KCmax
Just posted some pix to the gallery from the crash I was involved in last Thursday March 7. A car failed to obey a stop sign and T boned me in the middle of the intersection. The impact was right in the drivers side door. I'm so thankful for the great side impact protection the C max has. All of the side air bags deployed. The car was still driveable, but I opted to take advantage of free roadside assistance and have it towed to the Ford dealer. The other driver's insurance company agreed to cover everything. It's been over a week and I still don't know if the car will be repaired or declared a total loss. The adjuster from the other drivers insurance company told me a few days ago that the damgae exceeded $12,000. Apparently if the damage is over $10K a supervisor has to rview the case.I don't know how many other C Max vehicles have been involved in crashes so far, but thought this real life incident would be of interest. RedLdr1
I'm sorry to see that happen, at least the safety features worked and did a good job of protecting you.

You know, my wife went thru the same TBONE with her Jaguar late last year. That SOB failed to look and just turned right into her jaguar - right between the wheel and the drivers side door, the side bars saved my wife's life but shes still undergoing chiro for the soft tissue damaged. That accident knocked out our $30,000 Jaguar Vanden Plas. The kicker was that the driver admitted fault but AAA (the other driver's insurance) reneged on their admission and so its insurance company vs insurance company with no witnesses. However, the physical damage and photos prove it is impossible for my wife to be at fault...that SOB will have bad karma but the truth of the matter is that the other drivers will always lie. Anyway, glad you're OK and I hope you take lots and lots of photos cause that guy or his insurance will turn around the lie, I have no doubt. Good news was that I got the CMax and she's now driving my Jagua Vanden Plas, she luvs the bigger Jags and I don't blame her for trusting that car. PS Stay away from AAA, they are a POS - even offering a measly $1,500 to settle the case. FU AAA. RachelnLa
Holy macrel! I am glad to hear you were not seriously injured!! Nice to know the cmax did an awesome job of protecting you. Look at the other car compared to yours. This reaffirms my decision that purchasing the cmax was a good thing to do.
plus 3 golfer
Sorry to hear. Do you know if OR allows claims for diminished value? Even if the car is repaired to 100%, the resale value of the car has diminished especially since the air bags deployed. It will be a black mark on the vehicles history. I would seek to have the car totaled and be compensated for the cost of a new car less your usage. Good luck.
HannahWCU
Glad to hear your ok. After looking at the pictures, I'm pretty impressed with the C-Max. Glass didn't even break. The other car looks ALOT worse off. RachelnLa

Ryan McEachern
Very sorry about the accident. Interested in your experience with the roof rack. That ladder makes the C-Max look like a pretty flashy work van.

Prayers for a 100% recoveryThanks man, she still has pains from that crash but your prayer are much appreciated :) In regards to AAA, my quam is their ethics but hey, we're talking insurance companies here but I guess in this day and age, it's "whatever" and no more right or wrong. Jbtbga
Looks like the C Max held its' own in the wreck. Glad you are reasonably uninsured. Planning on another C Max if this one is totaled? Edited March 20, 2013 by Jbtbga
KCmax
Sorry it's taken so long to respond, but it took 2 weeks for the insurance companies and their adjusters to work their way though this, and I've spent part of every day since the wreck on the phone with both my insurance company and the other driver's. Just last Thursday it was decided that the C Max is totaled, so I've got the Ford dealer looking for a replacement. My experience with our insurance provider has been overwhelmingly postive. We started with Metro Mile on Jan. 1st, and I could not be happier with them. They have kept me up to date with every development through this long process, and are very responsive when I call or email with questions.Someone asked about the roof rack. I bought the Thule roof rack myself and saved $100 over what the dealer would charge to install one. The rack and the 24' extension ladder were solidly in place after the wreck. One bit of a silver lining in all this is that I get to start all over with a new C Max and am far enough along in the learning curve of driving a hybrid that my mileage numbers should be better this time around ;) JAZ, erwhitham and hybridbear
RachelnLa
KC! So happy things are working in your fav, moving swiftly and LOVE your attitude. Is there anything you'll get or not get on the new one? Same color? How old was the first one?

But shouldn't your car insurance company be on the phone w/ their car insurance company. Why do you have to communicate with the other guy's insurance? Jbtbga
KCmax, Glad this worked out well for you. You are a great person to comment on the break in period. Since you already have acquired hybrid driving skills, it will be interesting if your initial mpg in your new Cmax is the more like your old vehicle towards the beginning of its' short life or at the end of that time. Would appreciate your feedback in time
RedLdr1
Glad to "hear" they totaled your C-Max. Cars that take a hit like that are just never the same if they are repaired. Enjoy your new C-Max! :) Edited March 25, 2013 by RedLdr1
KCmax
So..., I'm no expert in Car crashes, thankfully, I've only ever had one. But shouldn't your car insurance company be on the phone w/ their car insurance company. Why do you have to communicate with the other guy's insurance? My insurance company initially handled the claim, then handed it over to Geico, the other driver's insurance company once Geico accepted that the other driver was at fault, so I dealt with their adjuster. The other driver didn't have sufficient coverage, so then it went back to my insurance so they could take care of me and then go after Geico and the other driver for the balance. My insurane (Metro Mile) stayed in touch with me through the entire process to make sure I was taken care of. Hippie'sMom
Car going 40 struck my parked C-Max and smooshed it into my parked PT, damaging it also. Pix in General discussion. Hope I am not totalled. My driver ran--leaving his minivan (which I am sure they will report stolen).
