Spotted this grey one at Fort Eustis, VA. Couldn't help but pull up next to it in the lot.

How to set up Audible audiobooks for use with SYNC
CMax replied to Riddley's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
Thank you for this. I have a trip across the country coming up in a few months and found that audible is the best way for me to pass the long hours in the car.- 5 replies

I have attached the compatibility chart from Ford that says which functions of sync are available with which phone. I was disappointed to find out that my phone was not on the list for texting, but speaking text messages is probably one more distraction I don't really need anyway. More information on the phones can be found on the Ford site here http://support.ford.com/sync-technology/phone-compatibility-sync Syncphonecompatibility.pdf

Who has 3.1.3 Nav and IT WORKS PROPERLY?
CMax replied to Jus-A-CMax's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
I have 3.1.3 and was having that issue. I brought my car in for the TSB and they ended up having to replace the GPS Module. Got that done on Friday and haven't had issues so far. Still watching the map most of the time while driving and will report back if I have the issue again. I am hopeful that it is fixed for good. -
I misspoke before, it is a GPSM. From what the service folks told me it stands for "global positioning system module". I am looking at my service record and it says: "navigation system not working properly, puts the vehicle slightly off of actual location and then gives incorrect directions. Cause: verified customer concern; ran oasis found TSB 13-3-11; Performed reprogram of GPSM as specified by TSB; Concern still present; performed pinpoint test for concern found to have defective GPSM; Removed instrument panel installed GPSM and performed PMI." The part number is: CJ5Z*10E893*C I also have 3.1.3 and was assuming that until the software update came out I would not be able to use the navigation. I was pleasantly surprised when it started working after this visit. I have been watching it pretty closely over the past few days and it seems to be fixed. (knocking on coffee table). If it stops working again I will be sure to post it.

I got the GPSM module replaced on the 5th and I drove around this weekend playing with the navigation to test it. So far it is working well. I also asked about the 3.5.1 update again while I was there and was told that until it shows up on oasis as a available update for my car there is nothing that can be done.

I had the GPMS unit replaced last friday and my navigation is now showing me where I actually am. I used it quite a bit this weekend and drove around with it just showing the map all day yesterday. It worked like a charm.

I ordered this http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002T0EK64/ref=pe_175190_21431760_M3T1_ST1_dp_1 I thought it was pretty nice to be able to mount it anywhere. I just took the part that held the phone off the old mount and it fits great on the ball connector.

Just got off the phone with USAA, no extra hybrid discount.

Is there a way to see the lifetime summary other than shutting off the car? The only thing I can find in the manual and on the forum is how to reset it. I am quickly turning into a geek about all the stats for my car and would love a way to see the lifetime summary. It would be really nice if there was a statistic screen on the touch screen. Maybe add it to the vehicle settings page on there and add it to the trip screen so if you don't have a touch screen you can still see it.

I have been doing some research on this on the internet and basically what I have found is that the local state police can ticket you according to their states laws. The general consensus from what I have read is that if you don't get an attitude with the police officer they generally won't worry about the tinting. If you google "out of state window tint violation" there are a lot of links to forums and such where people have voiced their opinions and occasionally there is a police officer that voices in on them also. Below is the link to tintcenter.com's blog post about the issue. I am in the military and travel all over the US and am still planning on getting my windows tinted. I have looked at quite a few of the state laws and I think I am going to put 35% on all of the windows behind the driver and 50% on the driver and passenger front windows. I currently live in VA and front windows can't be more than 50% here. I figured that 35% is dark enough to block enough of the light and still meets most states requirements. If I happen to end up somewhere that has more stringent tint laws, I will change it according to their laws just to be on the safe side. http://www.tintcenter.com/blog/2012/02/out-of-state-window-tint-violation/

I asked my dealer that question and was told that the card would be free when I got the upgrade. They wouldn't give it to me before the update was available though.

I am only a week into this keyless thing and about 75% of the time I am reaching to pull the key out of the steering column when park. It feels like walking up the stairs and taking that extra step at the top and it not being there. My 5 year old loves the lock button on the handle though. She has figured out that if she holds her finger on the lock button on the passenger side while I am trying to unlock the door by just putting my hand in the handle on my side... The doors do not unlock. My wife and her were laughing their tails off at my frustration. Happy April fools to them.

