The backup camera is not working on my 2013 cmax hybrid sel. It says contact dealership but just to look at it they said the cost is $378. Also the power lift gate clicks and acts like it wants to open but it won’t open or close automatically. What should I check to diagnose these problems myself?

I had the same problem with my 2014 with my reversing camera. I bought a replacement off Amazon for $138. You can enter your car's model year into the site, and it will confirm if the camera or whatever item suits your car.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KL82NVB/

I then installed the camera myself. There are instructions and videos on how to do it online. It took me about 3-4 hours, but I have two left hands, essentially.

I bought a replacement camera from amazon for less than $40.   I installed it and it works beautifully. After I installed it the button to lower the gate no longer worked.  I then removed the panel and checked the switch with an ohm meter. The switch worked fine.  I then jumpered the connector and the lower gate circuit worked fine.    I checked the contacts in the female part of the connector and found that they were too large. I took a pick and forced them to be smaller and now the lower switch works perfectly.
