Hatch issues, even after the update by the dealer

Recommended Posts

Anyone else have problems with it opening even after the update?

It happened about twice so far, tonight especially was annoying. Used the remote, I heard it click to unlock but it wouldn't go up.

Hit the remote a few more times and nothing, used the button on the hatch and nothing. After about 3 tries I had to manually open it. POS...

I"ve heard they have redesigned the latch mechanism.  Maybe yours needs that?

many folks with this issue early on before the update was created posted that they needed the rubber seals replaced or latcg adjusted to fix a sticky rear hatch as it would open but not raise. have the dealer look at the mechanical linkage and seals.

the software update was for those where it WOULD open, but only after 2 kicks, instead of only 1 required kick, as it was designed.

Yes armoredsaint, same issue started happening to me. It's intermittent though. When it's not working this is what happens:

- button on dash won't open the rear hatch

- button under the handle on the rear hatch won't open the hatch

- remote won't open the hatch

- kicking under the bumper won't open the hatch

I hear a clicking noise, but no movement.

Have to force the hatch closed against the straining gears in the struts.

Is someone saying this is a mechanical issue that the dealer can fix? Not programming, or a sensor?

I would bet it's a physical/mechanical issue.

  • 1 month later...

I'm having the same problem as Armoredsaint. My liftgate worked with a kick 0% of the time  before the upgrade; now works 10% of the time after the upgrade.

When we bought the car in April, the salesman couldn't get it to work on the demo car; he said "this thing never works for me." Why Ford continues to advertise this non-working feature is beyond me.

Because it's not a "non-working feature".  It works just fine for most people.  Perhaps its broken on your care.

I have not had a single instance where the kick didn't work since getting the update.

Same here - the improvement is amazing!  Previously, it used unlatch most of the time, but not open, or begin to open and then close...and forget about trying to close the harch with a kick - I used to just hit the button on the hatch door.  Now it's perfect, in every way.  What I don't understand is how/why they released the original version, when, at least in my experience, it clearly did not ever work as intended.  I can understand the FE recall/update, where Ford learned some things and did some fine tuning to the programming, but to release the cars with a clearly defective (essentially inoperative?) feature seems like a bad move to me.
