Chinto
I have been exploring the features on my new C Max. Certainly the Sync system is feature rich. One of the features that I have found is the Sync "Services" that comes complimentary with the C Max for 3 years. One of the options I found is a traffic alert that I prearrange on the Sync my ride website that basically tells sync to send me a traffic alert thru my paired cellphone anywhere along my route from home to work between the hours of 7am to 9am on Monday Wednesday and Friday (days I drive to work). While I mostly never have traffic problems on the way to work sometimes if an accident occurs gridlock follows. Apparently I will receive a message thru Sync of a traffic incident before I get there. Since I have only arranged this on Monday nothing has occurred yet. Certainly the other way to use it is to call Sync services by the command "Services" to get the same info wherever I am but this option I thought was very cool to have an ongoing prearranged alert system. All I have to do is remember to turn the cell phone on in the morning. I am signed up for a training class offered at my local dealer to show me more features to Sync this coming Thursday. I hope this will help me better utilize my car's features.
CNCGeek
My sync account does not show any offer for free sync services, but I have the base SE, and they want $60/year. I think it may require the nav option to get the free services. However, even the non-MFT sync does work with some Android and I-phone apps (Applink). I can control pandora running on my phone using the base sync system which is pretty cool, and there is an app called Scout for nav (which I have not really used). http://www.syncmyride.com/Own/Modules/FaqManagement/FaqDetail.aspx?faqId=
dtorres
You get three years of Sync with the MyFord Touch package otherwise I think its a six month trial.
REC
I have the SE package with just the plain MyFord (not the touch system), and you still get three years of SYNC for free with the great services, such as the traffic alerts described above. You can even get turn by turn directions using sync services, but without the street view. Just go to syncmyride.com and you should be able to sign up and get the free services for three years, although I think you will need the VIN for your car. I also use the traffic alert feature even when I am in my old car. I just "ask" sync to send me texts when there is a traffic problem - and it goes to my phone regardless of the car I am in. Thanks, I will have to look into this since the free 3 year offer was not listed when I registered with my vin. They only offered the regular sub, will definitely jump on the free offer though. CNCGeek
Got this info when I chatted with Syncmyride support (names changed to protect the innocent): Hxxxxx: The complimentary subscription is only available to C-Max vehicles that have the My Ford Touch system. By your vehicle having the basic SYNC system (My Ford), the complimentary subscription is not available to your vehicle. Not doubting that some people received the free offer on the SE base, but I'd say that it is not guaranteed without MFT. It is otherwise $60/yr, personaly I feel like that is probabaly a good deal if you don't have a smartphone, but otherwise I think there are other ways to get it done. Caldecott
YouTube has a few videos that help.
darrelld
I have watched the videos and I have the SEL version will all the sync services. What I cannot get to work is the Destinations App with my iPhone 5. According to the videos on youtube you hit the voice command button and say "Mobile Apps" but I get a response of "Command not found". When I say "Help" Mobile apps or mobile anthing is not listed as an available command. Has anyone gotten Sync Applink to work?

I don't think mobile apps (app-link) are available with MFT (pg405). It also says that you need to use the cable with the iPhone (not bluetooth). darrelld
Yes I have the touch screen, my option package is 302a. I did have the USB cable attached from the iPhone to the C-Max just like in the tutorial video. Still the system does not recognized any variation of the command Mobile Apps. I even downloaded the latest version of sync and updated my C-Max via USB drive created on my iMac. The C-Max update was successful and I sent the data back to Sync to update my vehicle firmare status. Still no Mobile Apps?

I am not sure why this is, does not make sense to pay more and not get this feature, but it is pretty nice to get it on the base, especially for Pandora. I could have sworn that I read where the Applink feature is now available on My Ford Touch with the latest updates but I can't find this reference. Most time docs will lag software updates by several months.
ctford
So far I'm disappointed in the Sync services. It appears to just connect through my phone and dials an IVR to get general information. Very low-tech. It should work WITHOUT the use of my phone. My mom just got a Hyundai Santa Fe with Bluelink (supposedly something very similar). Her car has a BlueLink phone app that includes several remote features - like starting the car remotely. Now THIS is something I'd find useful with Ford Services! It looks like they're going to have this available with the C-Max Energi, but not the Hybrid. Boo. Shame on them. Laurel
I would like to download this Myford Touch Handbook, but can't do it without joining facebook which I absolutely have no intent in joining. Does anyone know of another site that has the same handbook for downloading--as this seems the best one I have found? I am trying to learn all about it before my car arrives. http://www.scribd.com/doc/52849685/Ford-SYNC-With-MyFord-Touch-Handbook
RachelnLa
It opened on my iPad, I can read it without goin to Facebook. Thanks. Studying now.
Laurel
Rachel I meant to say that I want to save it and print it, but can't do that without going to Facebook. I can read it too, and it looks like it would worth having a printed copy handy.

robodog61
Hello, I have a new C max SEL with the 302a package. I can't seem to get the voice recognition to recognize the names or numbers of Sirius stations. The voice commands work well with other apps and I can even to work the voice commands to get presets. I figured that out after reading the book. However, I can't get it to recognize the name of any station. It is almost comical. It just keeps saying that it doesn't recognize that station. The Ford tech support guy said to do a reboot of the sync system. Anyone have this problem? Thank you
darrelld
Sync Versions? Edited November 24, 2012 by darrelld
darrelld
Can someone with MFT confirm the latest version of Sync they are using? I have download the Sync Status Checker Tool and it reports Gen2 - V3.1.3. I read on the Owner to Owner Sync forum where the latest is version is 3.5.1 http://boards.synccommunity.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?nav=messages&tsn=28&webtag=fordsyncmb&tid=6206
PWBarrett
It looks to me like the v3.5.1 release that's currently out there is specifically not for Hybrid models, and for anyone with navigation, requires a new SD card. I don't have Nav - I was considering installing it till I saw the compatibility list. Here's the TSB for anybody that's interested:https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1257774/tsb12-11-01.pdf If anybody already has 3.5.1 on their C-Max, please say so! joe
The dealer helped my wife sync her iPhone. Took less than a minute. It also uploaded her address book. And, if she comes back to the car with a new address on her iPhone, it syncs up with the C-Max.
