6,000 Mile Service

Recommended Posts

Dropped Max off at the dealer this morning with a Fix-It List:

  • Perform first oil change
  • GPS sucks, often decides we are off road or in the ocean.
  • Sometimes goes forward when reverse is selected.
  • 12 V battery is shot, won't hold charge for more than two days, only shows 12.1 V immediately after driving.
  • Gas mileage sucks.

Just got a call informing me that:

  • They are implementing TSB 13-3-11 for GPS problem.
  • Engineering knows about the reverse problem and is working on a fix, date TBD. (Trust Me, Check is in the Mail, I promise I won't ---- -- ---- -----, etc.)
  • New battery ordered, will be in later today.
  • Mechanic is checking the gas mileage (I can hardly wait to see the big improvement!)

I thought about bringing up the one kick sometimes two kick rear hatch but decided to wait on that one.

I was surprised when they suggested Tire Rotation.  I checked the owner's manual and sure enough, it says rotate tires at every oil change. Dealer only charges $14.95 which is a bargain so I went for it.  Probably a good idea since I've driven it 6,000 miles and towed it 3,300 miles.

We supposedly just had TSB 13-3-11 done to our car, but it didn't seem to work very well.  The car still doesn't want to stay on the road!

On the bright side, our lifetime milage is around 32-33 MPG but it has been cold ever since we bough the car... 35 degrees again today!  However, we had a couple of days last weekend that were pretty nice (mid 50's) and we achieved the best MPG's for individual trips we have seen so far.  I had a 30 mile round trip and got 47.8 on the way there and 48.8 on the return trip.  My wife had a 10 mile trip back from church the following day and said she got 50!  These trips were on 2-lane roads with speeds under 60 MPH.  Hopefully your MPG's will get better with the warmer weather.

Bad news is, I spent Feb and March in the Southeast.  Not much improvement in mileage while I was there.  Lifetime Avg is 35, most tanks have been in the 34-36 range regardless of temperature.  There is no hope if you get on an Interstate and try to run 65-70 to stay alive.

Your car has gone backwards when the forward gear is selected?  Do you mean the car rolled or it was propelled by the ICE or by the electric motor?

This is not the same as, and much scarier than, the oft reported car won't go backwards when reverse gear is selected

In the good old days the gear shift was mechanically linked to the transmission to manipulate the gears for forward and reverse.

On a hybrid, the gear shift sends a signal to an electronic module which is supposed to reverse the polarity of the electric motor for forward and reverse.

So I can see how this could happen. :shift:

Scary.

+1 on the TSB 31-3-11 failure.

Why bring out a patch if it does not work, thats at least 2 of us that its failed, or should I say "no difference".

"Car drives forward when gear shift lever is placed in "Reverse"."

That one screams RECALL.  That is the biggest safety issue I've ever heard next to a stuck accelerator.

Let us know what they say.  That seems would be grounds for a loaner car until they could get it "figured" out.  Either that or a complete buy back.

I had TSB 31-3-11 done last week, and I think it actually worked for me. Been watching the map closely for the last few days, zoomed in, and my car has stayed on the road. Too soon to be sure, but it seems likely it at least will help some people.

Excellent.  Mine is working too, but had to replace the GPMS (antenna) 1st.

Again, that's not everyone's experience.  including mine.  Maybe something is wrong w/ your car, I don't know.

Maybe there is more than one cause of the problem?

I dunno, I am speaking more with Galpin next week when I get back from Mammoth. I also raised the GPS module as well. Will let everyone know what happens when I get more news....
