Laurel
Does anyone know if the C-Max Hybrid reverse sensing sytem has the feature of an alert sounding when you are backing up and another vehicle is moving into your space? I can find a description of the reverse sensing system. Thanks.
dtorres
Not exactly sure what you're asking but if you are backing up (sensors are now on) and another vehicle moved into the range of the sensors (because it was backing up) the sensors would beep in the same manner as if you backed up towards any other stationary object. The closer the object gets the faster the beeps get until they're continous. There is no specific tone though to denote that what's behind you is another vehicle and not a stationary object. Laurel
I guess I wasn't very clear. My question is backing out of a blind parking space like at a busy mall, will there be any alert to indicate a car about to cross behind me? Or that I am backing into a crossing car's path? Hope that makes sense.
dtorres
Now I understand. It sounds like what you're looking for is Ford's BLIS system (BLind spot Information System) which does cross traffic alert. Unfortunately it's not yet available on the C-Max. They might add it in the 2014 model year.
Laurel
Thanks so much. Yes, BLIS is what I meant. I am not sure whether I read that you have you C-Max or not? I think you ordered in August though.
Laurel
I got to the answer to whether you have your C-Max as I just looked at your tinted windows--looks very nice. How many weeks did you wait in total for your car? Edited October 10, 2012 by Laurel
dtorres
My order was skewed because I ordered first week of August and one week later the dealer reconfigured one they had already ordered to match mine so that it would arrive faster. The one they reconfigured (second week of August) was built on Sept. 7 but is still sitting at the plant in Michigan waiting to ship for some unknown reason. Because of that my dealer let me switch out the one I was waiting for with one that he already recieved with similiar options. My understanding is expect two to three weeks for a VIN. The vehicle is built one to two weeks after the VIN is issued. Then assuming they ship it right away 2 to 3 weeks for shipping depending on how far from Michigan you live. I honestly think the better option is to look on Ford's website under Dealer Inventory and look at the vehicles the dealers in your area have already ordered (status will show "in stock" or "dealer ordered"). Once you find one with the options you like ask that specific dealer to hold that vehicle for you. I think the only reason I'd ever order a vehicle again is if I wanted some really unique configuration that I couldn't find anywhere within 100+ miles of my home. The wait and anticipation was killing me :)
Laurel
I am already committed to the factory order i.e. put down my $1000 deposit on Saturday. The wait will be hard for me too. I don't think Ford Canada has the dealer inventory list, but I will check for the heck of it. Thanks for all the good information.
seattlerain
It does detect anything close (curb/car etc) behind you, if you have the reverse camera sensing package, the object lights up and it beeps at you. I just wish you could activate the rear camera while driving like I see on the Honda add (changing lanes, etc.). But very happy with it. One other point to note as I didn't see it here, like some of the better backup camera systems, it will move the distance lines based on the steering wheel as well as the different colored lines will give you an idea of how far away the object is -- for instance, when I test drove an Energi and backed it into a space, the rep had mentioned that be sure to not go beyond the 6 foot mark so someone could check out the rear hatch area while it was parked (we backed up to the side a building); nice thing to have!! I have backup camera's on my LEAF (has distance lines but no alarm) and a VW Routan with no lines, no alarm and especially on the Routan (which the C-Max may replace) it would have been welcome. Laurel
redEV that is another new fact for me. I did notice the lines when backing up on the demo and how they turned with you which I thought was cool, but didn't know you could judge distance with them.. Can't wait to get my new C-Max as I do have the camera.

Yes, Ford has done a good job on the C-Max although it would have been a bit better if you could a-la-cart some of these options; I'm sure they get packaged to reduce the number of unique builds for these to reduce costs and I guess after all Ford does 'discount' if you buy a particular package as well. -- what I also found a bit amazing is that the C-Max is actually SHORTER than my LEAF (only 1.4 inches but it was a surprise) but of course its taller (by almost 3 inches) but this makes it still quite compact.
