First Failure w/ entertainment module

Recommended Posts

I have had my C Max since October 2012 and has 6000 miles to date.  Its build date is July 2012 and is a base SEL model.   I have had no prior problems other than the clock on occasion forgets the time or sometimes the stations would not show.  Yesterday however I lost complete control over the infotainment center.   I was last listening to AM radio when I came back to car for short trip the radio started normally on last AM station but now I could not control volume, change stations, media sources even though the screen appeared to make the changes.  The dash screen showed  audio off even though the radio continued to play and the on./off button had no affect.  Basically, the radio was stuck on Rush Limbach with the volume louder then normal.   Very annoying.

I took a chance and drove to my dealer to at least show them the problem and hope they could at least shut the radio off.   Here is the good part.   The service manager ( at Rod Baker Ford) came out observed the problem and said that he has seen this before and knew what to do.   He asked if I could wait a little bit and he would get it in.  About an hour or so later he advised me that he had "rebooted" the car by disconnecting the batteries and updated the software.   Beyond that I do not have any other details or paperwork other than looking into the system information file and found a new update file showing and observing that the system info screen shows

CCPU S/W version 4.27.12058_product.   I have no idea if that has anything to do with the infotainment module.

I have successfully re-paired my phone and re-established my settings and everything seems to be working as before.  Hopeing the clock will now remember the time better.  I did observe that the calender showed the correct date now.   I still don't understand what  or why this seemingly out of the blue failure happened.  It was simply the system worked then it did not work.  I guess it is the same answer when Microsoft works then it doesn't.

This has been my first time with this dealer's (Rod Baker Ford) service dept. and so far they have exceeded my expectation.  I could not have asked for better service or outcome.   :happy feet:

Chinto, this sounds very similar to what's been going on with my SEL, 303A, built in November 2012. About 2 weeks ago I lost all control of the entertainment...........It wouldn't even turn on. No buttons, dials or paddles worked. Neither would my phone, even tho it showed connected. I drove to the grocery, shopped for about 10 minutes, and when I came back everything was up and running again. 3 days later the same thing happened again, and I drove it straight to the dealership so they could see what was going on.  The technician disconnected, then reconnected the battery but that did nothing. Since then it has happened every afternoon this week. Now I go out about 4 and turn the car on.........nope, no radio or phone..........turn it off, and then by the time I leave to go home it's working again. They told me that 3.5.1 should correct this but there are differing opinions as to when it will be out.

I'm with you........I can't figure out why, after 5 months of no problems at all, all of a sudden this? The only thing I can say is that 7 out of the 8 times it has  happened, it's been in the afternoon with temps above 70*.

I hope your problem is solved!!

  • 2 years later...

I also have SEL with July 2012 build date.  Yesterday I lost Entertainment, Voice Control paddle and Rear Warning system.  Couldn't even get CD out - showed No Disc message after swallowing it.

Dealer looked at it today while doing some updates and advised radio needed replacing.  This is not exactly a part that wears out with mileage so I was surprised it wasn't covered by extended maintenance plan.

Anyone else had this happen?  Glad to find at least one related thread.

Haven't had it happen but mileage (or more precisely, traveling) could definitely play a factor, as the components in any audio system aren't meant to be shaken much (for example, most speakers in cars won't last *nearly* as long as they would if they were sitting at home in a stable environment).  Same goes for the delicate mechanism to play a CD.

In the past I've replaced my cars stereo systems at least once or twice during my ownership (then again, I keep most of my vehicles a LONG time).  Depending on your driving habits you can expect to do more or less the same.

OK --- not all parts were delivered to the dealer today, including new radio.  They "put everything back together" so I could have the car over the long weekend (Cdn Thanksgiving).  They drive car up to the pick up spot AND ... car jockey has radio tuned to the Blue Jays - Rangers ball game !!!!  WOO HOO, except we lost the game.

Paddle for voice control and rear warning system are all working fiine again.

I called over the service advisor and of course we'll see if this is an intermittent problem or a matter of pulling fuses 69/79 out from time to time, for whatever reason.

Kellytoons - interesting comment - and I hadn't thought of the rock and roll over time - but last radio I replaced was in college days with a 78 Datsun B210.  I like holding onto cars too -- there's a lot of earth-materials in every car so may as well stretch their lifetime.

Well, good for you (problems that go away are the best...  unless they become "intermittent".  Sigh).

Perhaps you've had good luck or I've had bad cars <g> (or just not taken care of them as well).  I know in my old age I'm driving so much more... "carefully" that I hope everything, including the audio, lasts a long time (with the C-Max so quiet the audio system is *really* good -- on par or better with others I've spent thousands on).

Hi

wouldnt this recall take care of the cost? A Title: SYNC WITH MYFORD/MYLINCOLN TOUCH - WARRANTY EXTENSION COVERING ACCESSORY PROTOCOL INTERFACE MODULE (APIM)

Field Service Action Number: 12M02

Great find - thanks!  Will ask when I go in for rest  of work on unrelated FSAs/Recalls to be completed this week.

Zero hiccups with anything audio related since the last dealer visit, through a good number of bumpy cottage roads and all kinds of fall weather.

Probably marking this as "take fuses out if it happens again".  Static build up or connections bumped out of alignment with fuses - any guess.   Still a great car.

Had a Blaupunkt installed after the one radio failure 35 years ago that I mentioned earlier.  Glad to hear their sound is still as good as ever.
