    Tire Life

I have a 2013 C-Max Sel. It has 12,000 miles on it. Since my last trip to my dealer I have been recieving emails and mail telling me "tires require immediate replacement". The tires look fine, tread looks fine, I cannot understand. What kind of tire needs replacement after 12,000 miles. Is this normal for the C-Max? What's everyone elses experience been with the Michelin tires? I use this vehicle for picking up my grandkids from school and it has no hard driving on it.
  3. Just purchased my second 2013 C-Max Hybrid SEL today. My daughter has the other one at college. I liked it so much, when I brought my wife's Transit Connect in for an oil change, I asked our friend, a Ford salesman, if he would contact me whenever he got a used C-Max (given the $10,000 depreciation over the first two years, I was not interested in a new one). One came in Saturday and I bought it today. The financial guy tried to sell me on an extended warranty. My daughter's vehicle had 100,000 miles warranty extended by a different dealership (also in our area) which had the vehicle Certified to extended the warranty. This guy said my vehicle has a 60,000 mile, 36 month basic warranty which runs out in 12 months (Carfax was in agreement). I could buy an extended Premium Warranty good for 8 years (6 more years) and 125,000 miles for about 3 grand (bottom line price without loan). When I asked about the 100,000 mile extension on my daughter's C-Max, he said they didn't have time to Certify the vehicle I was buying, that it would add to the cost (about $500), only extend the warranty on the drive train and make the price renegotiable. I took my time declining. I was most concerned about the possibility and cost of hybrid battery replacement. I checked a website on line tonight which stated that Ford warranties hybrid batteries for 100,000 miles. I am looking to verify that now, and the cost of replacement - including installation and core credit, if any, from Ford. I have seen Prius battery replacements quoted at $3000 - over $4000 total price (I have owned 2 Prius over the last 13 years - 2002 and 2007), and the C-Max hybrid battery pack is $3500 just for the parts That might justify the extended warranty, if there isn't already a 100,000 mile warranty on the hybrid battery pack. I can still purchase the extended warranty (but not financed). Is a 6 year/125,000 mile extended Premium Warranty worth 3 grand up front? Any opinions about this?
  4. Going to pick up my new C-Max tomorrow and filled out all paperwork today. Dealership is family run and small with great sales staff and service department. Smooth, painless transaction! HOWEVER... here is the $50,000 question... whether it is "wise" to get the extended warranty? I usually pass on EW unless the car has a dubious repair history. In my old Pontiac Montana, warranty paid for itself in 2 visits. In other cars, never used the darn thing and was out $$. With the complexity and possible expense of both parts and labor in the C-Max... how many of you bought the Ford extended warranty and how many passed??? We were quoted about $3,095 for a 7 year/125,000 mile Premium Care 1000+ warranty with $100 deductible at 0% interest that would add another $46/month to our payments. May not sound like much, but we are on a very tight budget and the payment now is at our comfortable limit. Of course this warranty overlaps the 3/36,000 and other standard warranties (powertrain, hybrid, etc.) that come with the car. We would also receive free oil changes for as long as we own the car (every 5 mos. or 5,000 miles). Usually... I would pass. But concerned with this car as looking at the engine bay... my goodness, we could not even SEE the air filter! Everything there is a mysterious mangle of hoses and wires! It appears the average small mechanic shop would refer us to the dealer for even basic work. That means big $$$ down the road.... Tried to negotiate a cheaper price, but the price was obviously written in stone. Looked online and another dealership touting cheap warranty prices came out even higher for the same warranty. So... need some quick opinions!!! Shake the few last coins from the monthly piggy bank or roll the dice on future repairs?????????
  5. I have a 2013 C-Max SEL that I flat tow (in accordance with the Ford owners' manual) behind my motorhome. 2000 miles into an extended around the country trip the transmission started making grinding bearing noises. I have rented a car and purchased a tow dolly so that I could continue my trip. After taking it to a dealer in St. Louis on 6/27/16, they confirmed that it was transmission failure. They ran it while on the lift and localized the noise, and the fluid contained lots of metallic particles. On 7/7 the service advisor called me and said the dealer was not willing to replace the transmission under warranty because they may be stuck with a $6,000 bill if the factory disallowed the claim. They seemed to be concerned that because I was flat-towing, it could be a issue. The car is well within the term of the warranty (47k miles of the 80k). He suggested that I call the Ford customer care number 800-392-3673, which I did on 7/8. Customer care assigned me a case number and referred me to the regional service manager, Leah Shulga at 866-631-3788, x 53764 I have left numerous voice-mails since then, all following a recording that promised that someone would respond within 4 hours, even though Leah was out of the office last week. I also sent an email summarizing the situation, with only an automated "out of office" response. I have called the customer care number several more times, only to be transferred to the same voice mail... I was promised a call back by close-of-business yesterday, but did not receive one. When I called back yesterday afternoon (7/11), I was told that there was nothing else they could do and everyone had gone home for the day. I asked to talk to the supervisor or manager, and was told "she doesn't take live calls".??? Has anyone experienced this horrible lack of concern? Does anyone have a contact that could help cut through the automated phone system wall? Besides the obvious issues, I have had to modify my trip plan to be able to return to St. Louis at some point to reclaim my car. I live in Georgia, and had planned to travel to Canada and Alaska this summer, both of which are now on hold.
  6. Hi All, I just got my new C-Max today and am very excited. I was obviously offered the opportunity to purchase these extras at "great" prices. I declined them all with the option to buy them all at the same price for a while after purchase. Do you guys think any of these things are worth it. My wife is convinced the alarm for $295 that is "shock sensitive" (supposed to detect 10lbs of pressure applied to the car while locked) is worth purchasing, but I am wary. Also I noticed that my car isn't eligible for the online purchase of these plans so I can't check pricing. Any advice would be much appreciated.
