JohnnOhio
Went out this morning to leave for work. Pushed on the brake and then the start button. 3 chimes went off, check engine light was on and the message PLEASE PULL OVER SAFELY was displayed. Turned it out and restarted, NO PROBLEM. :headscratch: STRANGE? Allen Whipps
CassidyB
Did it say "stop safely now"? If so, that is a "catch all" type of error message. I received a "stop safely now" error in January while starting the car. Second attempt at starting the car and the error went away. I took it straight to the dealer and the diagnostic test showed an electric fault related to some type of safety feature that discharges the hybrid battery during a crash. My C-max was in the shop for 13 days before Ford was able to resolve the issue. I say take it to your service department... JohnnOhio
Thanks CassidyB I'll take it in and tell them to check that first. Hopefully I won't have to wait 13 days to get my baby back.
Laurel
Sorry to hear about this John. Let us know what you learn please.
Adair
John, I got the 'stop safely now' message once. I ran the diagnostics thing and didn't see any error messages. The car started the next time, and I've never seen that message again
JohnnOhio
Happen again this morning. Got in pushed start and the check engine light came on. Just to make sure I tried putting it into drive to see what happens and no power to the wheels. Turned it off and restarted and it's ok to drive No check engine light. Guess I'll be taking her in to get serviced. I'll have them fix my headliner recall and update the software while they have it there. I'm going to miss my Maxie
Adair
Well bummer!! Hopefully it will be a quick, easy fix. But yeah, you ARE gonna miss Maxie! Keep us posted.
CassidyB
Be sure to keep us posted... The stop safely now can point to a variety of things.. I only got it one time and debated taking it to the dealer. Even though the message disappeared, my service department took the issue seriously. Supposedly Ford engineers got involved and worked on my car remotely.
JohnnOhio
I am taking in and having them take care of a few other items while its there, so it might be a while. I'll post an update when I get her back with the solution they come up with.
Allen Whipps
“Pull Over Safely Now” 2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid. Build date: Aug 7, 2013 I got that last night when I came out of work at 5:30 P.M. and tried to start it. It beeped and showed that message. I pressed START again to turn it off. It would not turn off but repeated the message. I could not turn off the car. I tried holding the START button, nothing would turn off the car. All other power was on, the fan was blowing. I called Ford's roadside assistance. They hooked up with a tow company who was over an hour away* which I mention because of the time passage. I sat in the shade and checked after 15 minutes or so. Still the same but it warned that it was shutting some things down and a timer line showed up on the SYNC display. After that, the fan was still on but the screen was dark. It still displayed the message and beeped and re-displayed the message if I pressed START.Later, when the tow truck showed up, I saw that all the displays were dark. I tried starting the car and it showed "Ready to Drive." He had chains on it at that point so I didn't try to drive it. It turned off normally. I had it towed to the dealer. My car had been parked for the work day. It was sunny, it got up to about 80 F at the time this happened. No word yet this morning. They are checking things. I asked about recalls and they said there was one they needed to apply about the safety system (not a mechanical thing) but no others.I'll supply updates as I get them. * Although I was in a populus area and that was 10 minutes from an even larger populuous area and that was near an even larger populous area that was no more than 20 minute away from where the car sat. UPDATE (same day):Dealer service dept. called and said it was fixed. They said it was a 'software problem' and they had a service noticice on that and applied a patch or reloaded the software (I'll get more details.) They also applied a patch for a current recall having to do with the restraint system for crashes. I had not gotten the recall letter yet so it's nice that's done. The work ticket says: Pulled Codes. Reprogrammed BECM per TSB 13-12-14, Road Test. That's all I know. Seems fine on drive home. Edited May 30, 2014 by Allen Whipps
