Lost 7 out of 20 Wheel Lug Nuts!

My 2013 C Max  is missing 7 out of the 20 lug nuts it is supposed to have!

I discovered this situation today as I approached my car in a commercial parking lot and just happened to look at one of my wheels and noticed that a lug nut was missing.  Checking further, each of three wheels was missing one nut each and the fourth wheel was missing four of the five nuts.

I have been experiencing dashboard warning lights indicating my traction control and brake assistance were not working.  I took my car into the dealer for service and was told it was safe to drive and that I needed to bring it back when they had the time to do a thorough electronics exam.  Have appointment for tomorrow.  I called dealer back today to inform him of my discovery, which he agreed may be the problem.

Anyone else ever experience anything like this?

I'm confused. When did you take it to the dealer? Did they service the car? Did they LOOK at the wheels? They told you "...it was safe to drive..." after looking at the car? I don't understand the sequence of events.

You want him to install TWENTY locking lug nuts?????????????? :)  :)  :)

Does this mean Tom's wheels have fallen off and can't get back on to reply? :headscratch:

Paul :)

The rest of the story:

The dealer fixed the electrical problems of ABS and TRAC lights being on by repairing the wheel speed sensor harness which had a broken wire.

As for the missing lug nuts, they were replaced at no cost but no guilt admitted.

WOW! I'm not feeling to good about your Dealer. BTW you should replace your lug nuts with solid ones. IMO

To finish the story, my dealer said that the lug nuts on C Max's, and other cars with wheels that don't have hub caps, use decorative lug nuts, lose their shape with wrenching to rotate the tires, etc.  Mine were worn and replaced at my expense.  This is not a safety issue so far so no recalls.  Problem is that after the nuts have become misshapen a regular lug wrench of the proper size no longer works.

Still don't know why I lost some on my car to begin with.  Maybe the deformed lug nut didn't tighten up enough when the tires were changed for rotation -- in which case, if proven, it would be a safety issue it seems to me.
