My wife and I have an SE on an extended test drive this weekend. We had driven an SE from another dealer (wrong color) and things seemed fine, but this one just isn't comfortable. My wife has a back injury so finding a good driver's seat is important and none too easy. Either the seats are built inconsistently or there's some other explanation like break-in. Thanks. I also have a lot of back, hip, pelvic injuries, so car seats are very important to me. The one I test drove felt more like the seats I've sat in while driving the Focus and Fusion. I love those seats. I thought when I agreed to buy this car, that I would get a seat like that. However, I swear, the seat in the car I purchased is more like the seat in my Escape. They are harder. However, I have noticed that I'm getting more comfortable in the seat, so it is possible that, either, I'm getting used to it, or the seat does break in. It also might be temperature related. My Windstar seats were hard in very cold weather, but soft in warm weather. The car I test drove was an SE, but it did not have the MFT. The car I bought is an SE, but it does have MFT. I know that there are some seats that have the soy filler. I wonder if they use a different seat for cars with the MFT than those without. I'm not sure anyone could feel the difference, but it's possible the heated seats have a different cushioning material under the fabric. But for the last few weeks, my middle back has been hurting after sitting for awhile (right side). I don't know if it's the seat, or me. I get the feeling that the lumbar adjustment, which I usually don't use, is not completely deflating. Just a guess. Or maybe the side of the seatback has gotten a little stiffer. It's a quandry. It's a quandry.Make sure you have the seat set at the proper height and distance from the pedals for your body. I find that though I like my seat to be high, it causes strain on my hip and back. When I start out in the morning, no problems, but when I come home after a day of sitting, it gets to me a little. ScubaDadMiami Posted March 11, 2013 Report Share Posted March 11, 2013 I have only test driven an SE. I wish that I had also test driven and SEL to see if there is a difference in seat comfort. The SEL does have the lumbar support and 10 way power adjustment. So, I am guessing that there would be a substantial difference between one model and the other. I hate leather, but I want the electric seat and additional adjustment (plus other things that make it so that I have not choice but to consider leather). Has anybody tried both? asb Posted March 11, 2013 Report Share Posted March 11, 2013 I was put in an SEL Escape rental car. I found the leather seats horrible. They were a lot harder than the cloth seats. GBranyan Posted July 8, 2014 Report Share Posted July 8, 2014 We just purchased a 2014 SE and my wife is finding it hard to get comfortable in the driver's seat. The problem for her is that she feels the front seat edge pushing into the back of her knee. She is 5' 6," so not particularly short. Seems like this seat is longer than average. We will continue to play with the adjustments, but it occurred to me that a lumbar pad would push her forward just a bit and maybe solve this problem.
