knudlen
Hey all, just bought a 2013 C Max a few days and am so far very happy with it. One thing that I've ran into that I haven't been able to find out anything about online: when I go over bumps or dips at a reasonable speed, I'll occasionally hear a thud coming from the cargo area. At first I thought it was an unsecured item I had put back there, but after some investigation it looks like it might be the pull-away cargo floor rising up and then falling down an inch or so. I guess it's a good thing that the ride is quiet enough that I notice it, but it definitely IS noticeable. It doesn't seem that this "lid" is meant to be secured, but since I bought it used I don't know if this is an issue or not. The lid raises up easily by hand with no resistance, which seems like how it should be but maybe not. Anyone come across this at all? Anyone have a workaround? It seems like it would only be an issue if my cargo area was empty, but since this purchase was done at least in part because of the gas mileage I'd rather not store something in my cargo area just to stop this from rising up over bumps. Also in the same vein of buying this used, my c max did not come with the tire mobility kit under the passenger seat. It doesn't look like it's available for purchase from the ford website; has anyone ever had to replace theirs? Thanks!
obob
You might consider getting a spare tire and jack. There are threads about doing that - going with a reduced or full size tire, in the tires section. Here is one from ebay. Not sure if it is the same one. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Ford-OEM-Temporary-Mobility-Tire-Air-Compressor-Kit-/121789355485?hash=item1c5b3615dd:g:S-UAAOSwFnFWBTU7&vxp=mtr Edited October 17, 2015 by obob djc
knudlen
Thanks obob. Looks like the one you linked might be a different version but there were a few others on ebay that look like a match. Trying to parse through the tires post and figure out if there's any consensus regarding what models are best to poach donuts from. Any thoughts about the cargo noise? Is that cargo floor storage cover supposed to be unsecured? I suppose getting a spare and latching it to the side of the cargo area might fix both the lack of a compressor and the flapping cover at the same time :)
Adrian_L
First of all get yourself a cinder block or a really heavy suitcase and make sure that it is the cover that is bouncing up and down. 3M heavy duty double-sided tape may be the answer--the stuff that's about 1/8" thick. Personally, the only thing I hear going over speedbumps is a slight creak from the shocks or springs.
SnowStorm
Here's a topic on noises both front and rear. We had a thump sound in our 2013 for a while when going over a distinct bump at low speed. It eventually went away. Also check item 3 in the first post of this topic. Here's a topic about the TMK. I too suggest getting a generic can of "goo" and a regular pump and/or a spare. Edited October 18, 2015 by SnowStorm
