JayCo59
The salesman told me that the CD player in my car is actually a DVD player and if in Park will play DVD movies.I tried it and it didn't work. It takes in the DVD and spins for 15 seconds and then spits it back out with some sort of a read error message.Audio CD's work fine.Has anyome else tried a DVD? I have the SE with the Sony head unit, "My Ford Sync" I think they call it, with NAV.Thx,Jay Edited October 25, 2012 by JayCo59
dtorres
It's CD only. The previous generations used a DVD for navigation. I suspect when they went to SD cards for navigation they went back to CD players to save a few bucks.
JayCo59
Thanks for the verification I was hoping that I was missing something but I wasn't hopeful. I also tried a thumb drive in one of the USB slots with .wma files on it to see if it would play video files. No such luck, it found the .mp3 files on the drive and played the audio but not the .wma video files. The next test is to see if I can play video's that are on my iPod...Maybe I'll try other video file types on the usb stick.Jay
Laurel
From what I have read a DVD can be played on Myford Touch when the car is in park. So I think it depends on whether your car has Myford Touch or Sync. I think if you have an SEL you can play the DVD, but not with SE. I think the salesmen don't have all the facts and differences memorized. Edited November 5, 2012 by Laurel
jmckinley
Ford website says if you have Navigation System, you can play movies on the DVD player when in park.
dtorres
You can get navigation in two forms. The MyFord Touch system with 8" screen and nav which has CD player (option on SE only). Or you can get nav with the Sony upgraded audio system (option on the SEL only). It's possible that Sony used a DVD player instead of a CD player in their system and only those units can play DVDs. Can anyone with the upgraded Sony system verify this? JayCo59
I have the SE with the My Ford Touch system with Navigation (equip grp 203a); not sure if it's a Sony. Only plays CD's. Even WMA files on a USB stick would not play.I did all this testing in my garage in Park. The NAV system uses the SD slot for the maps. dtorres
You can only get the Sony system on the SEL, and I believe it says Sony on the dash.
kechair
Ok, I have an SEL with the upgraded Sony audio and NAV (package 302a). Just tried both a regular DVD and a BluRay. No luck. System does not only not recognize the disc, it spits it back out. Also tried to access a ripped movie loaded into my iPod Touch. Only audio plays out of the speakers, no video. Laurel
My husband read through the audio info and he thinks that it says that if you have down loaded a DVD on your ipad or ipod, you can play it on your own device while in park with the proper cables hooked up to the C-Max audio system. He couldn't find anything about actually playing a DVD.
Laurel
Forgot to mention that the first sales person we talked also said it would play DVD's. Ford needs provide some education to the dealerships as it is quite off putting to get wrong info.
dtorres
In my experience if you've done modest research into a vehicle you typically know more than the salesman. I don't know why it kills them to just say I'm not sure but if I can get your phone number or email address I'll research it and let you know. That way they get you a correct answer and get your call back info to follow up on your interest in the vehicle. REC
I have the SE version, not SEL, but I think the SEL will play a DVD but through the R/Y/W inputs under the center arm rest (next to the USB inputs). But, you would need the DVD player that can hook up to those R/Y/W inputs.
pixelwiz
I have the C-Max SEL with 303A (Sony MyFord Touch). I was really hoping it would play DVDs or at least allow DVD disks with mp3 files. No such luck, just spits them out. It does however have VGA inputs, so if you plug-in an ipod with VGA wire or something similar it'll play in Park. I wish that would work while driving so passangers could watch a movie on a road trip. How I wish there was a hack for that that didn't cost $350 and required hardware to be installed. dtorres
They have it that way because it's illegal in some states to have a video player that's visible to the driver due to the distraction factor. I did plug an external DVD player into the RCA plugs and it did play on the screen while in park. However it required that you unplug anything plugged into the USB ports first.
