MSRP, Invoice, Dealers, Salesmen, Internet Pricing . . . Help!
PapaJ replied to Altazi's topic in Buying, Order and Leasing
We bought our C-Max for $800 below invoice, plus tax tag & title -- got $500 off with Ford rebate, another $500 military discount. Dealers make money even if they sell the car for the stated "invoice" price; keep shopping and get quotes from 3 dealers. -
The (valid) point I was making is that drag increaases with speed & these cars get better MPG if you keep it under 70; we took a 60-mile mostly freeway trip today cruising at 69 MPH and got 45 MPG.

Agree with all the above comments. We are averaging right at 41 MPG with our C-Max. We knew when we bought the C-Max that 47/47/47 is unrealistic. This is a heavy 3,600+ pound car with a tall profile and wide 17" wheels (Prius has skinny 15"" wheels). The EPA test regimen uses a "highway" speed of 62 MPH. You engineers out there know that wind resistance increases exponentially from 60 to 70 to 80 MPH, especially running a little 140 HP 4-banger with low torque, so 47 MPG running at 80 MPH just flies in the face of the laws of physics. Hoping the software mods add 1-2 MPG, we'll see.

I bought a Slime SPAIR kit, they work great. You can also use the little compressor to check tire pressure and air up your tires. I hate runflats, we had them on a MINI Cooper "S" and they were noisy and rough.

2013 Ford C-Max vs. 2013 Toyota Prius v Comparison Test

Well it is a far better car than a Prius, we bought a C-Max and would never have been caught dead in a slow, noisy, ugly, Prius. -
2013 Ford C-Max vs. 2013 Toyota Prius v Comparison Test
PapaJ replied to HannahWCU's topic in Articles, News & Reviews
You know what's funny -- here is a technology-rich, quiet & solid 3,600 lb minivan that will scoot 0-60 in under 8 seconds and still returns 40+ miles per gallon -- these are phenomenal metrics yet some people (jealous Prius owners perhaps?) are going out of their way to hate it. Also I happen to think the C-Max is a good-looking ride in its own way. Comments? -
We have had our new C-Max SE for 3 days now. We love the Ford so far, thank goodness we stopped to look at the C-Max before buying a Prius or Lexus CT200H (my original choice.) However the more I read about MFT problems, the more I am grateful we just have the base SYNC system. Hope Ford takes care of you guys with MFT, these kinds of problems are inexcusable. I would have liked to have the better-sounding Sony radio, but the wife is perfectly happy, so I am happy as well.

P.S: The leather seats were installed yesterday and are indistinguishable from the factory leather, looks great.

Thanks for comments; we picked up the SE yesterday. With the 201 package and aftermarket leather seats we paid $26,804 out the door.

Don't waste your money with Premium gas!
PapaJ replied to SnitGTS's topic in Hybrid Driving Tips & Tricks
Pointless to buy a car like a C-Max specifically engineered to burn regular and needlessly waste $.20 - $.30 per gallon buying premium fuel. The idea that you will get more power and/or better mileage using premium -- unless your manual specifices premium -- is an urban myth. I do think there may be some benefit to Top Tier gas in terms of keeping your engine internals clean. Local leather shop in ATL. They actually remove the cloth from the seats and re-do them with leather. Have not seen it yet but the dealer claims it is a near-perfect match for the factory leather.

We are picking up our new C-Max SE Friday. I would be curious to get your reaction to our reasoning for buying the lower-end version of the car instead of the SEL. 1. No MFT -- this car is for my wife and she is not particularly technology-friendly. For us the base Sync system seems to meet our needs and does not "crash", yes? 2. No leather seats -- we are having aftermarket leather seating installed for about $1,000. 3. No sunroof -- we felt we'd rather have a standard roof than a non-opening sunroof; I think Ford kind of blew it with this feature. 4. Cost -- about $26,000 out the door, to me spending more than $30K on this microvan seemed a bit much. Your thoughts?
