i woudl think a small diesel engine and a robust battery back would make for a nice hybrid drive train for a pick up...

instead of a 30gallon fuel tank,   go with a 10-15gallon tank  and use the space for batteries.

Yeah  th 3/4 ton pickup truck   may actually only be able to haul 3/4 of a ton...

but th combination f the batteries and diesel  should be able to put out the the needed torque.

I saw a chevy truck at last years auto show. This company (VIA MOTORS) buys the v6 version of chevy truck. They pull the transmission and replace it with a cvt and electric

motor combo. They add batteries under the bed and use the v6 motor to charge the batteries only. This makes an ev truck with range extender gas motor. They also add

power outlets onto the side of the bed that can run everything from power tools to air compressor. Would be great on my farm. I could work on fences with the power from

the truck. The gas engine would keep the batteries charged while I work. Only available as a fleet vehicle now. Cant wait for someone to make one like it for the rest of us.

One thing that is different now is the cost of the batteries.  The cost has come down faster than expected. I still wonder how well this will catch on for pickups.  I think it might take $4 a gallon gas again for people to bite on this idea.

Gas here is selling for just over $1.50 a gallon now.  I never thought I would see this price again.
