  1. I actually thought this thread was going to be about how to park to save gas. So by the way, I park where I pull through so I don't have to back up to get out. I also go out of my way to park in the shade which saves on air conditioning. If there are preferred spots, I would rather save them for senior citizens and handicapped people and people with small children.
  2. Basically I don't know the answer to that, however, one concern I have are those 2 and 3 and 4 mile drives I make to the store or to pick up pizza. I usually get 30 something miles/gallon. If the engine is warmed up faster via running rather than via intake louvers being closed, I am thinking those short trip mpg might take a hit.
  3. FYI, http://www.komonews.com/news/consumer/Report-Hybrids-coming-up-short-in-delivering-promised-gas-mileage-215761301.html
  4. Thanks. That works for me. http://www.motorcraftservice.com/vdirs/retail/default.asp?pageid=cat_1&gutsid=productdetail&kevin=rules By the way, I was unable to get it to display right under linux using chrome or mozilla, under XP I was able to use Internet Explorer, though not under google chrome. Under XP, not linux, I got this popup. "We support browser Internet Explorer version 5.5 and above. Netscape, America On-Line (AOL) or other browsers are not supported by this site."
  5. That's the right way to do it. Thanks. Such a manual would probably also give some advice if it were possible to remove the back panel on the hatchback door. Maybe I will do that but the $170 is pricey and I wish it were downloadable - I don't like waiting, and I don't like that it is only Windows compatible though that is not a show stopper. I found where to rent online service information from a Ford approved site HOWEVER it is NOT AVAILABLE for the CMAX. DAMN. 10.95 for 72 hours, 19.95 for a month (also other options, like to get TSBs) Perhaps in the future it will be available for the CMAX. http://www.helminc.com/helm/ford_osi.asp?Style=helm The manual costs $170. Tempting. http://www.helminc.com/helm/Result.asp?Style=helm&Mfg=FMC&Make=FRD&Model=CMAX&Year=2013&Category=15&Keyword=&Module=&selected_media=
  6. I tried to install a third party license plate back up sensor on my C-MAX SE. It seemed like a very easy install until my plan of unscrewing the back panel of the hatchback door was thwarted because it's not screwed on. The back panel has clips that do not seem to come off, some seem totally inaccessible. So it seems like it is a rip off once removal - then buy a new one(Hope I am wrong). I am disappointed. Attached is a picture of one of the clips. And even bigger disappointment was I tried to pry off the latch to open the hatchback door to look up there. Now it doesn't attach on one side. And I never did get it off to look in there. I am thinking some silicone rubber to give it a more solid feel and keep water out. I am thinking installing the sensors in the bumper may be the way to go. (and perhaps looking into having it done.) Otherwise I will have to drill big hole(s) in the back panel which I could do with a Drummel. I would need a hole to get the wire from the license plate sensor attached to the reverse light. The license plate sensors do not seem to have as good a reputation as the bumper ones. Perhaps even a backup camera would be an easier install. I would appreciate any thoughts, for I find it hard to gauge back of car distance.
  7. My last vehicle, which I owned for over 14 years had a sunroof. My biggest complaint was I would forget to close it. And one time there was a heavy rain. Not good. I hope the newer vehicles have some auto-close thing.
  8. 44 HWY may be more realistic in my experience but EPA is not about realistic, it is about a test that gives some approximation of realistic with specific rules to follow so apples can be compared to apples. They just went with numbers from the EPA test. ( Unlike Hyundai which from what I gather did not do the test right. ) And with the numbers the marketing people might have seen an opportunity to stick it to Toyota and they did. (By the way, am not a fan of those Toyota marketing commercials about Prius for everyone. I am glad to have bought a car that puts Americans to work.) So my vote is no. And I agree, that C-Max presentation is a nice find.
  9. So what kind of mileage do you get on the C-Max, and for comparison, what kind of mileage do you get on other cars ? Is it suburban/city/highway driving ? How are the tires holding out ? Thanks.
  10. From http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/2130-c-max-romance-andor-sleeping-tips-and-tricks/?hl=romance obob, on 01 Jun 2013 - 03:15, said: I and several others have noticed this. I'm guessing it's the C-Max performing fuel system evaporation leak test(s). These apparently need to be done after the car sits awhile so there is no pressure inside the fuel system. There's some mention of these tests here (http://fordcmaxhybri...ne-light/page-4) that may help. Edited by Bill-N, 01 June 2013 - 11:27 AM.
  11. I have a T135-90R15 which is also smaller. ( Is that 70 a typo or is that the size of your spare?) I tested it on the front with traction control off and it pulled on braking(I assume because it is turning faster). If I had time I would only use the spare on the back, but having tested it, I could it use short term up front being extra alert on braking. Jamming on the brakes could be really bad. If I were to do it again I would try to find a better fitting tire. I also carry a flat fix kit and an inflator. The manufacturer installed fix kit seems expensive and time consuming to me. By the way, that spare looks in really good condition and a great deal for $18.
