Na Than
My key fob has broken. I tried to use the key blade stored inside the key fob, but there doesn't seem to be anywhere to put the key. there doesn't seem to be an ignition lock anywhere in the car. I have poured over my manual and there isn't any mention as to how to start the car with the key blade. How do you start the 2013 SEL with the key blade? jmckinley
You don't start it with the key, you just push the button on the dash. Metal key just gets you in the door. Why not just push the start button on the dash?
Na Than
Well, the alarm goes off, the dash says no key detected, and the button doesn't work. So is the answer, "You cannot start the C-MAX with the key blade" ?
mtb9153
I'm pretty certain the blade key is only meant to get you inside the car since the SEL model does not have a key switch. If your CMax won't start by pushing the button then you are in a world of hurt, you are going to need a new smart key and that will be pricy. But I'd try first replacing the internal battery first. How you get to it, I'm not certain. This should be covered under your warranty if you are the original owner, even then I think it is transferable to new owners. fbov
Hang on... and welcome to the forum; glad to see someone new knew to come here for help! Owners' Manual, Page 177 (3rd ed.),Starting and Stopping the Engine,Vehicles with Keyless Start,You should find:If you are unable to start your vehicle, do the following:3-button remote1. Hold the key at the backuplocation on the steering column.2. With the key in this position, press the brake pedal, then thebutton to switch the ignition onand start your vehicle. The backup key gets the door open. Inside, there's something called a "backup slot" on the right side of the steering pod, under the windshield wiper stalk. Look for a fob-shaped indentation. I suspect that area has a power transmitter which activates the interface in the keyless fob if the internal battery's too weak to do so. Same technology as RFID. Hope this helps,Frank Edited March 7, 2014 by fbov Laurel and ptjones

ptjones
Sounds like you are going to have to have the dealer fix it if you can't find your spare fob. Let us know how it goes, Good Luck. :) Paul
