mtb9153
Hi CMax Owners within the great San Francisco Bay Area. Since the weather is gearing up for summer and I'm used to having car shows during this time. I thought it might be fun to have a local gathering of CMax Owners at some convenient locale to everyone who might be interested. I would like to do this on a Saturday since my Sunday's is filled with my Church activities at least until 1pm. I know some of you might have kids with sports events filling your weekend free space so we'll see what can be done. This would also work great for promoting Green driving awareness for any passer-bys who happened to walk by. So location might be a plus in high visibility sites. I'm open to drive anywhere that might be best. We could coordinate this with food and everyone could bring what they like best. I just would like to get a big collection of these cars in one location since I'm seeing more and more CMax driving around the bay area. Maybe a local Ford dealership might welcome hosting this? Drum up some public awareness and possibly some new sales? I'm going to run this past my friend and salesman at Frontier Ford in Santa Clara to see if something could happen? Everybody chime in with a yay or nay to this idea. I know this might not be interesting to some since cars are just a way to move from point A to point B in these trying gas price days, but think about it and hope to hear from you. Sincerely, Mike
Jus-A-CMax
mtb - great idea but I am too south for the meet but wish you KUDOS and good luck with this organization  I'll throw this idea out though - how about Mammoth Mountain? Mammoth is sponsored by Ford and they have been advertising the CMax with the "Kate to Mammoth" commercial which I am sure you have seen. Jus an idea... ;)

I haven't been to Mammoth since 1998 when I went there in the summer as an employee for a Mountain Bike downhill event. I used to work for a mtn bike suspension company called RockShox as a snowboarder I bet you have heard of them? All the engineers when they weren't racing downhill on two wheels, they were boarding downhill in the winter. I love the area, been there once in the snow and it was beautiful. Reminded me allot of Kirkwood where I was introduce to skiing back 1981. I could do an owners event in Mammoth, would be fun. Reminds me of the many owners gatherings we had every summer in the mid 90's in south Lake Tahoe always in conjunction with Reno's Hot August Nights. I was a member of the International Syclone/Typhoon Owners Association. We always met at a Best Western right off Kingsbury Grade just past Stateline on hiway 50. We always had so many trucks show for this that we would almost close out the Best Western. I was surprised they let us come back each year because we would hang out in the parking lot until all hours of the night talking cars or trucks in that case. And there was always lots of beer involved so contributed to the noise level. Patrons would complain about the noise and we'd have to tone it down for 10 or 15 minutes, then it was right back where it was. Great fun we had every year. How many of your pals in soCal might be in for something like this? If we did something like this? It would be fun in August around the 5th. Why the 5th? That's my birthday and we always had the Syclone Typhoon event on or around my birthday. This year is a milestone birthday for me, I hit 60...ugh! Yes I'm that old...vintage 1953. We can kick this around and see if there any interest? The wife and I were talking about going to Michigan as part of my birthday, but if they decide to have the event in September, unless I take time off to do it from work I possibly can't go. Jus-A-CMax
I can't speak for others but make it a weekend in September - it may work. I am almost a regular at Mammoth, been going there for years and years. Plenty of places to stay there as well. It is really a gorgeous drive from Los Angeles to Mammoth but slog to the MPG given the elevation change from 800ft to 7,800ft - I would like to see how Ron, or Gen or people from SoCal would do this drive in especially climbing Sherwin grade. Yeah, there you go. A weekend will work for me and wifey but let us know ahead of time. As I said, we travel there all the time so we'll leave Friday evening, get there around midnight and head back on Sunday afternoon. Rockshox - yeah, they use to make the suspensions for mountain bikes. I've been to Kirkwood too, great place to snowboard especially one run which is like a funnel, can't remember the name, such a long time ago. My suggestion - plan a date ASAP so we can all book it for a weekend. Once this is done, then the FUN & Games begin. Don't know if anyone golfs here but Bishop is a ton of fun. Sierra (mammoth is TOUGH) though or we can drink beer all weekend...works for me. Oh there is an airport at Mammoth as well so anyone else can FLY IN , afterall, our CMaxs make great taxis with the room and all ;) Edited May 18, 2013 by Jus-A-CMax
mtb9153
Jus I know that run, I think they pros call it "shooting the bowl" it looks like a crazy run and certainly out of my league. As a snow skier I was never very advanced or very good. Usually spent my time getting warm in the lodge getting to know the bartender. I always had trouble with shin splints and intense pain which made it hard to control the ski's. I gave it up. Jus-A-CMax
Cool, its been such a long time. I use to drive from Burlingame to Kirkwood early on Sat or stay somewhere in a town beforehand and ride the weekend. I really miss Kirkwood, it was such a blast. However, it doesn't hold a candle to Mammoth in terms of area, slope and powder. Now, whats happening here mtb - Mammoth? September? May be plan for a weekend? We can stay in the Mammoth town, Snowcreek, Motel 6 or Mammoth Inn. If you stay at Mammoth Inn, we'll have to drive to town to eat & drink..which is cool to EV down but 18.8MPG to climb up there. Its kinda 1/2 way so that may attract the SoCal CMax owners like me and it may work for NorCal as well. Jus throwin out some ideas... Funny I'm seeing so many CMax now around here. Obviously they do not check in on the forum or don't know about it? Or don't care to participate. I'm left to wonder about all the owners I'm seeing lately. I hate to think that their Max is just a way to drive from point a to point b on less gas? And don't want socializing with other owners?