Sirius Presets Disappeared on Home Screen
CMax replied to CMax's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
Thank you! I looked around in the other posts, probably missed it. -
While driving to work after lunch I noticed that my presets had disappeared on the Sync home screen. It just showed six empty boxes. It still remembered them because I was able to scroll through them with the steering wheel control, they just didn't show up on the sync home screen. I tried to reset the presets and it still didn't show, restarted the car a couple times, and let it sit for an hour while off to see if it would come back up when restarted. No luck. I did a master reset on the system and it is working now, but I would like to know if this has happened to anyone else and if they had an easier way to fix it. Seems to me that a master reset is a little overkill just to make the buttons show up correctly again.

I got my C-Max on the 23rd of March. White Platinum with 303A and light color interior. White wasn't my first choice, but I got such a deal on the car it would have cost me another 2 or 3 thousand to get a different color. I figured for that price I can live with white. It has only been a little over a week and the white is growing on me pretty quickly. I love almost everything about this car so far. The navigation is a real pain, but it is only a matter of time before Ford gets their act together and fixes the problem and I have been using my phone for long enough to be willing to deal with it for another month or two. This car definitely makes up for it in other ways. One of my favorite things about it is the height of the seats when stepping out. I am 6' 3" and was getting pretty sick of jumping out of my old car and my wife's car. It does feel a little odd to be driving around a new car that has all of this technology in it. I traded in my 2002 Ford Taurus which was a little dated on all the bells and whistles. I kinda miss the cassette deck though, reminded me of being a kid. lol I love watching the lifetime MPG meter go up as I learn to drive the car a little more efficiently and was surprised how horrible my braking habits were. If this is how I was supposed to drive the whole time then it's no wonder I had so many problems with traffic cops when I was a teenager. Thanks to all of the contributors in this forum who helped me decide on the C-Max over a Prius!

Stupid Question -- How do you turn it off?
CMax replied to VirginiaRick's topic in General Discussion
I would say that I only push the brake pedal about half of the time when turning it off. In the mornings I spend a few minutes sitting in my car before getting out and turning it off and I never step on the brake to do it. I haven't noticed anything that stays on affter a minute or two. I spent a couple minutes watching the car one day after I got out and locked the door to make sure all of the gizmos and lights turned off. I understand your frustration with the manual though... I am in the military and some of the manuals that we use have several paragraphs on things like turning around the correct way or how to tie your boots. I chalk it up to the same reason my wife's hair drier has a warning that says I can't use it in the shower. I did, however, make myself feel pretty dumb when for the first day or two I couldn't figure out why the car wouldn't start when I pushed the button. Like every other car I have ever driven I had to push on the brake. I was just so caught up with the technology I forgot something that simple. Doh! -
I am getting the clear one from the dealership installed sometime this week hopefully. (waiting for the new GPS module to come in also) Sounds like the people who have it say it adds enough protection. Has anyone put both the clear and the black one on? I was thinking of doing that just because I like the look of the black one and it doesn't seem to cover enough of the bumper.

Mine has a build date in November and has the navigation problem. I have been bugging the dealership about it and asked about the 3.5.1 update. I was told that until it shows up on oasis "for my specific cmax" there is nothing they can do about it. They couldn't even give me an ETA. I would assume that since it is coming installed on the new ones it shouldn't be too far off. Then again you know what they say about assumptions.

Why Prius drivers drive like that....
CMax replied to Jus-A-CMax's topic in Articles, News & Reviews
I have had mine a little over a week now and before I bought it I thought there was no way I would drive like that... Then I got it. I love video games and driving this car is like a big kids video game. My wife calls me a dork because I get excited when I get 100% brake score or an extra tenth of a percent up on my lifetime Mpg. I make sure not to purposely make anyone mad while driving, but if they want to drive 10 over the limit, they can go around me. I gave up speeding years ago when I had my daughter and finally got all of my teenage tickets off my record, so I am happy to sit at the speed limit and coast along. I find I use cruise control a lot more with this car also, it seems to get better Mpg when I do. The military installation I work on has a top speed limit of 25 MPH, so I love the fact that I can set the cruise to that. My old car wouldn't do it until I hit 30 MPH. With all of the military police who like to pull people over for 1 or 2 over the limit this saves me some worry. I know what you mean with the headlights. It seems to me that the automatic setting waits a little too long to come on. I would love it if there was either a sensitivity setting or daytime running lights.