  12. "There is little difference in energy content of regular versus premium gasoline. They both contain about 111,400 British Thermal Units of energy per gallon" from http://www.consumerenergycenter.org/transportation/consumer_tips/regular_vs_premium.html
  13. When bought my car I kind of assumed Ford would offer an upgrade to the software that effects mileage, but now I am thinking that will not happen because of the cost to them, not just the cost of the upgrade but handling the side effects of the upgrade whether real or imaginary.
  14. I would appreciate hearing about where/how you are going to get leather seats for $1000. Thanks.
  15. So is this update for all C-Max owners or just ones that have had a problem or manufacturing date specific or what ? I have been lax about calling my dealer. My phone doesn't sync except for when it is first added. Thanks in advance.
  16. If I were testing a pump I would get a container, put some gas in it, doesn't have to be 5 or 10 gallons, then multiply the number of gallons by the density of gasoline and then weigh the container with the gas and subtract out the weight of the container and see if the numbers match. And then multiply the price per gallon by the number gallons to see of that comes out to the pump price. ( then pour it into my tank with the handy dandy funnel. )
  17. Thanks. So it is kind of like shifting to a lower gear on a conventional transmission to slow the car down.
  18. How would the ICE burn the charge? I would have expected there to be some resistor that gets switched into when the battery is full like if you have it on hill assist, or they just have you use the brakes. I have been wondering about this. There is a trip I take which has a huge climb followed by a huge decent. It's ashame to charge the battery on the way up when it is going to be way charged on the way down.
  19. Perhaps a little over inflation may help in this area as well as in the better mileage area. These low profile tires may be more vulnerable to this sort of thing.
  20. post about WSS-M2c913-c deleted UPDATE: I don't want to mislead anyone. I used the online manual which says something about WSS-M2c913-c oil which I gather is not as good a standard, prehaps older, as the WSS-M2C945-A mentioned in the next post and in the C-Max printed manual.
  21. Your location seems to be a good candidate for a windshield shade.
  22. It was cool so I didn't need the air. A window was cracked. The windows did get steamed up and I was pleasantly surprised how the max defrost evaporated the condensation. Air conditioning sounds like a great idea. My only concern would be carbon monoxide from the exhaust. Seems like an interesting option for a snooze at a rest area if I could aim the exhaust down wind and I could resolve my carbon monoxide concern.
  23. C-Max Romance and/or Sleeping Tips and Tricks How I set things up. Back seats folded down. Pulled front seats forward and tilted them forward. That makes plenty of room for tall people laying down. Tall people can not sit straight up but shorter people can. The draw cover for the back pulls out and can be put up front. I put my spare tire outside. And with the seats forward there is a way to lay down on back with legs bent down in back of the front seats as well as other possibilities. It would be good to have a sheet or cotton blanket to lay down because the rugs kind of have a brush burn risk. The floor is hard. A dense mat would solve that but that seems like too much bulk for me. At one point my friend and I both heard a buzzing/motor sound that lasted about 8 minutes(best guess) with key off. The motor had been off for awhile maybe 45 minutes to 90 minutes. Not sure what it was but it seemed to be coming from the car. I was concerned this was the infamous battery drainer but it did stop. I did turn the key on and off to see if that would stop it but it did not. The C-Max had performance in this area better than I expected. Not as good as a mini-van but mini-van-like possibilities. It's like being in a small tent. (No pictures)
  24. I just ordered the Intro-Tech Automotive Ultimate Reflector from AutoAnything(RedLdr1's link) and they gave me a 19% discount if I ordered it this visit, so I did. ( a red/orange[as I recall] window was up with the discount offer. ) So for people that haven't gotten one and may want to, perhaps you might want to try to get the website to give you the 19% off or call them to try to get the discount. I am not sure if I got the offer because it was my first time, or because I came back after a couple weeks (not sure if I looked at it before, but I do occasionally delete cookies). For those that already bought one, there is a 1-year price guarantee and you may be able to get the 19% off (11.36) sent to you. My total came to 48.56 shipped and I am getting a free steering wheel cover, though I would rather pay less and not get the cover, but maybe it is a great cover. It will ship in a few days. By the way, I just noticed that it may also be possible to get a 3% discount/rebate using Fatwallet.com's fatcash. (too late now for me, but perhaps it would invalidate the 19% off) UPDATE: JULY 3, 2013 I have been using the shade for a while and like it, glad I got it.
  25. There are a lot of cars that have not been tested. "Small overlap front test results No small overlap front tests have been conducted for this vehicle" It may be that they test the most popular ones first. I also noticed that the tests have one result for ford fusion, so I would be surprised if it was the hybrid. Though here is a positive for the Fusion energi http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/2029-ford-fusion-energi-earns-top-vehicle-safety-rating-from-nhtsa/?do=findComment&comment=19484
