From the article: Boing Boing, the Internet's favorite technology/culture website, Federated Media Publishing, the conversational marketing pioneer, and Ford Motor Company, an automotive technology leader and the first automaker to open source the car, announced Boing Boing: Ingenuity today. This two-day celebration of innovation begins on Saturday, August 17th with a 12-hour hack day and continues on Sunday, August 18th, bringing leading voices in science, engineering, culture and art to the stage. slampro
"Event participants will have the opportunity to experience the new 2013 C-MAX Hybrid from Ford, the makers of more plug-in hybrid and all-electric vehicles than any other auto manufacturer. Participants will have access to Ford's new OpenXC Platform, a compelling open-source hardware and software toolkit, to explore what can be accomplished with unprecedented access to live vehicle data." http://openxcplatform.com/ Not sure what it all means really. SnowStorm
What it means, in part at least. is that you can plug your Android smartphone into the OBDII port under the dash (with special adapter) and programmers can write all sorts of apps to read data from the car and do crazy things with it. I suspect you won't believe what will be available a year from now. Here is a list of some data that should be available. No doubt there will be a lot more for the C-Max but I haven't found a complete list yet. steering_wheel_angle -600 to +600 degreestorque_at_transmission -500 to 1500 Nmengine_speed 0 to 16382 RPMvehicle_speed 0 to 655 km/h (this will be positive even if going in reverse as it's not a velocity, although you can use the gear status to figure out direction)accelerator_pedal_position 0 to 100%parking_brake_statusbrake_pedal_statustransmission_gear_position States: first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, reverse, neutralodometer 0 to 16777214.000 km, with about .2m resolutionignition_status States: off, accessory, run, startfuel_level 0 - 100%fuel_consumed_since_restart 0 - 4294967295.0 L (this goes to 0 every time the vehicle restarts, like a trip meter)door_status driver, passenger, rear_left, rear_rightheadlamp_statushigh_beam_statuswindshield_wiper_statuslatitude -89.0 to 89.0 degrees with standard GPS accuracylongitude -179.0 to 179.0 degrees with standard GPS accuracybutton_event left, right, up, down, ok. idle, pressed, released, held_short, held_long, stuck List is summarized from http://openxcplatform.com/vehicle-interface/output-format.htmlInteresting to note that the odometer could go to over 10 million miles! :shift: JAZ and slampro
salsaguy
that's cool . I'm sure Ford already had their own app built when they took all the user data at the Irvine meet n greet event.can't wait to see what comes out of this.
