Hybrid (second hand last year), I too had the gas engine starting up every dang time even when I just needed to move the car to other side of the street for street cleaning on a nice warm day. My problem was that I had EV+ enabled. This feature detects when you're near home, and switches the car to all EV mode. Which is nice and all, but it often meant my battery went from 3/4 full to 1/4 because when I'm near home, I have to stop every 1000ft for a traffic light or stop sign. After I turned EV+ off, the car HVB is often 1/2 to 3/4 full when I get back to a parking spot near home. That way if it's not too cold out, and I just need to move my car a few spaces or down the street, I can do it without the engine starting. -
Is the GA 2017 C-Max an SE or Titanium? Still the price difference isn't usually that big.
-
For me, my mileage is at its best in spring and fall when its warm enough to drive around without the heater and cool enough to do without A/C.
-
Used car prices are up everywhere due to high new car prices, and chip shortage production problems. I'm still amazed at how cheap gas is here in the US. I regularly pay $2.75/gal. Back in my homeland, prices were more like US$4/gal or more.
-
Yowsers! $21.5k!

Not long after I first got our C-Max Hybrid a year ago, I managed to do just over a mile purely in EV. This was primarily down hill, and with a stop sign or traffic light every few hundred feet (I live in the city). Yesterday, whilst taking the kid home from the park, I nearly made it all the way home without using any gas. It would've been all EV, but I had a small section right near home where I had someone behind me and the road was slightly uphill.

How long have you had your car? Did you get new tires or have the car serviced?
