scottwood2
Just wonder what everyone has been using to prep the wheels for plasti-dip? Any special cleaners? Car is almost new so it should not be too bad but I don't know what coatings are there from the factory that could be an issue. Thx
vmmvmmm
I would think that if you cleaned them with Dawn dishwashing detergent that should be enough to clear anything that might make the dip peel or run. I've dipped stuff without cleaning it thoroughly and haven't had issues, the stuff is pretty resilient.
Adrian_L
A little wipe down with laquer thinner will take anything off and doesn't leave a residue. How durable is this plasti-dip stuff when confronted with say, curb rash??

How durable is this plasti-dip stuff when confronted with say, curb rash?? I doesn't take much to melt this stuff off your stock or any rims. There is an instructional video on plasti-dips website which shows the best way to touch-up areas which have come in contact with everyday driving and damaged the finish and you don't want to tear it all off and start over. Here is the kit for fixing tears or rips https://www.dipyourcar.com/search.php?mode=search&page=1&keep_https=yes Edited September 19, 2014 by mtb9153 obob

ThxThey sell a pre-dip spray which can be used to prep your wheels for coating with Plasti-dip here is a link... https://www.dipyourcar.com/Pre-dip-spray-catagory/when used I think this stuff smells terrible, but it really works well to prep for painting plasti-dip Edited September 19, 2014 by mtb9153
scottwood2
Thx did the replies. I did want to use the plasti-dip cleaner but I want to do this today and can't find it locally. I did buy degreaser/dewaxer and might use that. I Also have thinner.
