Below is a quote from a cop who posts on Candle Power Forums.  This was from the thread:  Those Horrible and Illegal HID Conversions...Again

anyone can claim to be a cop.  Its easy to be whomever you want behind a screen and a keyboard.  Whether it be a thug cop, troll, ect...

 

Here in Northern VA  we have yearly safety inspections and every two years emission inspections.

 

Not nearly as many what i would consider "ricer" type mods to cars as you may find in other states with no inspections.

 

Which means if a mod is done,  its usually done right so it passes inspection.

 

Around here  I have not seen any HID lights look to be too bright or poorly aligned.  But I do see a lot of the "blue" head light bulbs on older cars.

Pffff hahahaha no cop's touching my ride!  I've read multiple news articles that stated it is nearly impossible for them to write citations for this as they have to break out a bunch of light equipment that shows that the beams are too high, too bright etc. Combined with the number of people running aftermarket headlights (at least in my area around Portland, OR) chances are you wouldn't ever get pulled over.  Unless you're that ricer idiot that puts 15,000k blue HIDs in and aims them up.  Been rolling with HID kits since before people even knew what HIDs were.  Never had an issues or been pulled over for it.  Projector or non projector housing.  Just aim them properly, walk out and look / verify they aren't blinding and you'll be fine.  Just put some LED 6500k 4000Lm bulbs in on my wife's Cmax and they look great.

Wife's car has HID on her new car. They came aimed at the trees. I asked her to complain, and ask to have them aimed. They came back aimed at the ground 20 feet away. Hyundai has a problem with simple stuff. Thankfully, they did a great job designing the adjuster. 

 

Conversely, they're still inferior to the standard C-Max headlight system. Anything work in good weather, nothing has come close to how well our cars' lights work in fog and snow, when good headlights really matter.

I love my NRG Ti, but the headlights aren't impressive. Maybe another avenue for improvement would be a pair of old-style rally lights. I'd like to see two round 6-inch Cibies or Hellas flanking the opening of the main grille. Or even bigger globes, for that Bug-Eyed Sprite look. Hey, our cars came with three grilles- so why not have three pairs of headlights, too? 

 

If this works, please let us know. I know, nobody mods a C-Max, but maybeI can inspire someone to Photoshop it, anyhow.

What would impress you?

 

These are the best headlights I've owned to date. Must be aimed well? They excel when the weather's bad and make driving in a snow storm relaxing; I can see the road. And seeing the road when it's hard to see, is what makes them truly impressive to me. Perhaps we're looking for different things?
