ArizonaEnergi Posted April 30, 2013 Report Share Posted April 30, 2013 We took our C-Max into the dealer today to have the GPS system looked at and they concluded, rightly so, that a new GPSM was required. They didn't have one, as they are only obtained when a Repair Order calls for one, but another dealer allegedly had one but upon sending someone over there they discovered their inventory was wrong, they had none, so our Service Advisor immediately ordered one from Ford and it is suppose to be here Thursday. So, hopefully, Thursday or Friday we hope to have our GPS working properly, then all that will remain is the 3.5.1 update and another day spent at the dealer. I will post the outcome. Fortunately, I think, our dealer isn't wanting to keep ours overnight (yet) for the repair. I'm just hoping they don't screw up the dash in getting to everything. ArizonaEnergi Posted May 1, 2013 Author Report Share Posted May 1, 2013 (edited) Mine is fairly accurate when I start out and are driving slow, with the point of the arrow slightly behind my true location. As I speed up to 40-45 the arrow gets even further behind and is typically 100 feet behind my true location as I'm driving. When I stop it remains behind. If stopped and making a turn usually the arrow will shift forward to the road I'm on and continue to trail behind. The problem arises if I make a turn without stopping. The GPS detects the turn and makes the turn but its 100' behind me so all of a sudden its 100' either to the right or left of my position. It that happens to be a road it will jump to the road and if I was using the navigation it tells me I'm on the wrong road. Actually, with this problem navigation is impossible to use. Add turns to the drive and the location indicator gets totally screwed up. The "good" thing is that this condition is totally reproducible. Drive the same road at the same speed and make the same turns and the indicator will always behave the same way. Here's where it always ends up when I turn into my neighborhood. The recalibration or the gps module replaced. I plan on taking it in as soon as the MFT update is out, so I can have them fix that and a couple of fit and finish issues and the rear liftgate not closing. ArizonaEnergi Posted May 2, 2013 Author Report Share Posted May 2, 2013 (edited) I had taken mine in a few weeks ago for the SB 13.3.11 software fix but I already had the current version (three hours of my life I won't get back. Oh wait, I got some free cookies. Never mind.). I was going to wait to do both the GPSM and the Sync update at the same time but decided to go ahead with the GPS fix as I got a trip coming up and who knows when the hell they're going to release 3.5.1. Also, the GPS fix requires time for the techs to verify the problem, AND they may not have the module in stock as it appears to be a "as needed" warranty item. Jus-A-CMax Posted May 3, 2013 Report Share Posted May 3, 2013 Galpin replaced my GPS, the service manager is not promising anything (and he was honest) but as far as he can test, the new module was flawless. I drove it back to my home and it was spot on, added a few 90* turns and it was cool. Still taking me a while to adapt back to the hybrid driving...ssssh.....anyway, we'll see. Ford seems to be working on them, fixing them, and narrowing down the issues.I am going to be honest here and candid, imo - your dealer will work their butt off for you but from the vibe I am getting, Ford is not acknowledging any issues with the GPS but you have to take your CMax in, show them the proof that the Nav is playing up and then the dealer will work on the issue. Galpin Ford worked hard on mine, I know, they had the car for 4 days now and they eventually replaced the module and they were generous to lend me the Focus as a loaner. I cannot say enough how they kept me up to date and worked hard on my CMax. I pray this is the solution and the service manager (not advisor) was candid enugh to me. He's got other Ford vehicles with the same 3.1.3 with the exact same issue and its puzzling, we are both hoping for a 3.5.1 update soon. I have the A3 label in my SD but according to Galpin, it's an A4 version in the card. They had it all day, but gave us a rental to use, and they also performed the TSB 13-5-1 DCDC Converter software update. Part number: CJ5Z-10E893-C; Description: Aerial Asy - G Upon arriving home and plugging it in, the ring did not light up. I unplugged and plugged back in - still no light. I unplugged, opened the door and closed it, plugged it back in and the light and fan came on. Don't know if this is a result of the software update as that would be annoying. (Update: This is apparently not unknown in an Energi with a depleted battery like ours was. Typical solution is to start and shutoff the car. Mine was to open and shut the drivers door.) Overall, glad the GPS is finally working as it should, now only the 3.5.1 left to do when it arrives - pending other issues. The 0.01 was due to if offtracking a wee bit as I made a 90 degree turn off a Freeway exit ramp and it soon corrected itself within a second. The old one would just stay there. Jus-A-CMax Posted May 6, 2013 Report Share Posted May 6, 2013 (edited) Second day, took down to Oxnard Beach area and then to Camarillo where the fires were and it was errie. The GPS was 99% effective. A couple of right turns it was thrown off but self corrected within a second. It ain't 100% perfect but it is SO MUCH better than what it was. I am going to take it down to Pacific Palisades tomorrow, lots o-surface tight streets with lots of curvature and all, so it will be interesting. So far, I am very happy with the replacement.
